The main purpose of this conference is to provide opportunities for graduate students to share their research results with each other, receive scholarly feedback and network professionally. The conference was organized by Khalifa University in 2015, UAE University in 2016, and again by Khalifa University in 2017. The 2018 edition of this event is organized by American University of Sharjah. More information about the UAE GSRC can be obtained at www.uaegsrc.ae. 3 Fourth UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC 2018) Steering Committee Chair Welcome Message On behalf of the Steering Committee of the 2018 UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC), we would like to welcome our guests, speakers and participants to have a fruitful, successful and enjoyable conference. The GSRC is an exciting interdisciplinary academic event to share the graduate level research being conducted at universities across the UAE, in particular, as well as internationally. The main purpose of this conference is to provide opportunities for graduate students to share their research work with each other, receive scholarly feedback and network professionally. The event will also enable graduate students to showcase their innovative scholarship and get feedback on practical aspects that may enhance the value of their research. Prospective graduate students will be able to learn about the various research opportunities available at the participating academic institutions. The success of this conference is attributed to those individuals who have worked hard to ensure smooth operations before and during the event. Hence, we would like to thank the members of the Steering Committee, the Organizing Committee, Technical Program Committee, the reviewers of the papers and session chairs, and the student volunteers helping in organizing the conference. We trust you will professionally benefit from the Conference as well as enjoy it socially. Dr. Arif Al-Hammadi Steering Committee Chair Fourth UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC 2018) 4 Conference Chair Welcome Message On behalf of American University of Sharjah (AUS), I would like to welcome you to the Fourth UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC 2018) held on April 21, 2018 at the beautiful AUS campus. The aim of the conference is to provide graduate students in the United Arab Emirates a venue for presenting their research findings and a forum for networking and intellectual discussions. The conference themes, covering a wide range of topics, are organized in five tracks: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Management, Clinical, Pre-Clinical, Health, Life Sciences, and Engineering, Information Technology and Physical Sciences. The conference has attracted a large number of submissions for a total of 381 papers authored by graduate students, with most universities offering graduate programs in the UAE represented. Faculty members from different universities in the UAE have reviewed the papers and a total of 348 papers have been accepted for presentation at the conference. The papers are organized into 42 oral sessions and three poster sessions during this one-day event. I would like to thank the 841 authors who submitted their work to the conference. Also my thanks go to the keynote speaker for his invaluable contribution to the success of GSRC 2018 and to the organizing committee, technical program committee, session chair, and the 310 reviewers who worked diligently to produce such a rich and well-rounded program. The support of the conference Steering Committee is also appreciated for making this event a success. I would like to acknowledge the great help from the AUS Graduate Student Association, the Office of Graduate Studies, the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing, the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs, and the Office of Student Affairs at the American University of Sharjah. Finally, I would like to recognize the Emirates Scientists Council and the Ministry of Education as the supporting partners of the conference I wish you a successful event and hope you enjoy your day at AUS. Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni GSRC 2018 General Chair 5 Fourth UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC 2018) Technical Program Chair Message As a chair of the Technical Program Committee of the 2018 UAE Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC 18), I welcome you to our beautiful American University of Sharjah campus. Thank you for your participation and contributions to this important graduate student conference. Graduate students are the most essential ingredient in transforming the UAE into a research hub that competes regionally and globally. As such, conferences like this one provide an important platform for young researchers to showcase their work and network. In addition to the outreach aspect of this conference, this events also allows these promising young professionals to work on their oral and written communication skills. The conference comes at a very exciting time for us here at American University of Sharjah. We have received the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS, to start four research institutes in the areas of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Material Science and Engineering, Smart Cities and Gulf Environments. Additionally, our first PhD program in Engineering Systems Management will commence in Fall 2018. We would like to first acknowledge the hard work of the authors who prepared outstanding abstracts. Your hard work is greatly appreciated. To recognize the authors’ exceptional contributions, the conference will handout several awards across all the disciplines. We are equally indebted to the reviewers who spent several hours reviewing the submitted abstracts at such a short notice. Some have reviewed six or more abstracts. Thank you. We are also thankful for the keynote speaker and are eager to hear his advice to our budding UAE researchers. We hope that our attendees will thoroughly enjoy the technical and social aspects of the GSRC 18, and utilize this opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow researchers, mingle with faculty members from across the country, establish new contacts, and augment their network. Enjoy your conference stay at AUS.
