The distribution was analysed from 18 sampling stations alongside the Terengganu waters; including Pulau Bidong, Pulau Yu and Pulau Kapas. Samples were collected from April to July 2016 using 200µm Bongo net; towed vertically from a stationary vessel; and were preserved in a 5% buffered formaldehyde. Five species discovered in this family were identified as new records in Malaysian waters:Doliolum denticulatum Quoy and Gaimard, 1834, Doliolum nationalis Borgert, 1894, Dolioletta gegenbauri Uljanin, 1884, Doliolina mulleri Krohn, 1852 and Dolioloides rarum Grobben, 1882. A comprehensive review of the species description, diagnosis and a key to the phorozooid from the recorded species is herewith provided. We also deliver a detailed map of current and known worldwide occurrence of these five species, and thus consequently update the biodiversity of Malaysian fauna. On Some Pelagic Doliolid Tunicates (Thaliacea, Doliolida) Collected by a Submersible Off the Eastern North American Coast
BULLETIN OF MARINE SCIENCE, 72(3): 589–612, 2003 ON SOME PELAGIC DOLIOLID TUNICATES (THALIACEA, DOLIOLIDA) COLLECTED BY A SUBMERSIBLE OFF THE EASTERN NORTHAMERICAN COAST J. E. A. Godeaux and G. R. Harbison ABSTRACT Specimens of Doliolids collected from a submersible at several stations off the eastern coast of North America were examined. Four species were identified, of which three were described by Godeaux (1996). Of these, one belongs to the new genus, Paradoliopsis (Godeaux, 1996). It is proposed that the order Doliolida be divided into two suborders: the Doliolidina (animals with eight muscle bands), and the Doliopsidina (animals with five muscle bands). Each suborder is represented in our collection by two families. For the Doliolidina these families are the Doliolidae (Doliolinetta intermedia) and the Doliopsoididae (Doliopsoides atlanticum), and for the Doliopsidina the families are the Doliopsidae (Doliopsis bahamensis) and the Paradoliopsidae (Paradoliopsis harbisoni). The family Doliolidae is the best known group of the tunicate order Doliolida. The vertical distribution of members of this family has been well documented with the use of multiple opening and closing nets. The various stages of the complex life cycle of the different species of Doliolidae are located in the epipelagic and mesopelagic layers. They are mainly found at depths between 50–100 m, where they graze on small autotrophic algae (Weikert and Godeaux, unpubl.). Doliolids are so fragile that they are easily dam- aged, making their identification difficult. Identification and determination of the various stages in the life cycle is made even more difficult by the fact that several different spe- cies are often mixed together in a single net collection. -

E-mail: [email protected] / [email protected] Abstract In waters of the Northwestern Atlantic pelagic tunicates may contribute significantly to the plankton biomass; however, the regional information on the salp fauna is scarce and limited to restricted sectors. In the Caribbean Sea (CS) and the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) the composition of the salpid fauna is still poorly known and this group remains among the less studied zooplankton taxa in the Northwestern Tropical Atlantic. A revised checklist of the salp species recorded in the North At- lantic (NA, 0–40° N) is provided herein, including new information from the Western Caribbean. Zooplankton samples were collected during two cruises (March 2006, January 2007) within a depth range of 0–941 m. A total of 14 species were recorded in our samples, including new records for the CS and GOM area (Cyclosalpa bakeri Ritter 1905), for the CS (Cy- closalpa affinis (Chamisso, 1819)), and for the Western Caribbean (Salpa maxima Forskål, 1774). -

Brooksia lacromae sp. nov. is described from zooplankton material collected at a marine monitoring station in the South Adriatic in the autumn of 2014. The described species is morphologically markedly different from B. rostrata (Traustedt, 1893) and B. berneri van Soest, 1975, previously the only two species in the genus Brooksia. Platyhelminthes was represented by 186 species, Chordata by 64 species, Nemertea by 26 species, Nematoda by 20 species, Xenacoelomorpha by 11 species, Chaetognatha by 10 species, Acanthocephala by 9 species, Brachiopoda and Phoronida by 4 species, Myxozoa and Tradigrada by 2 species, and Cephalorhyncha and Echiura by 1 species. Two platyhelminth (Planocera cf. graffi and Prostheceraeus vittatus), 2 nemertean (Drepanogigas albolineatus and Tubulanus superbus), 1 phoronid (Phoronis australis), and 2 ascidian (Polyclinella azemai and Ciona roulei) species are being newly reported for the first time from the coasts of Turkey. Four tunicate (Symplegma brakenhielmi, Microcosmus exasperatus, Herdmania momus, and Phallusia nigra) and 1 chaetognath (Ferosagitta galerita) species were classified as alien species in the region.
