Grill safety... Outdoor grills, smokers, and fire pits are popular ways of cooking but can be a fire hazard when used improperly or too close to things that can burn.

Follow these tips for safer grilling:  Grills, smokers, and fire pits should only be used outdoors and not within 10 feet of combustible materials, including wood decks, awnings, and your home.  Do not use grills on an apartment balcony or near open windows.  Never leave your grill unattended while it is hot.  Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.  Soak used charcoal briquettes in water after use.  Keep lighter fluid away from children and heat sources. For more information, contact the City Fire Marshal's Office at (281) 996-3335 or [email protected]
