VARSITY CENTRE & GOLDRING CENTRE FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORTS

Part of the 2016 CFL Combine will once again take place at Varsity Centre. And for the first time in CFL Combine history, participants will also be tested at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sports. Both venues are located on the University of Toronto campus in downtown Toronto.

Varsity Centre, a state-of-the-art facility at the southeast corner of Bloor Street and Devonshire Place, includes a new 5,000-seat stadium, artificial turf field, air-supported dome for winter use and a 400m eight-lane international class track. It is the new home to Blues track and field, football and soccer programs.

The facility sits on the former site of historic , one-time home to the Varsity Blues and Toronto Argonauts. The famous bowl was home to 30 Grey Cups and 21 Vanier Cups. It was more than a football venue, however, as it housed world-class soccer (including Manchester United, Pelé and the 1976 Olympic soccer semi- finals), rock ‘n’ roll legends (including the Doors, Alice Cooper, Bo Diddley and John Lennon) and leading world figures (Mother Teresa and Pierre Elliott Trudeau).

But Varsity Stadium is remembered first and foremost for its football. It was home to the first dynasty in history, as the University of Toronto won the trophy the first three years of its existence. The school won a total of four Grey Cup titles to go along with 26 Yates Cups and two Vanier Cups.

Varsity Stadium was also home to 10 Grey Cup champion Argonauts teams, including one of the greatest dynasties of all-time. Between the years 1945 and 1952, the Boatmen won the title five times.

As host to 30 Grey Cup finals between the years 1911 and 1957, Varsity Stadium was centre stage for many of Canadian football’s greatest moments with lead actors like Red Storey, , Smirle Lawson and .

The CFL legends of tomorrow are set to begin their professional journey on hallowed ground.
