THE STYRENE SHEET VOL. 43, No.10 WWW.SVSM.ORG October 2009 A Publication of the Silicon Valley Scale Modelers, A chartered Chapter of International Plastic Modeler’s Society, USA branch. Editor’s Ravings – this month’s editor, Mick Burton Scary is as scary does. How eerily coincident that the latest issue of the IPMS/USA Journal showed up this week in my home mail, with lead editorial by Styrene Sheet Alumnus Chris Bucholtz including material which now informs my own effort here! Chris reflects on reasons not entirely obvious to many looking solely on as consumers of the Journal, as to why coverage of the recent USA Nationals in Columbus was not the main thrust of this Journal issue which does follow about two months after event occurred. Time and energy management dealing with the sheer volume of finished yet actually raw material. With a desire to produce a product of coverage at least equal in quality to that of the items in focus (namely the very lovely works in miniature and competition) Being delivered by folks who have far too much going on in their lives yet do this work too. Having been one of the crew members in the Judging and the Photography teams thus a witness to the truly monumental shoe horning of much quality effort into a tiny amount of time to deliver results, I know first hand what he was writing about. This month’s Sheet was on my responsibility roster when I left for Columbus. Seemed at the time a far away and far easier effort than it ended up, a reminder of how quickly many ever so small projects can suddenly add up to massive time/energy monsters hungry for more of both when you no longer have a bit of either to spare.

  • Verizon Channel Lineup Custom Tv
Verizon channel lineup custom tv Continue By the mid-1960s, the participants in the traditional street scene had broken away in many directions. Some custom enthusiasts have switched to muscle cars and drag racing. Two original custom car architects, George Barris and Dean Jeffries, have been dragged into the World of Hollywood to create custom cars for television. When 20th Century-Fox and Batman producer William Dozier needed a Batmobile in 1965 (the pilot episode was supposed to premiere on ABC in January 1966), his first call went to Jeffreys, who began working on the 1959 caddy. Jeffries had to bow when he realized he couldn't meet Dozier's three-week term. Advertising custom car image Gallery Barris subsequently took the job, probably because he already owned the 1955 Lincoln Futura, a bubble-canopy concept car that Barris saved from a Ford crusher a few years ago by handing over one dollar. With a suitably low, wide chassis, as well as burning fins, a wide-mouthed grille, and a swoopy body line already in place, Futura was the Platform Barris needed to quickly deliver an outlandish, photogenic TV custom car that lived up to the manufacturer's expectations. Inside, the Futura Dash has been modified only slightly to accommodate prop gadgets such as Bat Phone, Discover-a-Scope, and Extraordinary Bat-Turn Lever. Claims about the number of Barris Batmobiles vary. Barris' crew pulled fiberglass molds from the original car to make duplicates for car show tours. Chances are four or five were made, including a drag-race race exhibition car.

  • Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index
Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Featured vehicle year, make, model, & engine and/or engine displacement where available or where space allowed. Vehicle owner name, city and state. Where the country is other than the United States, I listed the country Product manufacturer name, city and state. Address may be included if space allowed. The month and page number of each feature article or photograph. The index is sorted by year, and a title at the top of each page indicates which year.

  • The SHELBY AMERICAN Fall 2013 60 PHIL REMINGTON
DON McCAIN. 12/20/2012. Don went to work at Shelby American in 1964 as one of their regional sales managers for the new GT350 that was being produced. He was assigned the west coast of the U.S. He was also an avid drag racer and after seeing the Dragonsnake Cobra that was created by some of the guys in the Cobra production shop, he was able to get the ear of Shelby American’s director of public relations, Max Muhleman. In April they put together a formal proposal and walked it upstairs. The idea was kicked around and finally approved in July. Shelby American supplied a car to McCain who prepared it on his own time. He promoted a set of drag slicks from Goodyear and got technical help from famed drag racer Les Ritchey. The first car was sold a few days after Mc - Cain finished testing it—and setting the B/Sp record at Lions Drag Strip. He subsequently sold three more 1965 drag cars (and four 1966 models). One of the 1965 cars was purchased by Mel Burns Ford in Long Beach and McCain drove it for two years. He went to work at Mel Burns as performance sales manager and in an attempt to add Mel Burns to the list of dealers building super performance cars of their own, came up with the 1967 GT500 “Super Snake.” Using a lightweight GT40 MK II engine with aluminum heads, a 780 Holley, oil cooler, unique bundle-of-snakes headers and all of the go-fast equipment that could be added, the sticker price was calcu - lated to be around $7,500—more than a new 427 Cobra road - ster.
