THE STYRENE SHEET VOL. 43, No.10 WWW.SVSM.ORG October 2009 A Publication of the Silicon Valley Scale Modelers, A chartered Chapter of International Plastic Modeler’s Society, USA branch. Editor’s Ravings – this month’s editor, Mick Burton Scary is as scary does. How eerily coincident that the latest issue of the IPMS/USA Journal showed up this week in my home mail, with lead editorial by Styrene Sheet Alumnus Chris Bucholtz including material which now informs my own effort here! Chris reflects on reasons not entirely obvious to many looking solely on as consumers of the Journal, as to why coverage of the recent USA Nationals in Columbus was not the main thrust of this Journal issue which does follow about two months after event occurred. Time and energy management dealing with the sheer volume of finished yet actually raw material. With a desire to produce a product of coverage at least equal in quality to that of the items in focus (namely the very lovely works in miniature and competition) Being delivered by folks who have far too much going on in their lives yet do this work too. Having been one of the crew members in the Judging and the Photography teams thus a witness to the truly monumental shoe horning of much quality effort into a tiny amount of time to deliver results, I know first hand what he was writing about. This month’s Sheet was on my responsibility roster when I left for Columbus. Seemed at the time a far away and far easier effort than it ended up, a reminder of how quickly many ever so small projects can suddenly add up to massive time/energy monsters hungry for more of both when you no longer have a bit of either to spare.

  • Verizon Channel Lineup Custom Tv
Verizon channel lineup custom tv Continue By the mid-1960s, the participants in the traditional street scene had broken away in many directions. Some custom enthusiasts have switched to muscle cars and drag racing. Two original custom car architects, George Barris and Dean Jeffries, have been dragged into the World of Hollywood to create custom cars for television. When 20th Century-Fox and Batman producer William Dozier needed a Batmobile in 1965 (the pilot episode was supposed to premiere on ABC in January 1966), his first call went to Jeffreys, who began working on the 1959 caddy. Jeffries had to bow when he realized he couldn't meet Dozier's three-week term. Advertising custom car image Gallery Barris subsequently took the job, probably because he already owned the 1955 Lincoln Futura, a bubble-canopy concept car that Barris saved from a Ford crusher a few years ago by handing over one dollar. With a suitably low, wide chassis, as well as burning fins, a wide-mouthed grille, and a swoopy body line already in place, Futura was the Platform Barris needed to quickly deliver an outlandish, photogenic TV custom car that lived up to the manufacturer's expectations. Inside, the Futura Dash has been modified only slightly to accommodate prop gadgets such as Bat Phone, Discover-a-Scope, and Extraordinary Bat-Turn Lever. Claims about the number of Barris Batmobiles vary. Barris' crew pulled fiberglass molds from the original car to make duplicates for car show tours. Chances are four or five were made, including a drag-race race exhibition car.

In concept, this book started life as a Provenance. As such, it set about to verify the date, location and driver history of the sixth Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa produced, serial number 0718. Many an automotive author has generously given of his time and ink to write about the many limited series competition cars to come from Maranello individually and as a whole. The 250 TR has been often and lovingly included. Much has been scholastic in its veracity, some, adding myth to the legend. After a year's investigation on 0718, and many more on Ferrari's operation, the author has here constructed a family photo album, with interwoven narrative. The narrative is the story that came forward from the author's investigation and richly illustrative interviews conducted into 0718 specifically. To provide a deeper insight into the 250 TR itself we delve into the engineering transformation within Maranello that resulted in the resurrection of the competition V-12 engine, the unique (to the firm at that point) chassis it was placed in, and a body design that gave visual signature to this 1958 customer sports racer. From these elements was composed the publication you now hold. It is the Provenance of a Ferrari, that became the telling of a fifty-year-old mystery, red herrings and all. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. • Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index
Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Featured vehicle year, make, model, & engine and/or engine displacement where available or where space allowed. Vehicle owner name, city and state. Where the country is other than the United States, I listed the country Product manufacturer name, city and state. Address may be included if space allowed. The month and page number of each feature article or photograph. The index is sorted by year, and a title at the top of each page indicates which year.

  • History of F1 – 1960S
History of F1 – 1960s Welcome to Sidepodcast’s History of F1. The last episode focused on the early years of the World Championship, and the emergence of some new champions. Now we’re going to have a look at the 1960s, a decade that began to see the drivers taking attention away from the cars. The 1960s in Formula 1 saw great changes afoot, both in developmental technologies and the teams that gained the benefits from them. Team Lotus was the dominating force of the decade, and Jim Clark was the driver of the early 1960s who really could get the most out of the car. Lotus were the first team to demonstrate the monocoque, which is the idea of the car being made up of one singular chassis, with the driver perched in the middle. When rear engines made their debut in the 60s, it was clear that F1 was a step ahead of other motorsports. Jim Clark was not short on controversy, being involved in a fatal accident at Monza in 1961, that claimed the life of Wolfgang von Trips. The championship was handed to American Phil Hill, who was racing in the Ferrari. In 1962, Clark instigated a fierce battle with Graham Hill, but he eventually lost the championship, just barely, due to an oil leak early exit from the lead of the final race. Clark won the championship in 1963 and 1965, after taking maximum points throughout the championship for both season. He would quite often take the entire month of May off, and therefore miss the Monaco Grand Prix, preferring to head to the States and compete in the Indy 500.

  • Stirling Moss at Waterford Hills 1961 by Clark Lance
Stirling Moss at Waterford Hills 1961 By Clark Lance For Detroit-area racing fans in the early 1960s the opportunities for seeing a real Grand Prix champion were just about non-existent. The pages of Motorsport and Road & Track were the only connection we had with the exotic world of European Formula 1 racing. The likes of Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, Wolfgang Von Trips, Jim Clark and Stirling Moss were heroes from another world. That was until the Detroit Council of Sports Car Clubs sponsored a speaking engagement for Stirling Moss at the Masonic Temple on October 1, 1961. For $2 no less ! Stirling was in the USA for the October 8 th USGP at Watkins Glen where he would drive a Lotus Eighteen. This would be Stirling’s last World Championship Grand Prix, as he would retire from racing after his April 1962 crash at Goodwood. October 1 st was Sunday of the final race weekend for the Oakland County Sportsman’s Road Racing Club at the 1.5-mile Waterford Hills racetrack just north of Detroit, Michigan. Stirling was at the track during the day, prior to his evening lecture. Stirling spoke to those present in the paddock, signed autographs and took some chauffer-driven laps in a Chrysler 300 to be introduced to the crowd of appreciative spectators. Photos from Waterford Hills Silver Anniversary Digest 1983 It wasn’t long before Stirling spotted a light blue Lotus Elite in the paddock and before you knew it he had the keys and was off for some real demonstration laps in the Elite.
