Verizon Channel Lineup Custom Tv Verizon channel lineup custom tv Continue By the mid-1960s, the participants in the traditional street scene had broken away in many directions. Some custom enthusiasts have switched to muscle cars and drag racing. Two original custom car architects, George Barris and Dean Jeffries, have been dragged into the World of Hollywood to create custom cars for television. When 20th Century-Fox and Batman producer William Dozier needed a Batmobile in 1965 (the pilot episode was supposed to premiere on ABC in January 1966), his first call went to Jeffreys, who began working on the 1959 caddy. Jeffries had to bow when he realized he couldn't meet Dozier's three-week term. Advertising custom car image Gallery Barris subsequently took the job, probably because he already owned the 1955 Lincoln Futura, a bubble-canopy concept car that Barris saved from a Ford crusher a few years ago by handing over one dollar. With a suitably low, wide chassis, as well as burning fins, a wide-mouthed grille, and a swoopy body line already in place, Futura was the Platform Barris needed to quickly deliver an outlandish, photogenic TV custom car that lived up to the manufacturer's expectations. Inside, the Futura Dash has been modified only slightly to accommodate prop gadgets such as Bat Phone, Discover-a-Scope, and Extraordinary Bat-Turn Lever. Claims about the number of Barris Batmobiles vary. Barris' crew pulled fiberglass molds from the original car to make duplicates for car show tours. Chances are four or five were made, including a drag-race race exhibition car. When William Dozier was preparing another superhero show, The Green Hornet, to launch ABC in September 1966, he returned to Jeffreys, who is now free to deal with another three-week schedule. Jeffreys-style Hornet in intimidating, gadget-packed Black Beauty cruiser from 1966 Imperial Crown hardtop sedan. He removed bumpers and other chromes, including door handles and side mirrors, and added a modified, angular nose and boxed aluminum grille. Fancy accessories included rotating license plates, green headlights, a hidden clothing closet, a back seat gun storage, and a pop-up spy scanner in the deck. The dash included a hidden phone and other devices. Shares of Imperial 440-cid V-8 and transmission remained intact. Jeffreys has built two black beauties, with the car #2 (designed for promotional duties) completed on schedule just three weeks after #1. The #1 version was a regular on the show, while the promo car appeared in only one episode, Corpse of the Year, when Hornet races after the impostor. Another show that debuted in September 1966, NBC's Monkees, brought more work for Jefferies: Pontiac GTO-based Monkeemobile. While fondly recalled by the custom car, Monkeemobile delighted Pontiac, who hoped for a marketing surge with a modestly tuned, instantly instantly Goat ragtop. Pontiac even provided a shop with conceptual drawings of a hunky, square-fendered custom that was clearly GTO. But Jeffries was not responsible to Pontiac, but to producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider, so he went his own way and changed the proportions of the conceptual sketch to more outlandish sizes. Ahead, a custom car declared itself with a shark-like nose and a repositioned GTO grille sunk between the sharp spear front wings; the GTO grille icon remained. The trunk was removed and the interior was extended in the trunk to include the third row of seats. The windshield was angled upwards to suit a 1920s touring car-style convertible top. The reserve 389-seat V-8 was equipped with a supercharger and the rear a cent was a solid setup so Monkeemobile would be able to pop wheelies. The car was too powerful and unmanageable, so the blower was replaced by a light fake, which hid the carb. As with Black Beauty, two Monkeemobiles were made, one for practical use and the other for promotion. According to Jeffries, both custom cars were built within a month. These TV custom cars have been a boon to ratings and have also pulled in huge crowds at custom car shows. Soon, even more exaggerated, cartoon rods and customs were built exclusively for the show circuit, without the pretense of street control. While TV custom cars and show rods were popular with the public, they stole the spotlight from traditional street customs, pushing them further into obscurity. • Jessica Lange Regis Dialogue Formatted
Jessica Lange Regis Dialogue with Molly Haskell, 1997 Bruce Jenkins: Let me say that these dialogues have for the better part of this decade focused on that part of cinema devoted to narrative or dramatic filmmaking, and we've had evenings with actors, directors, cinematographers, and I would say really especially with those performers that we identify with the cutting edge of narrative filmmaking. In describing tonight's guest, Molly Haskell spoke of a creative artist who not only did a sizeable number of important projects but more importantly, did the projects that she herself wanted to see made. The same I think can be said about Molly Haskell. She began in the 1960s working in New York for the French Film Office at that point where the French New Wave needed a promoter and a writer and a translator. She eventually wrote the landmark book From Reverence to Rape on women in cinema from 1973 and republished in 1987, and did sizable stints as the film reviewer for Vogue magazine, The Village Voice, New York magazine, New York Observer, and more recently, for On the Issues. Her most recent book, Holding My Own in No Man's Land, contains her last two decades' worth of writing. I'm please to say it's in the Walker bookstore, as well. Our other guest tonight needs no introduction here in the Twin Cities nor in Cloquet, Minnesota, nor would I say anyplace in the world that motion pictures are watched and cherished. She's an internationally recognized star, but she's really a unique star.

Editor’s Ravings – this month’s editor, Mick Burton Scary is as scary does. How eerily coincident that the latest issue of the IPMS/USA Journal showed up this week in my home mail, with lead editorial by Styrene Sheet Alumnus Chris Bucholtz including material which now informs my own effort here! Chris reflects on reasons not entirely obvious to many looking solely on as consumers of the Journal, as to why coverage of the recent USA Nationals in Columbus was not the main thrust of this Journal issue which does follow about two months after event occurred. Time and energy management dealing with the sheer volume of finished yet actually raw material. With a desire to produce a product of coverage at least equal in quality to that of the items in focus (namely the very lovely works in miniature and competition) Being delivered by folks who have far too much going on in their lives yet do this work too. Having been one of the crew members in the Judging and the Photography teams thus a witness to the truly monumental shoe horning of much quality effort into a tiny amount of time to deliver results, I know first hand what he was writing about. This month’s Sheet was on my responsibility roster when I left for Columbus. Seemed at the time a far away and far easier effort than it ended up, a reminder of how quickly many ever so small projects can suddenly add up to massive time/energy monsters hungry for more of both when you no longer have a bit of either to spare.
