Go out of the station, cross Drayton Bridge Road by the zebra crossing next to Cavendish Avenue, and take the narrow, fenced, metalled footpath running north. This goes uphill to pass a small nature area - Copley Wood - then downhill to Hathaway Gardens. Castlebar Park station is just to the left. Here, continue on the Cheyney path between Castlebar & Hathaway schools, and go round the corner to your left past the sports club fields, with the railway embankment on your left. The multi-storey flats at Gurnell Grove come into view ahead. Cross several small roads on the estate to reach the Ruislip Road – Gurnell Swimming Pool is across the road to the right. Cross the road at the crossing near the swimming pool and turn left. Just before the railway bridge go right on a wide path over a bridge – River Brent – and along an avenue of trees to reach the end of Stockdove Way. Turn left under the railway bridge to enter Perivale Park. Just ahead across the small car park is the golf course pavilion – toilets/refreshments. Take the path on the right marked ‘South Greenford station’ and follow it round a hedge/fence of sports fields. The path meets a small car park just before the A40 (For South Greenford station walk across the car park to the A40 and go right – access the station from next to the bridge). To continue the walk follow the path inside the park past the sports pitches. The clock tower of the Hanwell Community Centre (once known as the Cuckoo School and briefly attended by Charlie Chaplin) comes into view on the horizon on the left. At the next park entrance, follow the main path round to the left towards the clock tower, bearing right at the golf course, to emerge on Costons Lane. Turn left to reach the Ruislip Road by the bridge over the River Brent (Greenford’s shops, cafes, buses, etc, are just to the right). Turn left over the bridge and walk along Ruislip Road to a light controlled crossing. Cross and on the other side go down a fenced path between sports fields. When the metalled path turns left, continue straight on along a stony/grassy path soon passing a school and emerging on Bridge Avenue. Keep going and where the road goes left – Studland Road – continue on a wide footpath between golf courses and gradually going uphill to emerge on Church Road. Here, turn right as far as a car park and St. Mary’s Church, to enter Brent Lodge Park (the ‘Bunny’ park) with its Animal Centre. Walk past the old stable building, café, toilets, play area, animal centre, and a maze – all worth spending some time here. Continue on the path to leave through a gate by the River Brent. From along this path stop and admire the Wharncliffe Viaduct built by Brunel for the Great Western Railway in 1844. Follow the path as it heads uphill to join the main path across Churchfields near a play area. Turn right for the end of Manor Court Road by some small public gardens. Walk up Manor Court Road to a junction of roads divided by grassy islands. Cross Church Road and continue on along Cuckoo Lane to reach Greenford Avenue (shops, cafes, etc, and the E1 bus to Ealing Broadway or Greenford). For Drayton Green station cross the road and walk along Drayton Bridge Road. The station is on the right. .
