Neighbourhood Governance Note of Ealing Broadway Ward Forum Meeting ______________________________________________________________________________________ Ealing Broadway Ward Forum meeting – held at 8pm until 9.30pm on Wednesday 8 October 2008 in the hall of St Stephen’s Church Centre, W5. Present: Councillors Young (Chairman), Potts and Scott Attendees: over 83 people attended with 65 people signing the attendance sheet. Note taker: Evelyn Gloyn (EG) - Neighbourhood Co-ordinator South Item Notes Actions/Information 1/2 Chairman’s Introduction and the Role of the Ward Forums People were offered light refreshments as they arrived and the meeting started promptly at 8 pm in the hall of St Stephen’s Church Centre. Councillor Anthony Young (Chairman) opened the meeting with introductions and explained the purpose of ward forums; the old area committees had been reviewed and were not effective as few attended. Ward forums were proposed in their place. Their purpose is so people could find out more about what is happening in their local and their concerns about the local (ward) area could be raised; and they could also discuss how they would like to spend £40,000 within the ward on capital projects. It is bounded to the west by Black Park Road, Fulmer Common Road, Windmill Road and Fulmer Road, to the south by the A412, to the east by the M25 and to the north by the M40. Parts of the parcel’s eastern and south-eastern boundaries directly adjoin Iver Heath. Purpose 1.1 To advise the Committee of developments relating to Milton Keynes’ rail services. 2. Summary 2.1 West Coast Main Line Modernisation and Upgrade is now in the active planning stage. It will result in faster and more frequent train services between Milton Keynes Central and London, and between Milton Keynes Central and points north. Bletchley and Wolverton will also have improved services to London. 2.2 Funding for East-West Rail is now being sought from the Shadow Strategic Rail Authority (SSRA) for the western end of the line (Oxford-Bedford). Though the SSRA have permitted a bid only for a 60 m.p.h. single-track railway, excluding the Aylesbury branch and upgrade of the Marston Vale (Bedford-Bletchley) line, other Railtrack investment and possible developer contributions (yet to be investigated) may allow these elements to be included, as well as perhaps a 90 m.p.h. double- track railway. As this part of East-West Rail already exists, no form of planning permission is required; however, Transport and Works Act procedures are to be started to build the missing parts of the eastern end of the line. 2.3 New trains were introduced on the Marston Vale line, Autumn 1999. A study of the passenger accessibility of Marston Vale stations identified various desirable improvements, for which a contribution of £10,000 is required from this Council. -
