The wide range of vehicle antennas – body mounts, magnetic mounts, glass mounts and in-car antennas will satisfy every demand in the market. Telematics Smarteq telematic solution – SmarTraq – is now ready. SmarTraq telematic unit can be used in most existing environments in vehicles for all kinds of applications. Original Equipment Manufacturing Smarteq develops solutions for Original Equipment Manufacturing for some of the world’s best-known brand names. Smarteq delivers vehicle antennas, special antennas, and hands free car kits accordingly to OEM specifi cations. 2 Automotive Smarteq has delivered vehicle antennas to the automotive industry for many years and is continuously in projects together with the automobile manufacturers to provide the most advanced antenna solutions to be installed in new car models. What is the difference between good and bad antennas? When you want to mount an antenna on your vehicle, it should meet certain criteria. It should have a lifespan that matches the vehicle’s, and therefore it should withstand all types of climate conditions, road salt in the winter and strong sunlight (temperature ranging from -30° to +40°). At Smarteq, we separate mechanical and electrical characteristics. The electrical tests are as follows: ■ Radiation pattern; This shows how the energy spreads from the antenna. The most important aspect is that the energy reaches the base station and that it radiates in the correct direction (horizontal) ■ Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR); a value certifying how well an antenna performs. If you have a high standing wave ratio it means that certain amounts of energy will bounce back into the telephone and you will experience a signal loss, causing poorer conversation quality ■ Antenna amplification (gain). Measured in decibel (dB) The mechanical tests are as follows: ■ Salt/air corrosion ■ UV-rays ■ Temperature shock ■ Hot/cold ■ Vibration TEMS – Test Mobile System Our antennas are not only tested mechanically and electrically. They are also tested in real situations, systemwise. By testing the antenna on a test route, we receive a very good picture of how the telephone acts and is interpreted by the system. For instance, due to car models having different design and form, we can use the TEMS to evaluate benefitial antenna position. Strictly speaking, this is the best way to verify a peak performing vehicle antenna. There are also a number of technical advantages with the TEMS equipment. The dynamic market of Mobile devices introduces a lot of variability with respect to capabilities like screen-size, operating system, network support and many others. The combination of these two areas into one application makes maintainability both very important and difficult. In this thesis the primary focus will be on the possibility of increasing the maintainability of such an application through model-driven development. The following issues and solutions will be addressed. The possibility of refining a software design through a Model Driven Architecture (MDA) approach in which high-level business models are mapped to platform specific models in a multi-tiered architecture. The applicability in a model- driven development of decoupling mechanisms used by design patterns like Model View Controller (MVC) or Presentation Abstraction Control (PAC) and the possibility of using a run-time thin client approach called Wireless Universal Resource File (WURFL) for supporting the differences between the many different mobile devices.

Today, the old model — in which basic research ultimately led to industrial implementa- tion via a large number of development stages in various organizations — is con- sidered far too time-consuming. This outmoded production-line principle needs to be replaced with dynamic innovation networks that integrate publicly financed basic research, application development and product transfer in so-called Centers of Excellence. It’s also a fact that specialized cen- INDUSTRY O Digital Factories Streamlining Research ters work faster and are therefore Scenario 2010: The Magic of Virtuality 6 more successful in the competitive Digital Production: Factory in a Computer 9 in Dynamic world of research.
