Andronovo Problem: Studies of Cultural Genesis in the Eurasian Bronze Age
Open Archaeology 2021; 7: 3–36 Review Stanislav Grigoriev* Andronovo Problem: Studies of Cultural Genesis in the Eurasian Bronze Age https://doi.org/10.1515/opar-2020-0123 received June 8, 2020; accepted November 28, 2020. Abstract: Andronovo culture is the largest Eurasian formation in the Bronze Age, and it had a significant impact on neighboring regions. It is the important culture for understanding many historical processes, in particular, the origins and migration of Indo-Europeans. However, in most works there is a very simplified understanding of the scientific problems associated with this culture. The history of its study is full of opposing opinions, and all these opinions were based on reliable grounds. For a long time, the existence of the Andronovo problem was caused by the fact that researchers supposed they might explain general processes by local situations. In fact, the term “Andronovo culture” is incorrect. Another term “Andronovo cultural-historical commonality” also has no signs of scientific terminology. Under these terms a large number of cultures are combined, many of which were not related to each other. In the most simplified form, they can be combined into two blocks that existed during the Bronze Age: the steppe (Sintashta, Petrovka, Alakul, Sargari) and the forest-steppe (Fyodorovka, Cherkaskul, Mezhovka). Often these cultures are placed in vertical lines with genetic continuity. However, the problems of their chronology and interaction are very complicated. By Andronovo cultures we may understand only Fyodorovka and Alakul cultures (except for its early stage); however, it is better to avoid the use of this term. Keywords: Andronovo culture, history of study, Eurasia 1 Introduction The Andronovo culture of the Bronze Age is the largest archaeological formation in the world, except for the cultures of the Scytho-Sarmatian world of the Early Iron Age. -

The aim of the research is to carry out field and office work on conducting a sub-satellite survey on test sites of the Kostanay region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Grain-sowing districts of the Kostanay region were selected as the objects of examination: Karabalyk, Fedorov, Mendykara, Uzunkol, Sarykol, Altynsarin, Kostanay, Denisov, Karasu, Taranov, Zhitikara, Auliekol, Kamysty, Naurzum. The determination of the reserves of productive soil moisture in the 0-100 cm layer by control points (100 points) carried out in the pre-sowing season of 2019 showed that the soils are characterized by satisfactory and, for the most part, insufficient moisture. The fields fixed in the coordinate system were evaluated by five indicators - pH, humus, nitrate nitrogen (N-NO3), mobile phosphorus (P2O5), and exchange potassium (K2O). Most of the soils examined had a soil solution reaction that was neutral or close to neutral. In terms of humus content, soils of the Karabalyk, Fedorov, Uzunkol and Sarykol districts had an average degree of availability, which exceeded the indicators of other districts of the Kostanai region and depended on the type of soil. -

Since 2016, commercial farms in the Northern Region of Kazakhstan have been working on accumulation cross-breeding of low productive and outbred breeding stock with purebred servicing bulls of Kazakh White-Head, Hereford, Auliekol and Aberdeen-Angus breeds. By 2018, as a result of accumulation cross-breeding, local offspring of calves of the 2nd generation of the Aberdeen-Angus breed was obtained in the Stan farm, Kazakh White-Head breed in the Saltanat farm, Hereford breed in the Tishkov O.V. farm and Auliekol breed in the Beyssen farm. The data on the live weight obtained in the process of studying the growth and development of crossbred bulls in different age periods indicate that the crossbred bulls of the 2nd generation of the Kazakh White-Head, Hereford and Auliekol breeds at the age of 6 and 8 months were inferior to the standard of the 1st class breed. -

Constraints to SME Growth in Kazakhstan and How to Overcome Them
INSIGHT Constraints to SME Growth in Kazakhstan and How to Overcome Them Small and medium-sized enterprises lack access to financing and market opportunities. Photo credit: ADB. A study of Kostanay region provides insights into developing sustainable businesses in the country. Published: 28 May 2020 Introduction Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the economic backbone of many countries. They support the economy by creating jobs and by producing goods and providing services. In Kazakhstan, however, the SME sector is relatively small and has yet to reach its potential as a building block for private sector development and economic growth. A study conducted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of SMEs in Kostanay region in the northern part of the country provides insights into the challenges faced by these enterprises and what they need to grow. The study is part of the support provided by ADB to the Akimat of Kostanay (regional authority) for the development of SMEs. Kostanay region is a scaled-down version of Kazakhstan with mining and agriculture dominating the regional economy and with its northern areas relatively urbanized (Rudniy, Lisakovsk, Kostanay, and Zhetykara) and a low population density in the south. Like in other regions with monotowns (single- industry towns), the dependence of urban settlements on large enterprises affects employment and the economic well-being of these towns. A principal example is the mining town of Arkalyk and to a lesser extent, Zhetykara and Lisakovsk. The findings of the study therefore may be applied to other regions in the country or even used to develop initiatives on the national level. -

In his speech at the World Summit for Sustainable Development, the President of Kazakhstan reminded the world community of the global scale of the processes that are underway, and called for prevention of irreversible harm to the environment in order to preserve the necessary life resources for our descendants. Environmental safety and sustainable development issues are of vital importance for Kazakhstan. Water resource deficit and significant land degradation, the Aral Sea disaster, the aftermath of the nuclear tests, accumulation of industrial waste, oil spills – all these problems are no longer fall under the category of environmental ones. Many of these problems are regional and even global. Coordinated interaction between the mankind and the environment and ensuring a safe environment are one of the priorities of the long-term Kazakhstan-2030 Strategy. It has clear-cut provisions: “...increase efforts in making our citizens healthy during their life time, and enjoying a healthy environment”. -
