This Act may be called the Kashmir and Jarrnmu Short Title Universities Act, 1969. In Lhis Act and in all Statutes made hereunder, uLnless there is anything repugnant in the subject or conteNt: - Definitions a. "Academic Council' means the Academic Council of the University; o b. "affiliated college' means an institution imparting instruction upto the Bachelor,s degree excluding integrated Honours, post-griduate professional degree courses recognized by "rrJthe University concerned in accordance with. the provisions of this Act and the Statutes; c. "College" means an institution maintainerd or admitted to its privileges by the Univ,ersity concerned and includes a constituent college; d. "constituent college" means an institution recognized as such by the Syndicate ot: the University concerned in accordance with the provisions of this Act and Statutes: UniversityCalendar 20i0, Vol.I Act

e. "Facultiesn, "Boards of Studies', "Board. of Inspection" and "Boards of Research Studies" 'Boards ,Boanld mean the Faculties', of Studies', of 'Boards Inspections' and of Research Studies' of a University;

"Head of the department, means the Head of a University teaching Department who has the statu$ of a Professor or a Reader in the University and where any University has no teaching department in a subject, the senior ,rrost Profegsor in that subject in an affiliated or a constirtuent college; o b' "Principal" means the head of a college; h. "Statutes? and "Regulations" means respectl.vely the Statutes and Regulations of a Universitv madL or continued under this Act; "Syndicate" means the Syndicate of a University; "teacher' means a person giving instructionsi on behalf of a University, in the teaching department of a Universit5r, constituent or affiliated college, and includes a Principal professor, Reader, Lecturer, Demonstrator, Director of physlical Education, Director of the Bureau of Educational and Vocational Guidance and a teacher of Teachers'Training College, and such member of staff of a University Library as the Syndicate of a University may declare to be a teacher; k. "University" means the UniversiW of Kashmir or the University of Jammu, as the clse may be; l. "Universit5z Council" means the Universitv Council of a UniversitSr. There shall be two Universities in the State, one Universities in the and the other in the , each having Jurisdic,tion extending to its respective Division of the territories of the State.
