AWARDS, BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS Awards, bursaries and scholarships are available to students attending post-secondary programs throughout Ontario. AWARDS: An award is a gift which can be a sum of money or citation which is given to a student to recognize achievement in some capacity as established by the donor. BURSARIES: A bursary is a monetary or equivalent award granted to a student or potential student to enable that person to continue studies. It is based primarily on financial need, but achievement is also considered. SCHOLARSHIPS: A scholarship is an award of money or equivalent granted to a student toward the expense of further study. It is based on academic achievement, but need may also be considered. Scholarship recipients are generally selected based on donor established criteria. A list is included in this package for your perusal and also posted on the St. John’s College website (www.sjconline.ca) under Student Services. Students are encouraged to begin checking the September applications immediately. Other sources of information for scholarship opportunities: consult individual university/college websites.
