In the past, identification or verification of a particular Member, Legislature or Electoral District has proved to be a tedious and time-consuming task for those researching Ontario's political history because the information is scattered in a great many sources. It was to facilitate such research that Legislators and Legislatures of Ontario covering the years from 1792 to 1984 was published in three volumes by the Ontario Legislative Library in 1984 as its contribution to the Bicentennial of Ontario celebrated that year. This volume covers the years from 1984 to 1991 and provides a cumulative index to all four volumes of Legislators and Legislatures of Ontario. It is one of several publications issued by the Legislative Library to mark the 200th anniversary of the first session of the first Parliament of Upper Canada which took place at Newaric (now Niagara-on-the-Lake) 17 September 1792. The first three volumes of this reference work were compiled and edited by Debra Fonman, then a reference librarian on the staff of the Legislative Library. The Library is fortunate to have been able to commission Ms Forman, now International Business and Trade Law Librarian at the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto, to compile and edit Volume 4. The information she collected for this reference work is the result of much intensive and painstaking research. This wQik will fill a long-felt need in the reference collections of politicians, political scientists, historians, teachers, librarians and others who have occasion to research the legislative history of Ontario. Brian Land Executive Director Ontario Legislative Library VI . Introduction Volume 4 of Legislators and Legislatures of Ontario is a continuation of Ontario's legislative history for the years 1984 through 1991. Volume 3 ended with Uie Third Session of the 32nd Legislature. The Fourth Session of the 32nd Legislature leads off this present volume and is joined by the 33rd, 34th and First Session of tiie 35Ui Legislatures. Generally speaking, the format of the preceding three volumes has been carried over into Volume 4, with some additions and, it is hoped, some improvements. Firstly, the main body of text is once again divided into two lists, die Alphabetical List of Members and the Alphabetical List of Constituencies. Both lists provide the name, constituency, and party of each MPP. In Volume 4, in an attempt to avoid duplication, legislative data has been restiicted to die Members list and electoral district information has been included in die Constituency list; tiiat is, die Members list provides legislative data while the Constituency list includes changes in the Representation Act The only data that is replicated in bofli lists relates to Party leaders. Speakers, resignations and deaths. The Alphabetical Index of Members 1792 - 1984 has been extended to 1991 as was tiie Alphabetical Index of Electoral Districts. This was done to provide researchers with a complete listing of MPPs for all four volumes. All other lists cover the years 1984- 1991 Preceding each Legislature is a page of brief facts focusing on tiiat Legislature's key events. A list of deaUi notices for former MPPs who died during the years 1984 through 199 1 has also been included. When deatii dates were unavailable, a reference to \he Journals of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario is provided. I would like to thank die staff of die Ontario Legislative Library for tiieir support and kind assistance in this project. I am also grateful to Maureen Henry, Mariene MacKinnon, Rick McLaughlin, Dasha Pohoral and Vicki Whitmell for tiieir generous technical support. Lastiy, I would like to thank my family for tiieir love and patience. They endured.
