Report of the Sub-Committees 5.1 Jumping Hills Hand Martin Renn informed the Committee that despite measures agreed upon during a meeting in Costa Navarino (GRE) during FIS Congress Vikersund has not followed up on the results and as an outcome the flying hill has no valid certificate. see enclosure 5.2 Equipment and Development The Chairman, Bertil Palsrud (NOR) reports from the meeting in the morning of the 28th September 2018: - There were no major changes regarding the equipment introduced last spring. The procedure for body weight control was changed, and athletes are being weighted without boots and keils/jets now. Four different new BMI tables were introduced for consideration. FIS staff will collect data and statistics throughout winter season on ski length /body weight relation and general tendency. - Presentation from Inggard Lereim, member of the FIS Medical Committee. A medical study on female ski jumpers was carried out last winter season by medical students of Oslo University. The outcome proves that there are not only fewer and fewer injuries, but that they are of less severe nature. This shows that relevant preventive measures have been undertaken by teams and coaching staff. Female ski jumpers are getting stronger and better trained than a few years ago. In the future, similar studies are planned for female NC athletes, which might be a good way of finding out if Nordic Combined strength is in anyway preventing injuries in Ski Jumping. The main reason for injuries in Ski Jumping in the last few years seems to be the supination of the knee caused by / brought about by binding rotation. New proposed BMI tables will have to be examined with help of outside expertise. • Ski Jumping - Overview Ski Jumping, Is a Winter Sport Where an Athlete Jumps from a Specially Constructed Takes Off Ramp from Its End
COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Ski Jumping - overview Ski Jumping, is a winter sport where an athlete jumps from a specially constructed takes off ramp from its end. This sport demands high power and is expected to fly down the steeply sloped hill. This form of skiing is similar to Nordic skiing, but without Poles. There are three official disciplines of this sport and they are − Speed (Constant in-run) Balance, with perfect take-off. Flight, maintaining till landing. There are all around 25-30 competitions organised throughout the year. An athlete have to make a proper run-in while maintaining his balance during a take-off, which will make his flight higher till the landing. A Brief History of Ski Jumping To find the origins of ski jumping, we have to go back directly to November 1809, where Danish-Norwegian lieutenant Olaf Rye launched himself 9.5 metres into the air as a show of courage to his fellow comrades at Eidsberg church in Eidsberg. In 1863, the first female competitor participated in Trysil competition. THANKS FOR READING – VISIT OUR WEBSITE www.educatererindia.com COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Sondre Norheim of Norway jumped 30 meters without the poles. The first popularly known ski jumping competition was Husebyrennene, held at Oslo in 1879 in which Olaf Haugann of Norway set a world record of longest ski jump of 20 meters. Since 1892, the annual event was moved to Holmenkollen, which remained as the grandest among the ski jumping venues. In 1964, the Large Hill competition was included in the Olympic programme in Innsbruck.

  • Usa Ski Jumping Olympic History
USA SKI JUMPING OLYMPIC HISTORY US Olympic History: The United States has competed at every Winter Olympic Games in ski jumping, but with little success. The US has won one Olympic medal in ski jumping, and it took 50 years to win that medal. In 1924, Anders Haugen, a Norwegian emigré, apparently finished 4th in the ski jumping event at Chamonix. However, in 1974, Jakob Vaage, a Norwegian sports historian, was examining the detailed results from Chamonix and realized that the scores had been added wrong, incorrectly giving the bronze medal to Norway’s Thorleif Haug. The error was corrected and in 1974, at a ceremony in Oslo, Anders Haugen was given the bronze medal by Thorleif Haug’s daughter. Since that time, no American man has reached the medal podium. Our other top 10 individual finishes were as follows: 1928 – Rolf Monsen – 6th normal hill; 1932 – Caspar Oimoen – 5th normal hill; 1936 – Walter Bietila – 5th normal hill; 1960 – Ansten Samuelstuen – 7th normal hill; 1980 – Jim Denney – 8th large hill; 1984 – Jeff Hastings – 9th normal hill and 4th large hill. The men’s team has a best finish of 10th in 1988. Ski jumping has been an all-men’s sport since the Winter Olympics began. However, women will compete in ski jumping in Sochi for the first time. The USA women are strong with Sarah Hendrickson having been World Champion in 2013 and with 13 World Cup victories to her credit. Unfortunately, Hendrickson tore her ACL in the late 2013 season, but she is still expected to compete in Sochi, although with almost no competition prior to the Olympics.
