9 11 March 2018 Media 9–11 MARCH 2018 MEDIA KIT WELCOME The press and media team in Holmenkollen wish you a warm welcome to the best skiing festival in the world. We are ready to receive 350 athletes from 30 nations, 150 journalists, photographers and commentators as well as several million TV viewers. The events in Holmenkollen are part of the FIS World Cup in Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined and Cross-Country. An instant success in its first year, the intense and extreme RAW AIR Ski Jumping Tournament once again kicks off in Holmenkollen for its second edition. The ski jumpers make their first jump of the RAW AIR tournament in the qualification round on Friday 9 March, which also serves as qualification for Sunday’s Ski Jumping competition, and they are back in the hill Saturday afternoon for the team competition and Sunday afternoon for the traditional individual competition. There is more information on RAW AIR on page 5. The women’s ski jumping competition is scheduled for Sunday morning. The Nordic Combined events take place on Saturday (provisional jumping round on Friday); the Ski Jumping in the morning and the Cross-Country race in the afternoon. The Cross-Country competitions are the traditional men’s 50 km on Saturday and the women’s 30 km on Sunday, this year in free style. Both races have the maximum total climb allowed and are the toughest of the FIS World Cup 50 and 30 km races. PARKING If you need a parking space, please contact [email protected] RAW AIR All three of the men’s jumping competitions in Holmenkollen are part of the RAW AIR Ski Jumping Tournament. RAW AIR takes place in four different cities in Norway and as last year, it starts in Holmenkollen. The athletes then travel to Lillehammer and to Trondheim before the tournament concludes with a super final in the ski flying hill in Vikersund. Each contender will face 10 competitions within the course of 10 days, with a total of 16 counting ski jumps. Points for the overall tournament will be accumulated from all of the ten consecutive competition days and the individual athlete will take their own score from the team competitions. Marit Bjørgen (NOR) has won four of the previous 11 sprint World Cup events in Ruka (all classic style), most of all athletes and one more than Petra Majdic (SLO). Bjørgen's four sprint World Cup wins in Ruka, are joint-most for her at a single venue along with Lahti and Düsseldorf. Bjørgen is on five podium finishes in sprint World Cup events in Ruka, joint- most along with Majdic. Bjørgen has only recorded more sprint World Cup podium finishes in Davos (6) than in Ruka (5). Stina Nilsson (SWE) has won the last three sprint World Cup events (free and classic) and could become the first non-Norwegian to claim four victories in a row since Majdic in 2009. Nilsson has won each of the last five sprint World Cup events she participated in. The last time she failed to claim victory was in the sprint free in Davos on 11 December 2016 (31st). On 26 November 2016, Nilsson won the sprint classic in Ruka, her first ever World Cup victory in classic style. Only Maiken Caspersen Falla (NOR, 10) has claimed more sprint World Cup wins since the start of 2014/15 than Nilsson (9). The athletes and the Russian National and Cross-Country Ski Associations were duly notified of the disciplinary proceedings and further investigations by the IOC, and the implementation of provisional suspensions by FIS. Following this notification, the athletes appealed the provisional suspension. The FIS Doping Panel, after having heard Evgeniy Belov and Alexander Legkov, and the FIS, has decided today, 25 th January 2017 by majority not to reverse its initial decision, but to uphold the provisional suspensions of Evgeniy Belov and Alexander Legkov until further notice. As a result of the decisions, the above-mentioned athletes may not take part in any competitions or national team activities. The decisions of the FIS Doping Panel may be appealed exclusively to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne (CAS) in accordance with the applicable provisions of CAS. The time to file an appeal to CAS is 21 days. The other four provisionally suspended athletes Julia Ivanova, Evgenia Shapovalova, Alexey Petukhov and Maxim Vylegzhanin have also filed appeals, which are currently in progress.

    Willinger Weltcup in Zahlen Vor Springen Nummer 50 und 51 seit 1995 3 Mal stand Olympiasieger Kamil Stoch (Polen) nach den Einzelspringen auf der Mühlenkopfschanze schon ganz oben auf dem Treppchen. Damit ist er gemeinsam mit Noriaki Kasai Rekordhalter. Beide gewannen in Willingen auch schon mit ihrem Team, Stoch auch die Premiere von „Willingen Five“ 2018. 7 DSV-Adler standen mit Sven Hannawald (2002 und 2003), Severin Freund (2011 und 2015), Andreas Wellinger (2017). Karl Geiger (2019) und Stephan Leyhe beim Kult- Willinger Weltcup als Sieger auf dem Podest. Dazu kamen drei deutsche Siege in den Teamwettbewerben (2005, 2010, 2016). Sieben Einzelsiege haben auch die österreichischen „Adler“ seit Beginn der Weltcupspringen in Willingen im Jahr 1995 errungen: Schlierenzauer (2010 und 2009), Kofler (2006), Widhölzl (2x 2000), Höllwarth (1997) und Goldberger (1995). Damit sind sie gemeinsam mit Deutschland die erfolgreichste Nation vor Polen, Norwegen und Japan mit je vier Siegen. 17 Team-Weltcups fanden bisher im Waldecker Upland statt. Österreich (4), Deutschland und Norwegen (je 3), Polen, Finnland und Slowenien (je 2) sowie Japan trugen sich dabei in die Siegerliste am Mühlenkopf ein. 21 DSV-Adler haben bisher in Willingen auf dem Weltcup-Treppchen gestanden Spitzenreiter sind Severin Freund (11), Martin Schmitt (8), Richard Freitag (7), Michael Uhrmann (6) sowie Dieter Thoma, Sven Hannawald, Michael Neumayer und Andreas Wellinger (je 4). 49 Weltcup-Konkurrenzen sind seit 1995 insgesamt im Strycktal ausgetragen worden. Österreich (11 Siege) führt die Erfolgsserie vor Deutschland (10) und Norwegen (8) an, dahinter folgen Japan und Polen (je 6), Finnland (5) sowie Slowenien (3) an. Die Nummer 50 und 51 stehen vom 29.
