INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand marking: or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1.The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation. -

CHARACTERS of the PLAY Medea, Daughter of Aiêtês, King of Colchis. Jason, Chief of the Argonauts
MEDEA CHARACTERS OF THE PLAY Medea, daughter of Aiêtês, King of Colchis. Jason, chief of the Argonauts; nephew of Pelias, King of Iôlcos in Thessaly. Creon, ruler of Corinth. Aegeus, King of Athens. Nurse of Medea. Two Children of Jason and Medea. Attendant on the children. A Messenger. Chorus of Corinthian Women, with their Leader. Soldiers and Attendants. The scene is laid in Corinth. The play was first acted when Pythodôrus was Archon, Olympiad 87, year 1 (B.C. 431). Euphorion was first, Sophocles second, Euripides third, with Medea, Philoctêtes, Dictys, and the Harvesters, a Satyr-play. The Scene represents the front of Medea's House in Corinth. A road to the right leads towards the royal castle, one on the left to the harbor. The Nurse is discovered alone. Nurse. If only the gods barred the Argo from winning the golden fleece. Then my princess, Medea, would have never traveled to Iolcus with her love Jason. Then she wouldn’t have deceived the daughters of King Pelias to kill their father. Causing her and her family to flee to Corinth. But now, Jason and Medea’s love is poisoned. Jason has spurned my princess and his own sons, for a crown. He has married the daughter of Creon. And Creon is the king of Corinth. Medea cries for her family and her home that she destroyed in Colohis. What scares me the most is that she looks at her children with hate. I know that woman. She has some scheme. (Children playing noises) Here come her children, happy and free from their mother’s pain. -

The New Mother”
“The New Mother” by Lucy Clifford (1882) 1. The children were always called Blue-Eyes and the Turkey, and they came by the names in this manner. The elder one was like her dear father who was far away at sea, and when the mother looked up she would often say, “Child, you have taken the pattern of your father’s eyes,” for the father had the bluest of Blue-Eyes, and so gradually his little girl came to be called after them. The younger one had once, while she was still almost a baby, cried bitterly because a turkey that lived near to the cottage, and sometimes wandered into the forest, suddenly vanished in the middle of the winter; and to console her she had been called by its name. Now the mother and Blue-Eyes and the Turkey and the baby all lived in a lonely cottage on the edge of the forest. The forest was so near that the garden at the back seemed a part of it, and the tall fir-trees were so close that their big black arms stretched over the little thatched roof, and when the moon shone upon them their tangled shadows were all over the white-washed walls. It was a long way to the village, nearly a mile and a half, and the mother had to work hard and had not time to go often herself to see if there was a letter at the post-office from the dear father, and so very often in the afternoon she used to send the two children. -
Playing Beattie Bow Music Credits
Music Garry McDonald & Laurie Stone Music Mixer Peter Smith 'Heart to Heart' Music & Lyrics by McDonald & Stone Sung by Karen Boddington (Cast) Singer Perri Hamilton Highland Piper Rob George Pianist (Brothel) Pat Wilson The film opens with a children's choir singing/chanting a rhyme: Oh mother, oh mother, what's that, what's that? A dog at the door, a dog at the door. Oh mother, oh mother, what's that, what's that? The wind in the chimney, that's all. Oh mother, oh mother, what's that, what's that? The cow in the bye, the horse in the stall Oh mother, oh mother, what's that, what's that? It's Beatie Bow, risen from the dead. There is an 1980s style pop song running over the end titles, with percussive and synth features typical of the times. Singer Karen Boddington was a well known session singer of the time, and by dint of her vocal duet with NZ pop singer Mark Williams performing the original theme tune for the long-running TV soap, Home and Away, has a brief wiki listing here. Lyrics for the song: Words won't tell me what's in your heart I can't believe what you say. Eyes can't see what thoughts you hide You feel so far away Compliments that you give to me Don't reveal that much it seems All the love that you offer me Only fuels my silent scream But when you're near me I hear my heart Beating out the words so rare Something changes each time we touch The hesitation disappears Heart to heart Face to face Heart to heart to heart Heart to heart Face to face Heart to heart to heart Lies aren't worth the breath they take Don't fool the lucky -
