  • Fact Sheet: National Education Gaming Championship 2015
Fact Sheet: National Education Gaming Championship 2015 28 Jun 2015 What is the National Education Gaming Championship (NEGC)? The NEGC is an inter-school gaming competition organised by the Ministry of Defence and supported by the Ministry of Education. It offers students an opportunity to learn about the 3rd Generation Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and its capabilities in a fun and engaging way. First organised in 2010, this is the fifth NEGC. What is the official game used in NEGC? Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) is the official game used in the NEGC, and is currently used by the SAF for training. VBS2 provides a virtual environment for players to go through a wide range of military scenarios from a first-person shooter perspective. The players will get to try out many weapons used in the SAF, such as the Singapore Assault Rifle 21, Section Automatic Weapon, General Purpose Machine Gun and Man-portable Anti- Tank, Anti-DooR (MATADOR). Apart from the SAF, VBS2 is currently used by other militaries including the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps, the Australian Defence Force, and the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence for mission rehearsal, tactical training and simulated combined arms exercises. Why is NEGC being organised? NEGC is an engaging way for youths to find out about the SAF and its capabilities, ranging from what it takes to be a fighting fit soldier to the technological capabilities of the 3rd Generation SAF. Through playing VBS2, participants not only have fun but learn that teamwork, having a healthy competitive spirit and fulfilling their 1 individual roles are key factors in winning the game.

Our Monthly Bulletin Founded 1947 Nan Chiau Primary School August 2017 Dear Parents, Established in 1947, Nan Chiau has been striving to progress with time, continuously undergoing self-renewal in line with the needs of the nation and making positive contributions to the educational development of Singapore. As we celebrate the school’s 70th anniversary this year, the school will be organising a carnival with the support of our dedicated PSG. We welcome the alumni to return home to join in the celebration and catch up with their ex-primary school teachers. In August, we also celebrate National Day. The theme for 2017, #OneNationTogether, reminds Singaporeans that regardless of origin and background, we unite as one people and one nation. May we set the right tone for our children, ingrain in them the right mindset and values so that they can grow into citizens of good character and build the long-lasting friendship with their peers. We will be celebrating Teachers’ Day at the end of August. As the Chinese saying goes, “饮水思源” which literally means “when drinking water, think of its source”. Let us not forget the teachers who have nurtured our students tirelessly. Giving them a note of appreciation will be a nice gesture to thank them for their support, guidance and sharing of precious life lessons. I wish all of you a happy National Day and to all my wonderful colleagues, A HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY! Mdm Mae Quah Principal Respect . Responsibility . Sincerity . PRESS RELEASE 20 AUGUST 2007 NURTURING LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AMONGST SINGAPOREANS 1. The Ministry of Education (MOE) will enhance the Malay (Special Programme) and the Chinese (Special Programme) to encourage more students to offer these official mother tongues as third languages in schools. 2. MOE will also introduce a Regional Studies Programme (RSP) to nurture a group of students comfortably conversant in Malay (ML), and with an understanding of the culture and contemporary developments in the region. Together with the MSP, this will help groom a segment of non-Malays in each generation who can effectively engage the region in future. 3.
