First broadcast in 1978, Hazell was created by Terry Venables, (before he became manager of Crystal Palace) and Gordon Williams, whose books include Siege of Trenchers Farm, which later became Straw Dogs, directed by Sam Peckinpah. The series is based on the Hazell novels they wrote together, using the joint pseudonym ‘P.B. Yuill’. Nicholas Ball plays James Hazell as a charming cockney lad who successfully picks himself up after being kicked off the police force.
