SELF-WALK TOUR CENTRAL LUND 10 1 4 3 2 5 8 9 7 6 1. The Lund Cathedral The Lund Cathedral (Swedish: Lunds Domkyrka) is the Lutheran cathedral in Lund, Scania, Sweden. It is the seat of the bishop of Lund of the Church of Sweden. A Cathedral was built in Lund before 1085, but it is difficult to know if the present building was built in the same place. In 1234 the church suffered an extensive fire. When the church was rebuilt a lecture wall, new vaults and a new facade to the west were added. Main Square From the Entrance of the Cathedral, walk south on Kyrkogatan about 100 m. There are several cafes and restaurants in the area around the main square in Lund. Several of the shopping streets starts here as well. In the south-east part of the square, your can find, Lund City Hall. 3. Lilla Fiskaregatan From the north part of the Main Square, walk west and cross Kyrkogatan. You will find a small shopping street, Lilla Fiskaregatan. Here you can find clothes shops, jewelers, cafes etc. 4. Bantorget After walking 200 m west on Lilla Fiskaregatan, you will reach Bantorget. This is a small park in front of the Grand Hotel in Lund. Here you can find several restaurants. Those who want a more exclusive meal or drink should visit the Grand Hotel, but there are several options around the square: Indian, Chinese, Thai or pub food. 5. Nygatan On the south end of Bantorget there is a small street heading south this is Nygatan. Follow Nygatan 250 m and cross Svanevägen. Now you will enter Stadsparken (the City Park). 6. Stadsparken Stadsparken is one of the two larger parks in central Lund (The other one is the Botanical Gardens, located east of the city centre). The locals use Stadsparken for recreation. Here you can have a walk around and maybe take an Ice Cream in the park cafe located in the west end of the park. When you are leaving the park walk to the east until you reach the road Gyllenkroks allé. Follow Gyllenkroks allé north and take to Grönegatan. 7. Grönegatan When you walk north on Grönegatan you will have a large school building to the right. This is Katedralskolan. The school was founded in 1085 and is thus the oldest educational institution in the Nordic region. The current main building is however from 1896. After walking 270 m on Grönegatan, take a right into Kattesund. 8. Kattesund After walking 50 m on the small road Kattesund you will have a small museum to the left. This is an underground medieval museum with an excavated stone church from the 1000's. The museum contains excavated remains of one of Lund's oldest and most interesting church buildings and finds from the excavations. After another 50 m you will reach Stora Södergatan, cross that road and turn right and than take the first left to Västra Mårtensgatan. Follow Västra Mårtensgatan and you will have Saluhallen on your left side. 9. Saluhallen If you are starting to get hungry here you kind find something to eat and drink. Saluhallen is the old indoor food market in Lund. The building has recently been refurbished and houses today several places where you can get a snack or even a meal. 10. Lundagård and Akademiska Föreningen If you enter Saluhallen from the south you can walk through and exit on the north side. The walk north on Svartbrödersgatan and turn left on Skomakaregatan. After 100 m you are once again at the Main Square. Here you can turn right up on Kungsgatan and walk 100 m up to the Cathedral. Continue north to the park Lundagård. Here you will find the University Aula and AF-Borgen The park is in the heart of the city, and it is as old as the city itself. There is a lot of history connected to this park. Nowadays it is most famous for the student carnival that is held here every four years. .
