World Wide Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Development WWJMRD 2018; 4(3): 68-73 www.wwjmrd.com International Journal Peer Reviewed Journal Urban Population Growth in the Municipalities of Refereed Journal Indexed Journal North 24 Parganas: A Spatio-Temporal Analysis UGC Approved Journal Impact Factor MJIF: 4.25 E-ISSN: 2454-6615 Mashihur Rahaman Mashihur Rahaman Abstract Research Scholar The rapid growth of urban population causes various problems in urban centres like increased P.G. Department of unemployment, economic instability, lacks of urban facilities, unhygienic environmental conditions Geography, Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar, etc. People were well aware about the importance of population studies from very beginning. Odisha, India Explosively growing of urban population has attracted the attention of urban geographers and town planners. For country like India, it is very important to study the decadal variation of population growth, it helps in realizing problems. The population growth and socio-economic changes are closely related to each other. In present study North 24 Parana’s has been chosen as study area. The level of urbanization remained high in the district (57.6 % in 2011). Rapid increase in urbanization can be attributed to growth of Kolkata metropolis.Barasat is now within greater Kolkata (Kolkata 124).From 1991 onwards the real estate business in this district thrived and projects were taken which are more of residential type than business type. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the change in urban population growth rate of municipality wise during the three decades 1981-91, 1991- 2001 and 2001-2011. Due to push-pull factors the rural-urban migration is causing the process of urbanization.

Undoubtedly the Progressive Literature, Social realism. Communist Party of India gave leadership in this cultural renaissance established on social realism but renowned personalities not under the umbrella of the Marxist *Corresponding Author Email: sreyasighosh[at]yahoo.com ideology also participated and contributed a lot in it which influenced contemporary literature, songs, painting, sculpture, dance movements and world of movie- making. Organisations like the All-India Progressive Writers” Association( 1936), Youth Cultural Institute ( 1940), Association of Friends of the Soviet Union (1941), Anti- Fascist Writers and Artists” Association ( 1942) and the All- India People”s Theatre Association (1943) etc emerged as pillars of that movement. I.P.T.A was nothing but a very effective arm of the Pragati Lekhak Sangha, which was created mainly for flourishing talent of artists engaged with singing and drama performances.

Director / President's Note Since 2004, Purba Paschim beginning to roll, the philosophical base has been leading us in making better productions, arranging theatre workshops, seminar, exhibition, social awareness with our artists, members along with reputed theatre personalities, artistes, writers of fame, who have been interacted with us. Apart, every year we are publishing an Annual Theatre Magazine with rich contents and photographs. We also have been able to hold the Twelveth Annual Theatre Festival in November 2019. We are happy to revive this year one of our remarkable production ‘Potol Babu Film Star’ and this production had visited Darshana, Bangladesh in Anirban Theatre Festival along with other shows. It is needless to mention that with the revival of this production we have been able to perform more than 180 shows till it's first premiere a decade ago. Moreover, our regular productions 'Ek Mancha Ek Jibon' and 'Athoijol' have simultaneously been performed in different stages both from our end and also invitation. We have invited Mr Manish Mitra, to prepare a workshop based production involving our talents ‘O' Rom Mone Hoi’ and it also have been successfully staged and performed 11 shows. Purba Paschim have been invited in various theatre festival in different states of the country and different parts of West Bengal, amongst Paschimbanga Natya Academy. • The Bauls of Birbhum: Identity, Fusion and Diffusion Bidhan Mondal M
International Research Journal of Interdisciplinary & Multidisciplinary Studies (IRJIMS) A Peer-Reviewed Monthly Research Journal ISSN: 2394-7969 (Online), ISSN: 2394-7950 (Print) Volume-I, Issue-IX, October 2015, Page No. 06-11 Published by: Scholar Publications, Karimganj, Assam, India, 788711 Website: http://www.irjims.com The Bauls of Birbhum: Identity, Fusion and Diffusion Bidhan Mondal M. Phil Student (UGC Junior Research Fellow), Department of Folklore, University of Kalyani, Kalyani, West Bengal, India Dr. Sujay Kumar Mandal Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of Folklore, University of Kalyani, Kalyani, West Bengal, India Abstract In the political climate of ardent nationalism the pride on a glorious, indigenous past was to be resuscitated through the revaluation and rehabilitation of local folk traditions, that led to my interest in collecting folklore and the increasing use (and misuse) of folk themes. The relationship between folklore and technology is a long debated one. In the earlier phases of folkloristics, technological development was seen as a threat to the conservation of folklife and scholars were busy in collecting and preserving ‘authentic’ tales, songs and handicraft before the homologating assault of modern civilisation destroyed them. This article intends to examine the nexus between folklore and technology in the context of Bengali Baul songs of Birbhum and their Sahajiya Sadhana, from a different perspective from the earlier. It takes interest in discovering the bricolage of humanism, the fusion and diffusion from beyond that helps increasing the “cultural syncretism” through Baul songs that has been delivering the secrets of Indian culture through their performances all over the world, without media and technology this could never be possible.

The participants include – Kishen Kumar, Shymanand Jalan, Shiv Kumar Joshi, Shiv Kumar Jhunjhunwala, Manamohan Thakore1, Samik Banerjee, Dharani Ghosh, Usha Ganguly2 and Bimal Lath. We welcome all of you on behalf of Natya Shodh Sansthan. For quite some time we, the actors, directors, critics and the members of the audience have been appreciating and at the same time complaining about the plays that are being staged in Calcutta in the languages that are being practiced in Calcutta, be it in Hindi, English, Bangla or any other language. We felt that if we, the practitioners should sit down and talk about the various issues that are bothering us, we may be able to solve some of the problems and several issues may be resolved. Often it so happens that the artists take one side and the critics-audience occupies the other. There is a clear division – one group which creates and the other who criticizes. Many a time this proves to be useful and necessary as well.

Bengali gentility is facing a really critical situation. And it has been made worse by the heavier influx of non-Bengalis in search of employment and almost impossible by the arrival of lakhs of Bengalis from East Pakistan who are largely concentrated in and around Calcutta. The concept of gentility moreover, is no less psychological than economic. And as the frontier of is changing and its scale is ascending, the struggle for climbing up to it and for preserving the status quo as well is becoming keener day by day. The crisis of Bengali gentility is therefore not only economic. It is a social and psychological crisis also, with all its ramifying consequences. The author is a well known writer in Bengali, and his recent study on the culture of West Bengal following his earlier survey of Bengal villages and towns, cultural and economic, is a pioneer work in the field bf Bengali letters.
