Caulfield Grammarians caused the upset of the round at Elsternwick Park last Saturday when they " off the deck" to beat Collegians. Four goals down half way through the last quarter, Caulfield suddenly un- leashed a 6 goalburst to win by 11 points . Collegians had looked in control early in the last quarter after leading by only 3 points at three quarter time but the 'Fields' came from nowhere to "steal" the game. I think the turning point might have been the return to the ground of Caulfield ruckman David Matthews. Reported nd sent off last in the third term for striking Lion rover Jeff Lemon, Matthews took control in the ruck and Caul- i{rld won the ball from the centre with amazing regularity. Amateur stalwarts noted that on previous occasions they've seen players sent off, the side with 17 men hasin- variably won! Remember Stephen Pi rr ie in the 1981 Preliminary final against De La Salle? The Old Xaveria n ruckman won the A Section Best and Fairest that year, was reported and sent off for abusing the umpire . After 15 minutes he came back on, helped Xavs win the game and they went on to beat North Old Boys in the Grand Final! Ormond contnues to make the pace, this week having accounted for De La Salle by 14 points. Ormond trailed Make the most of your money, at three quarter time by 4 points but finished the better. De La Salle could not reproduce their excellent third quarter performance when they added 7 goals in a polished display .
