1. Introduction

Season ending

This is the last issue but one, and I'd like to take the opportunity to ask you all to recruit players. Next season will start in 2-3 weeks; you can introduce them to the game yourself, or simply refer them to me and I'll take it from there.

As you saw in the earlier email, I'm asking you what you want to do with your team(s) for the next season. Your options are

1) Drop the team 2) Restart the team (generated with 60 VP as you did before this season) 3) Keep playing the team as is

The choice between 2 and 3 is this season only – later on, if your team has 60 VPs or more, it will be played on (by you or someone else) – and if your team has less than 60 VP, it will be deleted, and you (or someone else) have to restart it.

Also please include whether you'd want to 1) Start a new team and/or 2) Take over an existing, dropped, team

I'll use the rules set out on the homepage for assignment of teams – but the best is, of course, if it fits a multiple of 12 without having to «take» teams from players. I'm willing to start a new league of 12 in addition to the 3 based on these 36 teams, if I can fill them all. I already have 3 new registered players, hoping for more to come. Questionnaire

I had a very good turnout for the questionnaire – good! Results can be summaried like this:

• The schedule should remain as is – that received all but a token vote. • A web submission form would be nice for over half the players, and almost one third would always use it, provided it contained the team information. • Players managing multiple teams is a good thing, as long as it doesn't shut players out of playing. • A homepage with a separate page for each team (autogenerated) would be really cool. • Match comments is an important part of the enjoyment of the game. • All current topics in the introduction is wanted by at least 2/3 of the players, with number of teams submitted topping the heap. A number of players suggested that any info is good info, so I should feel free to include anything.

So, based on this, schedule will remain as is (except holidays, of course). A web submission form will be a long term goal – I can imagine having time to look into this around August, so I'll just have to see how much work it would be to get it up and running. I'll keep the current rules for managing multiple teams. A homepage with a separate page for each team shouldn't be so much work, so I'll see what I can do through rest of the month and May. I won't skip match comments, and I won't trim the introduction.

A number of issues also came up which it would be nice to know strong feelings about, basically: 1) Would it be nice if the introduction was moved to the end of the email? (renamed to «GM's ramble» or something to that effect, I suppose). 2) Would a standalone executable (running under Windows only) that imports a file I'd send, and exports a file you submit, be better, the same, or less good than a web submission form? (It would be easier for me to do) 3) Would sorting information by division, instead of by section, be better, the same, or worse than how I currently do it? (this is extra work) 4) If we reach the situation that we have a team or two that we don't have players for, should we wait until we do, or should we use an AI to play them, listing them as vacant to be taken over at any time? And if we'd use an AI, would we use it before or after offering the teams to players already having teams in the same division? General introduction

So, the regular part of the introduction, here we come! With season running to a close, I'm waiting with some suspense to see how many want to continue, and how many want to join.

This time, 31 teams submitted – all teams missing the deadline had already missed at least two.

Rosedale Open is currently led by Lower Tadfield Apocalypse with 32 points, three points ahead of Grunts United and Call of Cthulhu. At the bottom, we find Ladish Sausage with 10 points, Fishwick Old Contemptibles with 8 points, and Coventry with 7 points.

Crowbury Challenge is currently led by the Ancients at 20, with New Bremen Cyberdruids and Pocket Valley Philosophers five points behind, and ANU FC another point behind.

In Bellaire Bataille, we find Grorud Grasshuggers at the top with 20 points, followed by Toy Town Rovers at 17 and the Blitzball Team at 15.

The Barrhaven Tournament top tie split this round, leaving Mishima Zaibatsu in the lead with 21 points, followed by Muppets with 19 and Trivial Brief Association with 16 points.

The luckiest team of Rosedale Open is Jedi Order, followed by Grunts United and Fishwick Old Contemptibles. The unluckiest team of Rosedale Open is Saturday Morning FC, followed by Coventry and Car Park Rangers.

The luckiest team of the league extension is Muppets, followed by the Ancients and Toy Town Rovers. The unluckest team of the league extension is Gangsters United, followed by Dangermouse and Equipe de France.

The home advantage is still 9 VP. The last two matches of all leagues, and the final of both cups, are played in the next issue.

Your teams will be sent out soon.

The deadline for issue 12, the last issue of the season, is Friday, April 23, at 2130 CET.

2. Broadcast messages

Espen Chr. Brill, Algorion Wonderboys: «What do you mean, we're not getting paid?»

Ian Moes, ANU FC: «So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression Said, If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right»

Pierre 'Shotgun' Duval, Camarilla Divided: «More action! Vacation and long meetings should be banned.»

Paul Riley, Car Park Rangers: «Following the bizarre transfer news around the Evil Midnight Bomber, Paul Riley was seen in the dead of night peeing in each corner of the pitch and then doing a strange arm-waving dance to the tune of Genie in a Bottle on the center spot.

When asked what the heck he thought he was doing, the manager mumbled something about taking lessons in luck from Barry Fry and Erlend Janbu. To borrow the words of Freddie Mercury, The Rosedale Sun suspects Mr. Riley may be "driving only three wheels these days".»

Darius Molloy, Dangermouse: «GO the lucky horseshoe and four leaf clover!!!»

Eric Billot, FC Gnome: «Someday, we'll win matches» Espen Chr. Brill, Grorud Grasshuggers: «This message is cursed. As you read you will be confuset by there printeb wertz yer intellijenc will vabni...xrt! xrt!»

Espen Chr. Brill, Grunts United: «Every time I find out the meaning of life, they change it.»

Darth Vehusheia, Jedi Order: «I was a fool to have trusted in the light.»

Ray Setzer, Ladish Sausage: «Relegation means having people littler than you to beat up on.»

Erlend Janbu, Mishima Zaibatsu: «Family affairs, Mishima style: , to Heihachi: When I've killed you, all this will be over. *Jin defeats Heihachi* *Jin prepares for the kill* *Jin lets go* Jin Kazama: Thank my mother, Kazama Jun.»

Håvard Pettersen, Odd Athletics: «Just when you thought things couldn't get any odder...»

Kent Rune Klungerbo, Rocking Harmonies: «w00t»

Steve Janecek, Sheffield Thursday: «Need Young Players? Does your minor league team not provide the young players you need? Look no further than the Thursday. Thursday has what you need! Make Friday better, and trade with Thursday!»

Owen Blagae, Stranraer Reserves: «Come on guys, let's stop the double!!!!» --> Erlend Janbu, Lower Tadfield Apocalypse: «Let's stop Stranraer's chain of games without defeat!»

Paul Riley, Toy Town Rovers: «And the piper played, and the children followed.»

4. League results

Rosedale Open Match day 19 ======

Car Park Rangers - Sportfånarna United 3 : 1 Scorers: Al Simmons (20.), Oliver Queen (15.) ***Kodachi Kuno (18.) Penalties: 1 ***- Sent off: Steve Rogers (53.) ***--- Booked: Bruce Banner ***Genma Saotome Car Park Rangers have been picking up form lately, and come back with the win they really, really wanted. Of course, the card god has a thing or two to say to them still. The Dust Stompers are living dangerously, giving another two points to a team below them - can their early season form save them from relegation?

Fishwick Old Contemptibles - Coventry 0 : 3 Scorers: --- ***Malcolm Middle (47., 61., 83.) Penalties: - (2 missed) ***- Booked: --- ***Ivor Wall, Robbie Starr Malcom Middle pulls out another hattrick, this time against fellow strugglers Fishwick Old Contemptibles. Can there still be time for them? The Fishies, of course, demonstrates by losing this match that they in all likelihood play in Lexington League next season.

Jedi Order - Stranraer Reserves 2 : 3 Scorers: Kyle Katarn (18., 77.) ***Heiyu Hoyahamahia (71., 78.) Penalties: - ***1 The Blues tok quite easy on this match - so easy, in fact, that the home team were favourites. However, it seems all the Lightside luck has left the Jedis with Darth Vehusheia turning to the dark side, and Stranraer gains both points, keeping up well in the run for medals.

Lower Tadfield Apocalypse - Grunts United 0 : 0 Booked: --- ***Mean Middlefielder The match the Greenskins needed to win to challenge the Apocalypse for the title, but it was the home team that had the play and the chances, and a good chance of winning. However, lucky and skillful defending from the away team lead to a goalless draw.

Camarilla Divided - Ladish Sausage 2 : 0 Scorers: O'Eliza Rodham-Cox the Wise (21.), ZiiiiM the Dodgy Mumbler (48.) *** --- A quite easy match for Generation X, with the Mad Cows struggling away, as usual.

Call of Cthulhu - Saturday Morning FC 4 : 0 Scorers: Shub-Niggurath (34., 75.), Nyarlathotep (22.), Azathoth (61.) ***--- Booked: --- ***Rick Hunter Severely weakened by the recent transfer, the 2Ds didn't have much to put up against the Lurking Fear at Arkham Asylum. The Necronomicon is still clinging to the hope of championship, closing in a point on Tadfield this round.

Rosedale Open Match day 20 ======

Sportfånarna United - Saturday Morning FC 5 : 4 Scorers: Kodachi Kuno (16., 22.), Ryoga Hibiki (49., 68.), Nabiki Tendo (89.) ***The Tick (22., 77.), She-Ra Princess of Power (45.), Rick Hunter (56.) Booked: Genma Saotome ***Danger Mouse, She-Ra Princess of Power With Ryoga back in town, it was shishi hokodan all the way, and the Dust Stompers managed to keep both points at Bollstadion, despite the away team being slightly stronger. With these two points, it appears quite certain that Fånarna will remain in Rosedale Open for next season.

Ladish Sausage - Call of Cthulhu 1 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Shub-Niggurath (80.), Azathoth (34.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: Caro 'Giblets' Czylick, Silvio 'Linguine' Linknowski ***--- Cheered on by Otto's Meats, the Mad Cows fought hard, but in the end, Call of Cthulhu was a bit too much to handle. This means the lads of Foster Avenue Middle School is in a tight spot for avoiding relegation, whereas the Lurking Fear charges ahead in the medal fight.

Grunts United - Camarilla Divided 3 : 0 Scorers: Mean Middlefielder (33.), Fean Forwarder (22.), Fork Fever (84.) *** --- Booked: Bouncin Boulder ***Carla 'Narrow-minded' Walston, Christopher 'All Air' Emerson In keeping with their away draw against the table toppers, the Greenskins show they'll fight tooth and claw (or at least claw) for a top spot, avenging the earlier 1-0 defeat in the process. Camarilla Divided will now have a hard time claiming medals, but there's still two rounds to go, and pretty much can still happen.

Stranraer Reserves - Lower Tadfield Apocalypse 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Anthony J. Crowley (20.), Sister Mary Loquacious (39.) Booked: Bruce Ilosis ***--- The test run of the cup final! Before this match, Lower Tadfield was topping the league, and Stranraer had an impressive run of 12 games undefeated. In the end, it was the latter that had to go in this even match at Stair Park - and the best chance of stopping the double seems to be for the Blues to pick themselves together for the showdown at Rosedale Stadium next weekend.

Coventry - Jedi Order 0 : 3 Scorers: --- ***Aayla Secura (20.), Luke Skywalker (48.), Kyle Katarn (66.) Booked: Malcolm Middle, Willy Speed ***--- A match where the draw seemed quite likely, but someone had greased Coventry's goalies' gloves, and everything went in. Did the darkside only need to power up?

Car Park Rangers - Fishwick Old Contemptibles 7 : 1 Scorers: Henry McCoy (15., 25., 54., 81.), Tony Stark (6.), Oliver Queen (5.), Connor Hawke (65.) ***The Evil Midnight Bomber (49.) Sent off: Peter Parker (15.) ***--- Booked: Connor Hawke ***--- Car Park manager Paul Riley tried to rest Connor Hawke, but he disobeyed orders and strolled onto the field. The match was completely one-sided; the only thing that gave the visiting Fishies any chance at all was the home team using rough play points.

Crowbury Challenge Match day 11 ======

Shock & Awe - the Ancients 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Morosaurus (48.), Indricotherium (28.) Booked: --- ***Morosaurus As expected, the Chargers were quite outmatched by the Oldtimers, even at Gulf Stream Stadium.

ANU FC - Satanic Wonder Hamsters 4 : 0 Scorers: Ageing (12., 36., 49.), Scythe (80.) ***--- Easy was just the middle name for ANU FC here.

Pocket Valley Philosophers - Gangsters United 2 : 8 Scorers: Schlegel (79.) ***Al Capone (23., 31., 61., 90.), John Gotti (43., 56.), Teddy KGB (7., 69.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: --- ***John Gotti This match at Pocket Valley Bowl probably removes the last doubt of who will win Crowbury Challenge, as the Mobsters successfully and deservedly put a stop to the Drunken Thinkers' promotion ambitions. Will Gangsters United be able to grab second place behind the Ancients?

Dead Dino Storage - New Bremen Cyberdruids 0 : 0 Dead Dino Storage were weakened by a suspension for this match, and coupled with the Cyberdruids having bought a new player, the away team actually had the better chances. Still, goalless it went, and the race for the places behind the Ancients is still tight and open.

Crowbury Challenge Match day 12 ======

Pocket Valley Philosophers - Satanic Wonder Hamsters 9 : 0 Scorers: Nietzsche (16., 25., 51., 73.), Wittgenstein (45., 79.), Marx (37.), Descartes (7.), Beckenbauer (89.) ***--- Win chances, home team: 100%. Draw chances? "Too low"! Of course, this was the Drunken Thinkers' night, and the Hamsters dug themselves a hole in the ground.

Shock & Awe - Dead Dino Storage 1 : 4 Scorers: --- ***Genesis (67., 82.), Porcupine Tree (31., 54.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: --- ***Genesis, Spock's Beard After losing at the Hole, Trond Botnen took no chances, and decided the match with some muscles. Genesis will have to rest next round, though!

Gangsters United - the Ancients 1 : 2 Scorers: Teddy KGB (54.) ***Nanotyrannus (44.), Trilobite (27.) Booked: --- ***Indricotherium The bad luck of the Gangsters to end? Apparently not! This almost exactly even match between two strong teams was decided by two goals in the first half from the Ancients.

ANU FC - New Bremen Cyberdruids 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Grant Dalton (67.) Penalties: - ***1 (1 missed) Sent off: Woo Woo (65.) ***--- Booked: Gio ***--- The Cyberdruids put in an application for the luckiest teams list with this robbery of an away win. They shoot towards a prize finish, while ANU FC lags slightly behind.

Bellaire Bataille Match day 11 ======

Toy Town Rovers - Dangermouse 8 : 6 Scorers: "Big Bad" Wolf (4., 31.), Robin Hood (19., 53.), Pied Piper (60.), Prince Charming (50.), Beowulf (73.), Cole (43.) ***Nero (15., 56.), Stiletto (64., 83.), Count Duckula (38., 74.) Sent off: --- ***Isanbard (4.) Booked: King Cole ***--- Whoa! Now that's what I call an entertaining match! However, the home team was stronger even before the early red card, so the results flatters the visitors greatly. It's likely too late for the Fables to challenge the Grasshuggers, though. The Mouseketeers, on the other hand, still seems to be within striking distance of a prize finish, but they cannot give away many more points to get one.

Sheffield Thursday - Rocking Harmonies 9 : 2 Scorers: Nick Kollias (40., 46., 90.), Mike Virgilio (8., 50., 71.), Collin Weir (2.), Eugenio Lopez (21.) ***James Hetfield (5., 37.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: Dan Zalika ***Joachim Berg, Josh Homme, Robert Trujillo A hard fought match at Hillsborough Stadium saw the Owls give a sound demonstration that they, too, know how to play soccer. Rocking Harmonies' form curve is starting to look like one of normal distribution.

Desassossego Boys - Grorud Grasshuggers 0 : 0 Booked: --- ***Monty The Blues somewhat surprisingly keep the Grasshuggers to a goalless draw at Athena Stadium. Impressive! Still, it'll take quite much to catch the league toppers.

FC Gnome - The Blitzball Team 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Yuna (18.) Penalties: - ***1 Booked: Pierre Lebouef ***--- The Blitzballers charge ahead with another win, this time at Gnome's Garden. Their supporters celebrates and talks fondly of the team's chances, while Olympic de Marseille look to the next season.

Bellaire Bataille Match day 12 ======

Desassossego Boys - Rocking Harmonies 8 : 3 Scorers: Alvaro de Campos (3., 16., 56., 70.), Ricardo Reis (9., 90.), Ant¢nio Mora (11.) ***James Hetfield (75., 77.), Francis Healy (51.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: --- ***Joachim Berg An impressive performance by Alvaro de Campos at Athena Stadium, brings the Blues right up there, while the Harmonies will have to wait for the bell and try again next season - the current form doesn't leave many chances of a top position with two matches to go.

Toy Town Rovers - FC Gnome 5 : 1 Scorers: Beowulf (12., 16., 39.), Wensleydale (3.), King Cole (32.) ***--- Penalties: - ***1 The Fables win again, one point behind Grasshuggers with one more match played now. Can they compete? Da Gnomers was up for too much of a challenge here as suspected, but we look forward to see them in better shape next season!

Grorud Grasshuggers - Dangermouse 6 : 0 Scorers: Pit the even younger (14., 28., 43.), Monty (88.), Commander Reich (52.), Herb (16.) ***--- Penalties: - ***- (1 missed) Booked: --- ***Buggles Pigeon, Penfold The Grasshuggers strengthens their grip on the Bellaire championship, much to the pleasure of the Grorud Widows. Football Kingz are currently running around wondering whatever happened to the four-leaf clover!

Sheffield Thursday - The Blitzball Team 1 : 1 Scorers: --- ***Lulu (76.) Penalties: 1 ***- The Owls did one of their best performances of the season, clearly making this their top weekend so far, with a surprising draw against the Blitzballers. This also means that the Fables are looking more comfortable.

Barrhaven Tournament Match day 11 ======

Odd Athletics - Sale Savoyards 1 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Robin (15.), Mountararat (53.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: Odd Rooster ***Tolloler Both teams fought well at Strangeworld, and in the end, the Singers comes out ahead two goals to one, and the Gilbertians fondly watch the table change from round to round.

Mishima Zaibatsu - Muppets 6 : 1 Scorers: (16., 79.), Jin Kazama (2.), (58.), Lee Chaolan (44.) ***Marvin Suggs (58.) Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: ***Beaker, Crazy Harry, Floyd Pepper, Lew Zealand This match is very important to the outcome of the Barrhaven Tournament, and after Muppets winning their home match against Zaibatsu, those who heed th call returned the favour, with both teams preserving their perfect home tally. Can the Accidents catch up this two point lead?

Algorion Wonderboys - Equipe de France 2 : 0 Scorers: Ehloat Peacebear (83.), Oleritgatl Graybuck (33.) ***--- Managerless EdF had a hard time against the Wonderboys, even with the latter facing suspensions.

Trivial Brief Association - The Nightfall Dreamers 6 : 0 Scorers: Pepper (42., 63.), Dissy Video Dreamer (57.), KLM (83.), Byrocratic Trenching Worldwide (15.), Receiver Of Message (35.) ***--- Owen Riggs was again absent, and TBA proved way too strong for the Ambience.

Barrhaven Tournament Match day 12 ======Algorion Wonderboys - Muppets 0 : 1 Scorers: --- ***Crazy Harry (30.) Booked: Gahuid Moonsailor ***--- The Wonderboys defended well at Algorgoroth Wonderground, but the Accidents got one goal behind their goalie, and that was all they needed.

Odd Athletics - Trivial Brief Association 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Dissy Video Dreamer (46., 83.) Booked: Odd Geir Riise ***Receiver Of Message TBA grabs another two deserved points, but with only two matches to go, is there any hope of catching Muppets? Meanwhile, Odd has joined the ranks of clubs waiting for next season - with some players taking an earlier vacation than others.

Equipe de France - Sale Savoyards 0 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Strephon (12.), Mountararat (32.) EdF wasn't to be the team to stop Sale Savoyards' run - but few had expected them to anyway. And the Gilbertians' song goes on and on and on...

Mishima Zaibatsu - The Nightfall Dreamers 4 : 0 Scorers: Lee Chaolan (3., 22.), Hwoarang (30.), Kazuya Mishima (43.) ***--- Once again without manager Riggs, the Ambience couldn't put up much of a resistance against table toppers Mishima Zaibatsu.
