Introduction Season ending This is the last issue but one, and I'd like to take the opportunity to ask you all to recruit players. Next season will start in 2-3 weeks; you can introduce them to the game yourself, or simply refer them to me and I'll take it from there. As you saw in the earlier email, I'm asking you what you want to do with your team(s) for the next season. Your options are 1) Drop the team 2) Restart the team (generated with 60 VP as you did before this season) 3) Keep playing the team as is The choice between 2 and 3 is this season only – later on, if your team has 60 VPs or more, it will be played on (by you or someone else) – and if your team has less than 60 VP, it will be deleted, and you (or someone else) have to restart it. Also please include whether you'd want to 1) Start a new team and/or 2) Take over an existing, dropped, team I'll use the rules set out on the homepage for assignment of teams – but the best is, of course, if it fits a multiple of 12 without having to «take» teams from players. I'm willing to start a new league of 12 in addition to the 3 based on these 36 teams, if I can fill them all. I already have 3 new registered players, hoping for more to come. Questionnaire I had a very good turnout for the questionnaire – good! Results can be summaried like this: • The schedule should remain as is – that received all but a token vote. • A web submission form would be nice for over half the players, and almost one third would always use it, provided it contained the team information. • Players managing multiple teams is a good thing, as long as it doesn't shut players out of playing. • A homepage with a separate page for each team (autogenerated) would be really cool. • Match comments is an important part of the enjoyment of the game. • All current topics in the introduction is wanted by at least 2/3 of the players, with number of teams submitted topping the heap. A number of players suggested that any info is good info, so I should feel free to include anything. So, based on this, schedule will remain as is (except holidays, of course). A web submission form will be a long term goal – I can imagine having time to look into this around August, so I'll just have to see how much work it would be to get it up and running. I'll keep the current rules for managing multiple teams. A homepage with a separate page for each team shouldn't be so much work, so I'll see what I can do through rest of the month and May. I won't skip match comments, and I won't trim the introduction. A number of issues also came up which it would be nice to know strong feelings about, basically: 1) Would it be nice if the introduction was moved to the end of the email? (renamed to «GM's ramble» or something to that effect, I suppose). 2) Would a standalone executable (running under Windows only) that imports a file I'd send, and exports a file you submit, be better, the same, or less good than a web submission form? (It would be easier for me to do) 3) Would sorting information by division, instead of by section, be better, the same, or worse than how I currently do it? (this is extra work) 4) If we reach the situation that we have a team or two that we don't have players for, should we wait until we do, or should we use an AI to play them, listing them as vacant to be taken over at any time? And if we'd use an AI, would we use it before or after offering the teams to players already having teams in the same division? General introduction So, the regular part of the introduction, here we come! With season running to a close, I'm waiting with some suspense to see how many want to continue, and how many want to join. This time, 31 teams submitted – all teams missing the deadline had already missed at least two. Rosedale Open is currently led by Lower Tadfield Apocalypse with 32 points, three points ahead of Grunts United and Call of Cthulhu. At the bottom, we find Ladish Sausage with 10 points, Fishwick Old Contemptibles with 8 points, and Coventry with 7 points. Crowbury Challenge is currently led by the Ancients at 20, with New Bremen Cyberdruids and Pocket Valley Philosophers five points behind, and ANU FC another point behind. In Bellaire Bataille, we find Grorud Grasshuggers at the top with 20 points, followed by Toy Town Rovers at 17 and the Blitzball Team at 15. The Barrhaven Tournament top tie split this round, leaving Mishima Zaibatsu in the lead with 21 points, followed by Muppets with 19 and Trivial Brief Association with 16 points. The luckiest team of Rosedale Open is Jedi Order, followed by Grunts United and Fishwick Old Contemptibles. The unluckiest team of Rosedale Open is Saturday Morning FC, followed by Coventry and Car Park Rangers. The luckiest team of the league extension is Muppets, followed by the Ancients and Toy Town Rovers. The unluckest team of the league extension is Gangsters United, followed by Dangermouse and Equipe de France. The home advantage is still 9 VP. The last two matches of all leagues, and the final of both cups, are played in the next issue. Your teams will be sent out soon. The deadline for issue 12, the last issue of the season, is Friday, April 23, at 2130 CET. 2. Broadcast messages Espen Chr. Brill, Algorion Wonderboys: «What do you mean, we're not getting paid?» Ian Moes, ANU FC: «So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression Said, If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right» Pierre 'Shotgun' Duval, Camarilla Divided: «More action! Vacation and long meetings should be banned.» Paul Riley, Car Park Rangers: «Following the bizarre transfer news around the Evil Midnight Bomber, Paul Riley was seen in the dead of night peeing in each corner of the pitch and then doing a strange arm-waving dance to the tune of Genie in a Bottle on the center spot. When asked what the heck he thought he was doing, the manager mumbled something about taking lessons in luck from Barry Fry and Erlend Janbu. To borrow the words of Freddie Mercury, The Rosedale Sun suspects Mr. Riley may be "driving only three wheels these days".» Darius Molloy, Dangermouse: «GO the lucky horseshoe and four leaf clover!!!» Eric Billot, FC Gnome: «Someday, we'll win matches» Espen Chr. Brill, Grorud Grasshuggers: «This message is cursed. As you read you will be confuset by there printeb wertz yer intellijenc will vabni...xrt! xrt!» Espen Chr.
