My name is Vicente Durá, commonly known as Vicens within my social circles and I am the senior editor of this Magazine which is a CAS Project I decided to create. I am grateful to be returning here for our second and final issue of the school year 2018-2019. Now, it is a time to reflect on our accomplishments. Firstly: we were able to print and distribute the 80 copies of the last issue and collect the amount of 59,20€ which went towards Malayaka house. Although the amount of funds raised may not appear to be high, I feel great satisfaction to see how the work of my fellow journalists and colleagues is appreciated here at NEXUS and beyond. Secondly: we have realized the amount of paper wasted due to printing errors and the footprint the magazine had in general. I was determined to reduce the footprint and that was why we have decided to invest in recycled paper for this issue. The paper you are holding right now had a quite different use in its previous life and you are contributing to this cause, even in case of baby steps such as this one. Recycled paper makes this magazine a vintage! So, you are also being trendy right now! In my studies about business, I learnt that some businesses take advantage of these ethical stances to charge a higher price and not necessarily committing fully to it. That how I stumbled upon the fact that the bleaching used in recycled paper is also damaging the environment! That is why we have ensured to invest in recycled paper that is not bleached. In future, I would like to reduce NEXT Magazine’s footprint to zero, which means that we will have to address technological challenges and find ways to increase demand for virtual magazines in our school’s community. Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to think more about the climate change, making more improvements to slow it down and recognize the value in the quality of life we lead right now – as it may not be like this in few years. I kindly ask all readers to re-use this paper, even as a tablecloth for kids’ painting or crafting. On a bigger scale, I motivate everyone to advocate for a sustainable lifestyle because it is us, the consumers, who can make a change in this “corporate world”. Page | 4 US GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN By: Kristina Mesrobyan Y12 At the start of the new year, the US government was shut down not because of the holidays but because of their president, Donald Trump. The government was officially shut down on December 22, 2018 and has recently reopened on January 25, 2019. This made history as being the longest government shut down America has ever faced, and it had lasted a grand total of 35 days. The shutdown has made major headlines all over the world and has been reported by a numerous amount of different news outlets such as BBC, CNN, ABC NEWS, and many more. Most of the general public is conscious and has Figure 3: The White House with a notice information about the shutdown that has happened in the United States, but many people do not know nor It is also very important to shine light on the impact understand what the motives of the shutdown were. and consequences that the government shutdown The pressing question that most people do not have has had. Throughout the duration of the shutdown the answer for is, “Why did this happen?”. At the end different services and agencies such as the of 2018, a “GoFundMe” campaign had been Department of Labour and Department of Education established with a goal of raising $1.0 billion in order had to be closed. So, if we were to evaluate the pros and cons of the shutdown the pros are extremely outweighed by the cons. All that this shutdown has caused is further consequences for American citizens, without any clear positive outcome from it. Not even president Trump has achieved his goal of receiving sufficient funding from the government nor his supporters, the only thing that he has brought onto himself is having his name included in the millions of headlines all across domestic and international news outlets. Figure 2: Donald Trump giving a speech What is next for America? It’s time to acknowledge the negative impacts that the president's actions have had on the citizens of the United States. It is time to speak up about this and offer support to the This has not only triggered discussion among political politicians trying to resolve this situation. The voices figures and the public but also among celebrities and opinions of all citizens should all be heard and speaking out about their opinion on the shutdown to taken into consideration instead of being ignored their followers.

  • What's Powering China's Market for Luxury Goods?
What’s Powering China’s Market for Luxury Goods? Sales are growing at a healthy 20% rate, but not all brands are celebrating. This report was authored by Bruno Lannes, a Bain & Company partner based in Shanghai and a member of the firm’s Retail and Consumer Products practices. Copyright © 2019 Bain & Company, Inc. All rights reserved. What’s Powering China’s Market for Luxury Goods? At a Glance It was the second year in a row of 20% growth for luxury goods in China. Brands benefited from repatriated purchases, a focus on millennials, increased digitalization and China’s expanding middle class. Although growth was robust overall, some companies outperformed with growth rates in excess of 25%, while others lagged with less than 10% growth. The winners’ strategies offer clear lessons for the future. China’s luxury goods market is humming along nicely, with a second straight year of 20% growth in 2018 (see Figure 1). Think of it as a powerful machine running on four engines operating in perfect alignment. More than 70% of millennials have a positive financial outlook; 81% of them expect their income to increase. Engine 1: Repatriation The Chinese government’s reduction in import duties and stricter controls over gray markets— combined with brands’ efforts to narrow the price gap with overseas markets—have led more Chi- nese consumers to make their luxury purchases in China, instead of traveling to previous bargain locales such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and cities in Europe. Chinese consumers made 27% of their luxury purchases in China in 2018, up from 23% in 2015, and we anticipate that this share will increase to 50% by 2025 (see Figure 2).

Last updated: October 2, 2020 Chinese Companies Listed on Major U.S. Stock Exchanges This table includes Chinese companies listed on the NASDAQ, New York Stock Exchange, and NYSE American, the three largest U.S. exchanges.1 As of October 2, 2020, there were 217 Chinese companies listed on these U.S. exchanges with a total market capitalization of $2.2 trillion.2 3 Companies are arranged by the size of their market cap. There are 13 national- level Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) listed on the three major U.S. exchanges. In the list below, SOEs are marked with an asterisk (*) next to the stock symbol.4 This list of Chinese companies was compiled using information from the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, commercial investment databases, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). 5 NASDAQ information is current as of February 25, 2019; NASDAQ no longer publicly provides a centralized listing identifying foreign-headquartered companies. For the purposes of this table, a company is considered “Chinese” if: (1) it has been identified as being from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) by the relevant stock exchange; or, (2) it lists a PRC address as its principal executive office in filings with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Of the Chinese companies that list on the U.S. stock exchanges using offshore corporate entities, some are not transparent regarding the primary nationality or location of their headquarters, parent company or executive offices. In other words, some companies which rely on offshore registration may hide or not identify their primary Chinese corporate domicile in their listing information.

Symcox, Co-chair “Exporting Mrs. Consumer: The American Woman in Italian Culture, 1945-1975” examines the development and growth of a mass consumer-based society in Italy after the Second World War. Employing a gendered and transnational approach, the dissertation puts women at the center of the analysis by specifically focusing on American female consumer culture’s influence on Italian women’s lives from 1945-1975. This study, in contrast to existing literature on the topic, provides a more comprehensive understanding of the nature of the models and messages of American female consumer culture in Italy during this period, how they influenced Italian women, and the extent of this culture’s influence. Furthermore, the analysis of the intersection of the modern “American woman” (the white middle-class suburban American ii housewife), consumerism, and Italian female culture and identities provides new insight into the unique cultural relationship between the United States and Italy following the Second World War.

  • Dolce & Gabbana's Communication and Branding Analysis
FACE Business Case Dolce & Gabbana’s Communication and Branding Analysis Il presente lavoro è stato redatto grazie al contributo degli studenti del corso di Laurea Magistrale in Fashion Communication: Cristiana Avolio, Federica Fancinelli, Valentina Foschi, Veronica Rimondi e Camilla Tosi 1 The work aims to analyze the communication strategies of Dolce&Gabbana, one of the most famous brands on a national and international level, that has been able to create, within a varied audience, a global strong recognition. The fashion company was founded in 1985 by two designers: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. 1. Zeitgeist and social context The inspiration of the designers Stefano Dolce and Domenico Gabbana comes from Sicily and the post-war neo-realist filmography, a land of perfumes and mysteries, a precious treasure chest of memories from which derive motifs destined to characterize each new collection. Surely their point of strength and recognition, both in lingerie and tailoring, is the black lace, a symbol of rigor and feminine sensuality; in fact the woman of Dolce & Gabbana, in balance between the modest and uninhibited, embodies the woman of our time with a strong and fragile personality at the same time, a concrete woman but also a dreamer. Protagonists of the fashion shows and the advertising campaigns are often the icon of the typical Italian beauty as: Bianca Balti, Monica Bellucci, Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Bianca Brandolini d'Adda. The Mediterranean woman becomes the point of reference and the muse of the two designers who highlight her shapes and her strong personality. For example, the bustier, as a synonymous for excellence of femininity that women, of all ages, have always used to outline and emphasize their bodies, recurs frequently in the brand pictures.

Dolce & Gabbana For release: Dec 4, 2018. Milan, Italy Contact: Alexandria Hawthorne Phone: (347)756-1655 DOLCE & GABBANA REPLACES MILLENNIALS WITH DRONES FOR FALL 2018 Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will be launching their Fall collection on Dec 4, 2018 in Milan, Italy. Get ready to experience a different level of runway at Sala delle Cariatidi @ Palazzo Reale. This season, design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana make a declaration of love to the industry with a Fall 2018 collection entitled Fashion Devotion. Catholic motifs are intrinsic to the Italian house, and for Fall 2018, Dolce and Gabbana is keen to give guests a deeper religious experience, with a show that will present fashion as a form of religion filled with angelic looks, sequined dresses with cherubs and mini-skirts with detailing that might as well have been taken from church ceilings, and bejewelled cross necklaces. Dolce & Gabbana’s identity is a mix of devotion, sheer creativity, religion, style and irony…The collection has it all, it’s an interesting play of contrasts. It pays tribute to pop culture icons, but also religion and the world of Catholicism. Dolce & Gabbana wants to celebrate their passion for fashion, which is their religion in a way. On the other hand, celebrate beauty, the ultimate “artifice” of fashion. Drones are the new angels of technology! This runway show is also meant as an homage to Dolce & Gabbana’s love for technology. ### Dolce & Gabbana was founded in 1985 by designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana in Milan. Five years before the launch of the legendary Italian label, the two designers met in a workshop in Venice where they joined creative forces.

Entering the vast private salon of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana on the top floor of their global Lheadquarters on a grim autumn day in Milan is like stepping on to a catwalk at one of their famously flamboyant shows. There’s an explosion of colour and a chaotic blend of classic Italian tradition with their own cutting edge inspired by the 60s, 70s and plenty of other eras as well. The walls are covered in crimson brocade and there’s more than a hint of art deco but perhaps most surprising are the floor- to-ceiling bookshelves filled with tributes to rivals such as Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford and Christian Dior. Yet this brash remake of the corporate boardroom seems a perfect introduction to the style icons who created Dolce & Gabbana nearly 30 years ago.
