Our Fellows work on a wide range of issues from protecting economic and social rights, to addressing climate change, LGBTI rights and human trafficking. Building the Global Pro Bono Community PILnet is leading the way in a global effort to build pro bono communities locally in order to strengthen civil society and ensure access to justice. PILnet has linked together a global network of pro bono clearinghouses – including its own pioneering initiatives in Asia, Europe and West Africa – which connect law firms and corporations as pro bono service providers with NGOs and individuals in need of legal assistance. Further, PILnet widens and deepens the global pro bono community through convening annual Pro Bono Forums in Europe and Asia bringing together the key actors in those regions.     Words that hurt Hate speech in Italy on 2018 Edited by Final report June 5 2019 This report has been written in the framework of Words are stones project Background This national report has been produced in the framework of Words are stones project, coordinated by Lunaria (I) in partnership with Adice (F), Antigone (GR), Grenzelos (A), Kisa (CY) and Sos Racisme (S). Nationalist, populist and xenophobic movements which instrumentally mix euroscepticism, intolerance, hate and racism in order to increase their consent in public opinion represent a danger for the construction of a democratic, united, cohesive and peaceful European society. The public debate is crossed by stereotypes and prejudices targeting immigrants and refugees that often degenerate in racist offenses and attacks. In this context, Words are stones aims to: • analyze political discourses that exacerbate xenophobia, intolerance and discriminations against migrants, refugees and minorities crossing the public debate; • enhance civil society organizations, European citizens and institutions capacity to prevent and respond to hate speech; • involve European youth in campaigns countering hate speech • sensitize European politicians promote intercultural dialogue, human rights protection and a pacific coexistence among nationals and people coming from other countries. Six national reports will be produced in all partners’ countries. The main results will be compared and summarized in an international report. This report has been produced with the financial support of the Europe for Citizens Program of the European Union. Kercher shared this residence with a young American woman by the name of Amanda Knox as well as two young Italian women. Within a matter of days, authorities had detained multiple suspects on the grounds that Meredith Kercher had been the victim of a murder. Among the alleged involved parties was Knox herself. What followed for Knox was a contentious and lengthy legal battle spanning some four years. Knox and her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito would remain in prison with little recourse other than to abide by the legal ramifications of their position. Knox in particular found herself in a dangerous, unfamiliar and frightening situation. Her eventual exoneration and release in the fall of 2011 was an event I personally witnessed alongside several hundred onlookers outside a nondescript Italian courthouse on a chilly fall evening in the quaint hill city of Perugia. Sentiments ranged from quiet vindication of a young girl’s innocence to vocal outrage at the liberation of an accessory to murder.

The co-creation process can continue to improve through early and ongoing dialogue between government and civil society. The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a global partnership that brings together government reformers and civil society leaders to create action plans that make governments more inclusive, responsive, and accountable. The Independent Reporting Mechanism (IRM) monitors all action plans to ensure governments follow through on commitments. Italy joined OGP in 2011. Since, Italy has implemented three action plans.
