Despite intense debate over a number of years, auteurist notions in film studies persist and critical attention continues to centre on the director as the sole giver of meaning to a film. -

It analyses research patterns and identifies instances of parallel developments in the two fields, which have operated until recently in relative isolation from one another, shrouded and disconnected. It outlines a framework for engagement between Latin American history and global history, focusing particularly on the significant transformations of the understudied nineteenth-century. It suggests that both global history and Latin American history will benefit from recognition of the existing work that has pioneered a path between the two, and from enhanced and sustained dialogue. -

Transmutation in Lavoura Arcaica: from romance to the film / Transmutação em Lavoura Arcaica: do romance ao filme Tânia Regina Montanha Toledo Scoparo* ABSTRACT We externate, in this article, the possibilities of dialogues between literature and cinema, in the work Lavoura Arcaica, by Raduan Nassar (1975) and Luiz Fernando Carvalho (2001), respectively. We read some fragments in both works, novel and film, demonstrating the meaning production process, with a higher focus on film transmutation, comparing them. We describe how Carvalho constructed the film based on Nassar’s book. We expose the reading of the film by the communication theory, more specifically, by the use of cinematographic language as a meaning producer for the construction of the film; so that, an analysis of the narrator, characters, time, space, plot; as the text reveals the central character of the narrative, its dramas, its passions. Thus,we select some sequences of images which are considered by us very important to carry out the analysis and for the purpose of the work: film transmutation. The Only Defense Is Excess: Translating and Surpassing Hollywood’S Conventions to Establish a Relevant Mexican Cinema”*
ANAGRAMAS - UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN “The Only Defense is Excess: Translating and Surpassing Hollywood’s Conventions to Establish a Relevant Mexican Cinema”* Paula Barreiro Posada** Recibido: 27 de enero de 2011 Aprobado: 4 de marzo de 2011 Abstract Mexico is one of the countries which has adapted American cinematographic genres with success and productivity. This country has seen in Hollywood an effective structure for approaching the audience. With the purpose of approaching national and international audiences, Meximo has not only adopted some of Hollywood cinematographic genres, but it has also combined them with Mexican genres such as “Cabaretera” in order to reflect its social context and national identity. The Melodrama and the Film Noir were two of the Hollywood genres which exercised a stronger influence on the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. Influence of these genres is specifically evident in style and narrative of the film Aventurera (1949). This film shows the links between Hollywood and Mexican cinema, displaying how some Hollywood conventions were translated and reformed in order to create its own Mexican Cinema. Most countries intending to create their own cinema have to face Hollywood influence. This industry has always been seen as a leading industry in technology, innovation, and economic capacity, and as the Nemesis of local cinema. This case study on Aventurera shows that Mexican cinema reached progress until exceeding conventions of cinematographic genres taken from Hollywood, creating stories which went beyond the local interest. Key words: cinematographic genres, melodrama, film noir, Mexican cinema, cabaretera. -
Chespirito" Surge De La Imaginación Del Director De Cine Sr
