The challenges are daunting and could crush the new-found hope that could change their lives. We know they can become more than they have been, they can be successful, and we can help. Not a real college – Across the CSU system, the majority of students graduating with a BA/BS degree each year started at a California Community College (53 percent) and GWC transfers a high number of students to CSUs each year. In the UC system, about one third of all BS/BA degree recipients started at a California Community College as well. We think the first two years of college are foundational – they help students learn to persevere, to take classes they may not have known they needed in order to do better in those they will need. We know we teach them as well or better than anybody – and that is how we can help. Thank you for your generosity in supporting our students. You must have a sense of the important role Golden West College has in providing quality educational opportunities to the people of this community. That is why you have helped us help them. That is why it gives me pleasure to thank you for your generosity. I know this spring, when I shake the hands of students graduating with an AA degree, or getting a Certificate of Achievement in the career field of their choice, that you helped make graduation happen and that, without you, we could not help them help themselves and their families, their employers, and our community.
