Number of races: There are 9 races announced - according to MO 10.1, 10.2., with a striker with more than five valid races. There are no final races. Last start possibility: Friday 27th 2019 – 05:00 pm 3 General rules, sailing instructions 1. Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 RRS Appendix P, special procedures for rule 42, will apply. 1.3 RRS Appendix T, arbitration, will apply. 1.4 If there is a conflict between languages, German language take precedence for the "Prescriptions for Racing of the DSV", the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, in all other cases the English text takes precedence. 2. Notices to competitors 2.1 The notice board is located on the east side of the club house at the terrace. Messages for all participants are posted at the notice board 3 Changes to sailing instructions 3.1 Changes of the sailing instructions are announced latest one hour before the standby of that day, if they become valid. Changes in the time schedule are announced latest at 8 pm of the day before. 4. Signals made ashore 4.1 Signals on land are placed at the flag mast of the dinghy house. 4.2 In addition to hoisting the Flag „D“ on land, the departure of the launch vessel is indicated by a horn signal. 4.3 When flag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1 minute’ is replaced with ‘not less than 30 minutes’ in the race signal AP. This changes Race Signal AP. 5. Schedule of races 5.1 Date of the races Racing days are Tuseday, September 24th Wednesday September 25th Thursday September 26th Friday September 27th 5.2 The starting signal fort the first race of the day is on 24th of September at 01:05 pm and will be posted for the following days on the official notice board. 5.3 There will be no warning signal after 27th September 05:00 pm. 5.4 To alert boats that a race or sequence of races will begin soon, the orange starting line flag will be displayed with one sound at least five minutes before the warning signal is made. 6. Class flag 6.1 The class flag is white flag with the “O-Jollen” logo. 7. Courses 7.1 The diagrams in Attachment Courses shows the courses, including the order in which the marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark has to be left. 8. Marks, Starting line and finishing line 8.1 The marks will be tetrahedron-shaped and yellow without flags. 8.2 The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the starting vessel and the read buoy 8.3 The finishing line is between a staff displaying a blue flag on a boat of the race committee and an orange buoy. 8.4 When a mark of a gate is missing, the remaining mark shall be left on port. 8.5 Replacement mark are white. 9. Changes of the course 9.1 To change a leg of the course the RC will bring a replacement mark in the new position and remove the original mark as soon as practicable. For a subsequent change the original mark will be used. 9.2 When the position of the windward mark will be changed, the offset mark will not be used. 4 10. Penalty system 10.1 WR 44.1 und WR P2.2 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. 11. Time limit and set time 11.1 The target time is 60 minutes. Failure to meet the target time will not be grounds for redress. This changes rule 62.1(a). 11.2 The time limit for the first boot is 90 minutes. 12. Identification 12.1 Only the sail numbers of the entry list shall be used. 13. (DP) Equipment and measurement checks 13.1 A boat or the equipment can be inspected at any time for compliance with the class regulations and sailing instructions by the technical committee. 13.2 On the water, a boat can be instructed by a member of the race committee or the technical committee to proceed immediately to a designated area for inspection. 14. (DP) Replacement of crew or equipment 14.1 Substitution of damaged or lost equipment is only with approval of the race committee allowed. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity. 15. (DP) Advertising 15.1 Advertising according to ISAF Regulation 20 is permitted. The participating boats are obliged to offer selected and placed advertising in the bow area. 16. Scoring 16.1 For the validity of the championship, 4 races are required (MO 10.2) 16.2 If 4 or less races are sailed, all will be judged. When 5 or more races have been completed, a boats score will be the total of her race scores excluding the worst score. 17. Official boats 11.1 Jury boats are marked with “J” on white flag. Race committee boats (other than the starting vessel): code flag “W” 18. (DP) Support boats 18.1 Team leaders, coaches and other supporting personnel must affix the marking issued by the organizer to the boat and inform them in writing of the boats they are supporting. They must keep a distance of 150 meters from the race area from the time of the preparation signal for the first starting class until all the boats have passed through the finish line or the WFLs have been terminated elsewhere by the by the race committee. Except for this distance requirement are inserts for recovery in case of capsizing or a boat's failure, as long as the boat or the race committee requires assistance. Failure to comply may lead to the punishment of the supervised boats. 19. (DP) Radio Communication 19.1 Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 20. Protests and request for redress 20.1 Protest forms are available at the office of the race committee 20.2 The protest time limit is 60 after the last boat has finished the last race of the day or the race committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later. 20.3 Notices will be posted no longer than 30 minutes after the protest time limit.to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named witnesses. Hearings can be scheduled in that way, that they can start before the protest period ends. Hearings take place in the offices of the Jury. 5 20.4 Notices of the race committee, technical committee or protest committee will be posted to inform the boats under rule 61.1(b). 20.5 A list of boats that have been penalized under RRS Appendix P for breaking RRS 42 will be posted. 20.6 Penalties for breaches of rules in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions marked [DP], can be less than a DSQ at the discretion of the international jury. 20.7 On the last day of the event a request to reopen of a hearing shall be lodged: a) within the protest time limit when the requesting party was informed in the day before. b) not later than 30 minutes after the party, which is reopening, was informed about this decision. This changes WR 66. 20.8 On the last day of racing, a request for redress on behalf of a decision of the protest committee shall be lodged within 30 minutes after the protest decision has been given. This changes RRS 62.2. 21. Arbitration RRS Appendix T 21.1 RRS T Appendix is changed: The Post Race Penalty is a 30% Scoring Penalty. 21.2 The arbitrator may be a member of the Protest Committee. 22. Security instructions 22.1 A boat that retires from a race shall inform the race committee or race office as soon as practicable. (Phone No.:+49 8806-7634) 22.2 If on an official boat code N over H is shown, all boats shall come back to the harbor as fast as possible and wait for new notices. 22.3 When Strong Wind Warning (orange light fire with 45 flashes/min) is to be seen, everybody has to wear Personal Flotation Device. 22.4 When Storm Warning (orange light fire with 90 flashes/min) is to be seen the race will be abandoned if no boat has finished the race. If some boats have finished already the race the RC may abandon the race by putting down the code blue with 3 sound signals.

IDENTIFICATION 2.1 Boats shall display bow numbers as in the Class Rules. The organizing authority will supply the numbers and instructions for their use. 2.2 Each day, the first, second and third boats in series ranking at the beginning of the day shall display a yellow, blue and red bib on the crew respectively. In addition, the organizing authority may require a colour dot to be applied to the mainsail. The organizing authority will supply the numbers, the bibs and colour dots and instructions for their use. 2.3 While racing, each boat shall display a colour ribbon corresponding to the fleet to which she has been assigned. The ribbon shall be fixed to the top of her mast. At the registration each crew will receive a set of coloured ribbons.

Its contents show the development, charm and beauty of FD sailing; with a review of events, trophies, results and the role past champions . Included are the IFDCO Foundation Rules and its byelaws which describe how the structure of the Class operate . Moreover, 2002 was the 50th Anniversary of the FD birth: 50 years of technical deve- lopment, success and fame all over the world and of Class life is a particular event. This new edition of the Class Book is a good chance to celebrate the jubilee, to represent the FD evolution and the future prospects in the third millennium. The Class Book intends to charm and induce us to know and to be involved in the Class life. Please, let me assent to remember and to express my admiration for Conrad Gulcher: if we sail, love FD and enjoyed for more than 50 years, it is because Conrad conceived such a wonderful dinghy and realized his dream, launching FD in 1952. Conrad, looked to the future with an excellent far-sightedness, conceived a “high-perfor- mance dinghy”, which still represents a model of technologic development, fashionable 3 water-line, low minimum hull weight and performance . Conrad ‘s approach to a continuing development of FD, with regard to materials, fitting and rigging evolution, was basic for the FD success.

Leaving the harbor, all boats must remain west (right) of the Hyannis Harbor Channel. c. Returning to the harbor, all boats shall sail to the west (left) of the Hyannis Harbor Channel. d. In the vicinity of Dunbar Point there will be two (2) inflatable buoys set as a gate. BOATS SHALL NOT FLY SPINNAKERS AFTER PASSING THROUGH THE GATE WHEN RETURNING TO THE HARBOR. e. In the case of excess or commercial traffic in the channel area, Patrol Boats may direct competitors to remain in the area of the gate.

    420 Tuning suggestions College of Charleston 2012 Boat Setup on land: 1) Before sailing check that your shroud pin/ring dings are taped and secure, your tiller extension universal is solid, there’s no wiggle in your pintles and your hiking straps knots secure. 2) Tie your main halyard to the head of your main with a figure eight through the headboard grommet and then a half hitch back around the halyard. (see picture) 3) Hoist your jib and tension the rig tightly by placing a foot on the bow and pulling on the head stay while your team mate tensions the jib halyard. Don’t be afraid to over tension at this point as you’ll double check and most likely reset the tension once on the water. It’s easier to loosen once sailing than to tighten it! 4) Hoist your main and tension the halyard tightly. Use the 2:1 purchase to sock it up tight to the top of the mast. Again, it’s much easier to set it up tight on the dock than to rehoist once sailing! Set up on the water, before the start: 1) Trim your sails and head upwind. 2) Watch/study your leeward shroud as it is your guide to proper rig tension (through jib halyard tension). 3) Ideally the leeward shroud will just start to slacken to the point a slight wiggle (not more than ½”) is visible when the main is sheeted to maximum trim for the breeze/conditions at that time. Note: The advantage of using the “leeward shroud wiggle” is that you can gauge the amount of tension based on a given condition.

    Laser and 420 Class Summer 2021 Series 1. Rules: The Series will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the Procedural and Class Rules for Intercollegiate Sailing Competition (PR) (except as any of these are changed by these Sailing Instructions), and by these Sailing Instructions (SI). 2. Entries: Eligible contestants for either the Laser or 420 fleets will sign up via the links listed on the Little Traverse Sailors website. 3. Notices to Competitors: Notices to Competitors will be conveyed prior to evening racing to contestants through the fleet email or at the LTS dock. 4. Changes in the Sailing Instructions: Any change in the Sailing Instructions will be communicated before 1730 on the day it will take effect. Other changes may be made to expedite the running of the event if Judges approve and all competitors are notified before the race in which the change would take effect. 5. Schedule of Races: Monday Laser First Warning for 1st race: 1800. Warning for subsequent races will be sounded as soon as possible after a reasonable amount of time is given for boats to finish. Starts will not be delayed. Thursday 420 First Warning for 1st race: 1800. Warning for subsequent races will be sounded as soon as possible after a reasonable amount of time is given for boats to finish. Starts will not be delayed. It is expected, assuming reasonable conditions, to complete at least three races per night of racing. 6. Personal Flotation: Life Jackets are to be worn by all competitors and must be Coast Guard approved.
