2012 INTERNATIONAL 420 CLASS JUNIOR EUROPEANS Riva del Garda, Italy 9th - 17th August SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Organising Authority: Fraglia Vela Riva in conjunction with Federazione Italiana Vela UNIQUA Italia International 420 Class Association 1. RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by: a. The “Rules” as defined in the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). b. The ISAF Equipment Racing Rules of Sailing. c. The Equipment Inspection Instructions. 1.2 No national authority prescriptions will apply. 1.3 Appendix P, Special Procedures for Rule 42, will apply. 1.4 Charter Boats - According to RRS App. G rule G3, "a boat chartered or loaned for an event may carry national letters or a sail number in contravention of her class rules". 1.5 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 2. IDENTIFICATION 2.1 Boats shall display bow numbers as in the Class Rules. The organizing authority will supply the numbers and instructions for their use. 2.2 Each day, the first, second and third boats in series ranking at the beginning of the day shall display a yellow, blue and red bib on the crew respectively. In addition, the organizing authority may require a colour dot to be applied to the mainsail. The organizing authority will supply the numbers, the bibs and colour dots and instructions for their use. 2.3 While racing, each boat shall display a colour ribbon corresponding to the fleet to which she has been assigned. The ribbon shall be fixed to the top of her mast. At the registration each crew will receive a set of coloured ribbons. -

LSC Sunfish Manual A guide to the use of Sunfish Sailboats Owned by the Lansing Sailing Club Version 1.1-20070806 Goals of this Manual are to help members understand • Who can use Club Sunfish • When they can be used • Where to find things • How to rig • De-rigging • How to put the boats away Who can use a Club Sunfish? • Anyone in a Member Family – Having LSC “Basic Sailing” Certification and – Having LSC “Sunfish” Certification or Learning to sail under the instruction of an adult member who holds “Basic Sailing” and “Sunfish” Certification • A Guest of a Member Family – Under the supervision of an adult member holding “Basic Sailing” and “Sunfish” Certification When Can a Club Sunfish be Used? • Only in safe wind and weather conditions. Use in winds over approximately 12 mph requires advanced certification, supervision of a LSC instructor or special permission of the Club Boat Director. • For Junior Sailors, an adult must be present on shore and the adult must be capable of acting in an emergency to assist the Junior Sailor. • Use is on a “first come – first sail” basis. • Sunfish can be reserved for special functions by contacting the Club Boat Director sufficiently in advance to permit notice to other Club Members in a e-Sheet (usually at least a week). Where to Find Things • Boats – There are three Club Sunfish. LSC 1 is kept in parking spot 402. LSC 2 in parking spot 403 and LSC 3 in parking spot 411. – Each boat is marked somewhere on the hull, usually on the side toward the front, or on the deck at the bow. -

NORTH SAILS MAST FURLING INSTALLATION GUIDE Congratulations on purchasing your new North Mast Furling Mainsail. This guide is intended to help better understand the key construction elements, usage and installation of your sail. If you have any questions after reading this document and before installing your sail, please contact your North Sails representative. It is best to have two people installing the sail which can be accomplished in less than one hour. Your boat needs facing directly into the wind and ideally the wind speed should be less than 8 knots. Step 1 Unpack your Sail Begin by removing your North Sails Purchasers Pack including your Quality Control and Warranty information. Reserve for future reference. Locate and identify the battens (if any) and reserve for installation later. Step 2 Attach the Mainsail Tack Begin by unrolling your mainsail on the side deck from luff to leech. Lift the mainsail tack area and attach to your tack fitting. Your new Mast Furling mainsail incorporates a North Sails exclusive Rope Tack. This feature is designed to provide a soft and easily furled corner attachment. The sail has less patching the normal corner, but has the Spectra/Dyneema rope splayed and sewn into the sail to proved strength. Please ensure the tack rope is connected to a smooth hook or shackle to ensure durability and that no chafing occurs. NOTE: If your mainsail has a Crab Claw Cutaway and two webbing attachment points – Please read the Stowaway Mast Furling Mainsail installation guide. Step 2 www.northsails.com Step 3 Attach the Mainsail Clew Lift the mainsail clew to the end of the boom and run the outhaul line through the clew block. -

At the highest level of the sport where everyone has the best equipment, crew contribution is the deciding factor. Developing and maintaining an enthusiastic, competent, reliable, and compatible crew is therefore a key area of focus for the racer aspiring to excellent results. Prior to the Class Championship you should have your crew set up, with assigned positions and job responsibilities – well trained in tacking, jibing, roundings and starts. The following may help you set up your program to attract good crew. First, good sailors want to do well. So do everything you can to make sure that you understand how to make the boat go fast and do everything you can to ensure that your boat is in good racing condition (more on these two issues later). If you are a helmsman make sure that your driving skills are developed to your best abilities. Assemble sailors who are better than you or find an enthusiastic non-sailor to train and encourage. Arrange practice time either pre/post-race or on a non-racing day. The right type of crew personality will want to improve performance and the best way to do this is to spend time together in the boat. If your crew does not wish to make the effort to spend time in the boat, cast a wider net. -

470 Rigging Instructions 1. Stepping the mast up. a. Ensure the mast partner slit is open. b. With the boat on the grass, step inside (clean or remove shoes first!), and receive the mast. i. Ensure the heel of the mast is clean. ii. If continuous jib sheet, ensure around the mast slot. c. Place the heel of the mast in the shoe inside the boat d. Lean the mast forward, against the deck. e. Free the forestay and attach it. f. Free the shrouds and trapeze, ensure not twisted, and attach them. g. Free the other controls (vang, cunningham, spinnaker halyard, topping lift, down haul), ensure not twisted and attach them. h. Close the mast partner slit. 2. Rigging the boat a. Attach the tack and head of the jib. b. Run the foot of the main sail through the boom, attach the clew and tack. i. On some boats the tack can only be attached after the boom is secured in the gooseneck. ii. On some of the boats it is easier to hoist the mainsail and latch its halyard first, and only then attach the gooseneck and the tack. c. Attach the all 3 ends of the spinnaker and bag it. i. Note: the spinnaker lines should be the outermost, while its halyard stays close to the mast (between the jib lines). ii. Ensure the halyards are not twisted. d. Hoist the jib and attach the halyard cable loop to the tensioner hook. i. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure the hook catches the metal cable loop and not the messenger line!!! e. -

If at any point we can assist you, please call 800 433 4080 Fair Winds International Marine Standing Rigging The mast is a 2” aluminum extrusion with a slot on the aft side to which the sail’s boltrope or mainsail slides (options item) enter when hoisting the main sail. Attached to the mast will be two side stays, called Shrouds, and a Forestay. These three stainless cables represent the standing rigging of the West Wight Potter 15. The attachment points for the shroud adjusters are on the side of the deck. Looking at the boat you will find ¼” U-Bolts mounted through the deck on either side of the boat and the adjuster goes over these U-Bolts. Once the shroud adjuster slides in, the clevis pin inserts through the adjuster and is held in place with a lock ring. When both side stays are in place we move onto the mast raising. Mast Raising First, remove the mast pin holding the mast base in the bow pulpit. Second, move the mast back towards the mast step on the cabin top of the boat and pin the mast base into the aft section of the mast step (the mast step is bolted onto the cabin top of the boat). The mast crutch on the transom of the boat will support the aft end of the mast. -

INTERNATIONAL OK DINGHY MEASUREMENT FORM Boat Details Country Code Official Sail Number World Sailing Plaque Number Authority: OK Dinghy International Association The OK Dinghy was designed in 1957 by Knud Olsen and was adopted as an International Class in 1972. NOTES GENERAL 1. This measurement form should be completed in conjunction with the OK Dinghy Class Rules and the Equipment Rules of Sailing. 2. The builder shall pay the current building fee to the National OK Dinghy Association (or OKDIA if there is no NCA or the NCA does not want to administer) which shall issue a building fee receipt and World Sailing plaque to the builder. 3. The owner or builder shall apply to the owner's certification authority for a sail number, enclosing the building fee receipt, and may at the same time submit the proposed name of the boat. 4. This measurement form, when completed, shall be submitted by the owner to his certification authority together with any required certification fee. 5. The builder shall sign the declaration to certify that the hull has been built in accordance with the class rules and the measurement form TO THE MEASURER(S) 1. An official measurer recognised by their certification authority shall carry out certification control and record all the measurements on this form. 2. If the official measurer feels the slightest doubt concerning the accuracy or compliance with the class rules of any part of the hull, they shall report it on the measurement form and send it to the certification authority. 3. The boat shall conform to all the class rules, even if some of the rules are not mentioned on the measurement form.
