Kharkiv National Medical University ()

Kharkiv National Medical University is the oldest medical higher educational institution in Ukraine. It was founded in 1804 as the medical faculty of the Kharkiv Imperial University, renamed Kharkiv Medical Institute in 1920 and Kharkiv State Medical University in 1994. Today it is Kharkiv National Medical University, which has about 8,000 students, half of them - foreign students. KhNMU is a modern multi-type educational establishment with its powerful scientific, material and technical basis, which includes: 8 faculties, 70 departments, 6 educational and research production units; 2 research institutes, such as the Research Institute of Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Diseases of KhNMU and the Ukrainian Institute of Clinical Genetics of KhNMU; the University Dental Centre and the University Clinic as the medical, educational and scientific units of KhNMU; the Medical College of KhNMU.

Cooperation opportunities

KhNMU is aimed at enhancing her international cooperation worldwide in such scientific and educational areas as.

• supporting the development of collaborative activities between higher educational institions and KhNMU; • promotion of the students and academic staff mobility programs; • encouraging the exchange of teaching methodologies during the practice at the university’s medical clinics; • stimulation of the development of innovative technologies at the University.

The University provides bachelor’s degree (Nursing, Technologies of Medical Diagnostics and Treatment, Physical Rehabilitation, Social Work), master’s degree (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Technologies of Medical Diagnostics and Treatment, Public Management and Administration, Education Science), and postgraduate education (Clinical Residency, Professional Advancement Courses, PhD). Advantages of KhNMU are the number and variety of clinical bases, where students can study and work. In total, KhNMU has 69 clinical bases throughout the city and the region. Among them are hospitals, large medical centres, and private clinics.

International activities

The main international activities of the university are:

- educational services for foreign students; - participation in international grants programs, conferences, seminars, symposiums; - cooperation with foreign institutions; - development of international academic and scientific mobility, participation in international educational and scientific programs; - intensification of international projects among University departments and implementation of international projects; - introducing a distance learning courses for individual disciplines in order to attract foreign students at KNMU; - activation of research work with foreign universities KNMU co-partners aimed to development and introduction into the educational process with double diplomas; - grants opportunities for the participation of students and teachers in international educational programs, including internships; - coordination of the University activities for the development and implementation of international agreements and agreements.

The KhNMU cooperates today in the field of medicine and medical education with lots of foreign universities and organizations, including higher education institutions from Azerbaijan, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Republic of Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
