Job Title: Constituency Organiser

Responsible to: Chair, Holborn and St Pancras CLP

Location: CLP Office, 7-9 Crowndale Road, NW1

Key purpose: The Local Organiser will be responsible for all aspects of Labour Party organisation within the CLP.

The post holder will be responsible for building and maintaining party organisation and activity: preparing the CLP for any upcoming elections; establishing an effective election and campaign organisation; developing the membership; and co-ordinating an effective programme of fundraising to ensure that the constituency party is on a sound financial footing. They will work in liaison with the CLP Officers, the MP, Holborn and St Pancras Labour councillors, the local Party branches, Regional Organiser and other units within the Party.

Specific Responsibilities:

Campaigning

• To work with the CLP Officers, the CLP VC Campaigns, the LCF, Labour local councillors and candidates, and MP to motivate and organise the members in preparation for any upcoming elections. • To lead and organise campaigning activity as determined by the CLP. • To continually develop campaigning capacity by encouraging members to become activists and ensuring that there is a programme of regular welcoming, informative, productive and enjoyable campaigning sessions. • To provide training to members on election techniques, collecting suitable material for newsletters, voter i/d (doorstep and telephone), registration and postal votes. • To identify campaign leaders and provide training and support to campaign leaders and members on organising and campaigning. • To be a capable Election Agent. • To support participation in regional and national campaigning activity and building links with other CLPs in line with Labour Party and local campaign priorities.

Fundraising

• To develop and lead local fundraising activity as determined by the CLP to ensure the CLP has adequate funding to organise, campaign and contest elections, and to support a staffed CLP office. • To develop and support fund raising efforts in the branches, providing additional support where needed. • To co-ordinate fund- raising efforts so that the CLP has a coherent programme of activity throughout the year.

Membership

• To develop membership activity in the constituency in line with the Party's aims and objectives. Ensuring the CLP welcomes new members and members transferring in from other areas and has a range of activities that engages its existing membership. • To develop and sustain communications systems with branches, members and other units of the party and affiliated organisations in the area to promote Labour's achievements and Party activities. • To sustain weekly communications between MP, Councillors, the CLP officers and local party members. • To support and advise CLP and Branch officers in their roles. • To recruit, train and supervise volunteers in campaigning, fundraising and office functions. • To plan and organise policy events and discussions for the CLP and co-ordinate with the MP's constituency office on wider public engagement visits and events. • To oversee the CLP website and social media activity. • To provide administrative support to and to assist in the running of CLP general meetings as required.

In addition:

• To manage and run an efficient CLP office, ensuring the office is fully equipped, the CLP’s assets are maintained and that there are systems in place to ensure efficient use of resources. • To manage the CLP office so that it is a welcoming place for volunteers and enquiries from the public and members are responded to promptly. • To work with the Regional Communications Officer where appropriate. • To report on the level of all activity, organisation and the effective operation of Party rules in the area to the relevant Regional Organiser or the Regional Director where appropriate.

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of how to engage and organise communities • Understanding of how to talk to and engage a range of people from volunteers to the MP and councillors • Campaigning techniques using a range of different channels • How to run fundraising campaigns • How to run an election campaign • How to use and maximise the benefit of CRM systems • Understanding of the Labour Party organisation at branch, constituency and national level • Understanding of Labour Party policy and development

Desirable • Knowledge of the Labour Party constitution. • Knowledge of Labour Party campaign and membership tools including Contact Creator and Organise • Political fundraising on a constituency level • Knowledge of policy making • Knowledge of current local issues in Camden

Experience

Essential

• Proven ability to organise and engage diverse communities • Proven ability to run successful campaigns which have achieved change • Experience of data collection and analysis • Track record of raising funds for a similar organisation • A track record of writing concisely and accurately for various media including leaflets, e- newsletters, websites and social media • Experience of recruiting, training and managing a diverse range of volunteers • Experience of writing and designing campaign material including leaflets • Working with others to run an election or referendum campaign • Managing a website and social media accounts

Desirable

• Some experience of casework or similar

• Strong communication skills, able to communicate with, work with and engage and lead a range of people from different backgrounds and of different ages • Good interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team • Excellent editorial skills • Proven ability to generate and manage print and social media content • Possessing good IT skills, able to use to best advantage the suite of Microsoft Office packages • Ability to run a well-organised office • Able to plan, manage and progress more than one project at a time, and bring projects to completion to a good standard and on time • Capable of working on one’s own initiative while being fully aware of the constraints in which you operate • Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and to travel within the Constituency.
