Not surprising, as it has been newly refurbished the environment was exceptional, the table layout, cutlery, serviets etc exemplary and the service attentive. The menu, which you can see on their web site, gave an agreeable range of dishes without being overbearing. The food was most enjoyable and the wine list provided more than adequate choices of reasonably priced bottles. I'd strongly recommend this venue. Further to my report in last month’s issue our new Area Officers have responded to over 1000 reports of graffiti, litter, overgrown footpaths all over the district. They have also helped organise several community litter picks. The good work will continue in 2019 so don’t be shy in reporting untidy areas by contacting your Ward District Councillors We are also coming down heavily on fly tipping and recently heavy fines were imposed on two individuals to whom we traced the source of illegal dumping. A woman who let her garden pile up with rubbish just months after the council had to clear it has been handed fines and costs of more than £1,500. We have traced a further incident back to a resident who received a heavy fine for paying someone to clear rubbish which was subsequently fly tipped. If you do wish to have rubbish removed please insure that you ask for sight of the contractor’s license, authorised contractors will not mind you asking. Helping businesses Eighteen local businesses have taken the first steps to secure funding to help them grow and create more jobs. Businesses in east and central Folkestone which employ fewer than 250 people were invited to apply for grants available through Folkestone Community Works programme, which is managed by Folkestone & Hythe District Council 19 Morrisons Cheriton We were all pleased to see the temporary Morrisons store open in time for Christmas following the devastating fire. Our officers worked diligently to help with the planning process to enable this to happen Seasonal activities There have been numerous Christmas fairs throughout the District not least of which was the annual one in Georges Barn and two of my grandchildren particularly enjoyed the neighbouring winter themed train ride.at the Elham Valley Line Trust. On that note may I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year. Cllr David Godfrey Cabinet Member for Special Projects Over 55? this blog site might just be for you Guest writers welcome 20 From your County Councillor At our County Council meeting on 13 December we received a report on the preparations being made for Kent to deal with possible impacts of Brexit. There have been some startling headlines in the local media about what’s in the report and I will simply say that whilst hoping for the best we must plan for the worst. Whatever happens with Brexit, it has been enormously helpful to have so many people looking at how best to deal with the consequences to Kent of disruption to Cross Channel traffic. In 2015 Kent was severely impacted by industrial action in France and the same could easily happen again Brexit or not. Whilst the roadworks on the M20 and A2/ M2 have been disruptive in themselves, the finished work will allow for a much better response should an emergency occur in future. Kent Police, Highways England and the Government have been working with KCC on plans of what to do in scenarios of varying seriousness and this will stand us in good stead. The plans also spread far more of the waiting traffic to other parts of the County and should keep the M20 open. You can see the report on the council website and also watch the debate in which I spoke about Sellindge in the archive of webcasts. You may also have seen media reports that Kent Highways is not doing vital road repairs between 01 February and 30 April because of Brexit. This isn’t quite true. Kent Highways is, sensibly in my view, telling utility companies that non-urgent works will not be permitted on key parts of our road network such as the Thanet Way, Bluebell Hill or Detling Hill in this period and similarly Kent Highways itself won’t be scheduling non time critical works on these key routes such as refreshing white lines in this time frame. This is a simple measure we can take to be ready for any disruption that may happen. There’s plenty of work for our contractors to do elsewhere in the county and we have our largest road repair programme for many 21 years scheduled for 2019 (more about his in future newsletters).
