Airports Authority of India Press Release Kalaburgi in Karnataka gets air connectivity, Greenfield Airport inaugurated under RCS -UDAN New Delhi, 23rd November, 2019: A Greenfield Airport at Kalaburgi in Karnataka was inaugurated by Shri. B.S. Yediyurappa Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka on 22nd November, 2019 in the august presence of esteemed dignitaries of the State Government. Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola, Secretary, Minister of Civil Aviation and Shri Arvind Singh , Chairman, AAI was also present on the occasion. The first Kalaburgi- Bangalore-Kalaburgi fight also commenced from the Kalaburgi Airport on this occasion State Govt. of Karnataka transferred existing Infrastructure at Kalaburagi Airport along with 742 acres of land free of cost for operationalization, maintenance and further development to Airports Authority of India. An MoUwas signed between Govt. of Kanataka and Airports Authority of India on 23rd August 2019 for Development, Maintenance and Operation of Kalaburagi Airport. The terminal building of the Greenfield Kalaburgi Airport has an area of 2173 sqm. with peak hour handling capacity of 100 passengers. Ministry of Civil Aviation has considered Kalaburagi Airport under RCS-UDAN Scheme of Govt. of India. Under this scheme, Kalaburgi Airport will be connected to Bengaluru, Hindon and Tirupati. Kalaburagi is one of the backward border districts of Kanataka, which requires air connectivity with the State Headquarters and other commercial centers for its development.
