The aim was to examine the changes and dynamic process of the participating athletes at different times. The result of the study indicates that between 2008 and 2012, the initial average of the number of participating athletes in the National Disabled Games is 53.23, and the average growth is 3.93; the respective t values are 6.78 and 2.81, which are both statistically significant (*p<.05). In other words, the average number of participating athletes in the National Disabled Games in 2008 was 53.23, and continued to grow at an average rate of 3.93 persons per year. There was significant growth in the number of participating athletes between 2008 and 2012 in all cities and counties. In addition, there was significant difference in the growth rates among different cities and counties. Keywords: Latent Growth Model (LGM), physical and mental impairments, National Disabled Games INTRODUCTION It has become a global trend to improve the welfare of the physically and mentally challenged. The degree to which a country is capable of providing adequate care and opportunities for its physically and mentally challenged citizens is also an important index in evaluating its overall development.

  • Youth Perceptions of the Olympic Games: Attitudes Towards Action Sports at the YOG and Olympic Games
Youth Perceptions of the Olympic Games: Attitudes Towards Action Sports at the YOG and Olympic Games Associate Professors Belinda Wheaton and Holly Thorpe University of Waikato, New Zealand Final report for The IOC Olympic Studies Centre Advanced Olympic Research Grant Programme 2015/2016 Award June 2016 ABSTRACT The IOC faces a significant challenge, that is, how to stay relevant to contemporary youth amid changing sport participation and consumption patterns and growing competition from mega-events such as the X Games. This project critically examined youth perceptions of the relevance and significance of the Olympic Games, and the Youth Olympic Games. It focused particularly on the attitudes of participants in newer, action sports (i.e., skateboarding, surfing, BMX, snowboarding, parkour, kite-surfing), as well as the cultural processes leading up to and following the short-listing of surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Online surveys, media analysis and interviews provide rich and nuanced insights into the experiences, attitudes, opinions, debates and politics that influence youths’ current and future participation in, and consumption of, the Olympic Games. Ultimately, this project reveals generational differences in attitudes towards action sports inclusion in the Olympic Games, as well as changing perceptions among those working most closely with the IOC to prepare their sports for possible Olympic inclusion. Furthermore, this report highlights the power and potential of action sports inclusion into the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, as well as some of the ongoing and new challenges for such significant changes to both the infrastructure of action sports cultures and industries, and to the transforming landscape of Olympic sport.

Over the years, this popular RENNES sporting event, organised by the Cercle Paul Bert in close collaboration with Rennes City Council, has become the urban SUR ROULETTES sports festival ‘par excellence’. 10/11 April 2010 During one weekend, races, beginners’ classes, street skates, and marathons take place in the city centre, and, in the spirit that has inspired the organisers ever since the beginning, they will make possible the combination of mass activities open to everyone and of elite sporting events. It is thanks to everyone’s support – public & private-sector partners, Rennes City Council, which has given us the help necessary to make this event a success, & volunteers who have been working for months - that this Rennes event has earned its place on the international roller scene. More than ever this year, let us applaud the Organising Committee’s exemplary dynamism and determination. In fact, the determination with which its president, Maryvonne ERMINE, dealt with the necessary reassessment of the event, will doubtless contribute to the success and continuation of this great adventure.
