Deputy Internal Security Minister Probed Malaysiakini.Com March 4, 2007
Deputy internal security minister probed Malaysiakini.com March 4, 2007 Deputy Internal Security Minister Mohd Johari Baharum is being investigated for allegedly accepting more than RM5 million in bribes to free a number of detainees linked to organised crime. This latest 'freedom for sale' scandal comes hot on the heels of graft allegations against the country's top corruption fighter - Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) director- general Zulkipli Mat Noor. The 'freedom for sale' allegation against Johari first surfaced on the Internet - in a page hosted by free website, Freewebs.com. It accused him of being the “most powerful, but corrupted deputy minister.” The anoymous website cited three ‘classic cases’ in which Johari had allegedly abused his power and breached the trust of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is his immediate boss in the Internal Security Ministry. “His abuse of power must be seen to be interfering with police investigation and also jeopardising police efforts to maintain peace as well as law and order in the country,” it said. Three incidences alleged In the first case, Johari was alleged to have ordered the release of a gang leader from Perak in January this year. The gang leader is said to be the younger brother of another deputy minister. Last month, Johari also allegedly ordered the release of a suspect held in connection with illegal gaming and book-keeping in Sabah. The website claimed Johari was paid RM3 million for this. In the third case, it was alleged that another gang leader from Perak had secured his freedom after he “settled with Johari for a sum not less than RM2.5 million.” The deputy minister has denied this. -

Zahid Says Cops Foiled Isis Plot to Kidnap Najib Malaysian Insider March 8, 2016 by Muzliza Mustafa
Zahid says cops foiled Isis plot to kidnap Najib Malaysian Insider March 8, 2016 By Muzliza Mustafa Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said the Isis militant group was planning to kidnap him as well as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein. But the home minister said the police's anti-terrorism unit foiled the attempt, as well as plots to create chaos in Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. "Although there is no proper Daesh (Isis) establishment in the country, those who were here were being influenced and have been receiving orders from the network in Syria. "We detected plans to attack several locations in Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, attempt to rob of firearms from army camps, making of explosions, robbing cash-in-transit vans as well as plot to kidnap the country's leaders for ransom," he said. Zahid said Putrajaya took several measures to counter Isis, including sharing information with Asean counterparts on identifying terrorist suspects, among other forms of cooperation. "Police have also done their part by monitoring and tracking these suspects and forwarded details to the Immigration Department to be blacklisted or blocked from entering the country. "We are also going to implement the Advanced Passengers Screening System (APPS) for early detection of suspected foreign nationals coming into the country," he said. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), he added, was also roped in to monitor the militant group's propaganda on the social media. He said this in a reply to Abdul Manan Ismail (BN-Paya Besar) who asked the Home Ministry to state the success of police in preventing terrorist attacks planned by Isis in the country. -

Riding the Mahathir wave in Kubang Pasu FREE MALAYSIA TODAY March 15, 2018 By Melissa Darlyne Chow ALOR SETAR: Kubang Pasu is set to be the centre of attention this coming polls if PPBM decides to launch a strike against Umno by fielding none other than the constituency’s favourite son, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. While the party’s candidate has yet to be finalised, the PPBM chairman’s name is, unsurprisingly, among those shortlisted. Kubang Pasu PPBM division chief Mohd Hairy Md Saad said this was because the 93- year-old was a former MP of the area and still much loved by the community. “The community here loves him very much. He has brought so much development to the district, turning it into an education hub. Many educational institutes were set up, such as Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (Polimas), the Industrial Training Institute, and teaching institutes, among others. “As a result, Kubang Pasu produced many educators and knowledgeable people,” he told FMT. The birth of these educational institutes also created many job opportunities for those living in Kubang Pasu, he said, adding that this was especially so in the area of Changlun, where UUM was set up. “Various job openings were created, from lecturers to janitors,” Hairy said. He added that sentiment towards Mahathir was still favourable, even after the former prime minister left Umno and formed his own party which is now part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition pact. “It is not just Kubang Pasu folk and PPBM supporters who still love Mahathir. -
