Local, reasoned, controlled sourcing

DRT has built its growth on bio-resources provided by the Landes pine. The sourcing of its raw material is primarily local, measured and carefully controlled to reduce transport requirements and carbon footprint to the absolute minimum.

DRT makes every effort to meet market demands through suppliers as close as possible to its production sites, thereby achieving significant reductions in goods transport and so reducing its carbon footprint.

DRT has moved closer to its markets by setting up operations in different parts of the DRT SPECIALTY CHEMICALS WUXI world, partly as a means of reducing its carbon footprint but also as a way of sharing (China) its corporate vision. To meet demand from Asian markets, in 2006 DRT set up a Chinese subsidiary, DRT Specialty Chemicals Wuxi, to produce the Dermulsene® range of water-based resin dispersions in China and to develop the product range responsibly across China and Southeast Asia. Dermulsene® products are 50% water, and exporting them from France to China would involve transporting close on 5,000 tonnes of water, the equivalent of 250 containers, a year.

DRT has built a modern, responsible facility in China, equipped with features such as fume treatment to neutralise odours. In 2011, the company invested in a new and more environmentally friendly wastewater treatment

A major player in the plant chemistry sector

True to its policy of innovation, DRT is an active promoter of plant-based chemistry that respects natural resources and the environment and a member of bodies such as ACDV.

DRT is firmly convinced of the importance of changing industrial practices for the better and raising awareness among chemicals manufacturers of the need to make their activities more environment friendly. Thus, DRT has become an active member of the Association de la Chimie du Végétal (ACDV), the French bio-based chemistry association. ACDV was set up to bring together key players in the agricultural and chemicals industries around a common goal: working to develop plant chemistry in France and Europe and to promote the development of plant-based chemical intermediates.

ACDV and its members are involved in representing and promoting plant-based chemistry, identifying major issues for manufacturers, establishing business and technical intelligence systems, and strategic planning of future campaigns, pooling their expertise to create a powerful force capable of driving concrete political and industrial initiatives.

ACDV focuses its efforts on plant chemistry firms, the French and European authorities, the media and NGOs, to create an environment in which plant-based chemistry can thrive. For DRT, becoming part of this wider initiative expresses its commitment to taking the ambition that has been its driving force from the outset to a more global level. DRT also translates its ethical values into action by supporting initiatives such as Sustainable Chemistry Day and plant chemistry training sessions.
