IFSC WORLD CUP PUURS 2013: BIG MOVES AND WELL- DESERVED VICTORIES SeptemberIN PUURS 21st was the day of Jain Kim (KOR) and Jakob Schubert (AUT)! In a sweeping competition Korea’s leading female climber and the reigning male Lead world champion from Austria won gold at the IFSC Lead World Cup Puurs 2013. More than 110 athletes from all over the world took part in the only Lead World Cup event in Belgium this year at the Klimax semi-outdoors climbing dome in the city of Puurs. This weekend it was on Jain Kim and Jakob Schubert to show their great late summer shape – what else is new for Korea’s climbing queen in Flanders? Jain Kim and Puurs: A gilded love story By now, Jain Kim knows the podium in Puurs like the back of her hand: this is the fourth time Monday, in a row Korea’s most successful sports climbing export was unbeatable in Belgium. Starting d 23 off with a top in the qualification, Jain Kim did not lose her lead until the end of the September competition, strong Mina Markovic and Momoka Oda always close on her heels. A last top in 2013 the final round finally ensured Jain Kim’s second victory in 2013. Silver went to fledgling Rock Master Mina Markovic, and Bronze to Momoka Oda from Japan. Jakob Schubert back on top The men’s competition offered an open race until the end: With Sachi Amma, Magnus Mitboe, Romain Desranges, Ramón Julian Puigblanqe and Jakob Schubert all neck-and-neck after the semi-final with five tops. In the final round multi-discipline climber Sean McColl secured an initial lead after an impressive one-handed dynamo and a height of 39+ until Jakob Schubert entered the final route as the first of the last three athletes. The Austrian bested his Canadian competitor with a height of 44+, a result neither Sachi Amma (39+) nor Ramón Julian Puigblanqe (30+) could beat – this is the first win of the season for the twenty-two-year-old Tyrolean. Silver and Bronze went to Lead Overall World Cup leader Sachi Amma and Canada’s Sean McColl!
