Biographical Note Born in Erkenez, Hungary 1902, died in am Main 1973; grew up in ; bookseller; member of the left-wing Kommunistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands (KAPD) in 1920; later with Heinrich Brandler and on the right within the Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands (KPD) and expelled in 1929; member of the Kommunistische Partei-Opposition (KPD-O), with its minority faction he joined the Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands (SAPD) in 1932; in 1933 arrested with most of the SAPD leaders; though Jewish, his Hungarian nationality was sufficient for his release; fled to in 1934, formed a SAPD group; emigrated in 1938 to and in 1940 to the USA; in New York active in the German branch of the Workmen Circle; returned to Germany in 1950; member of the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (SPD) from 1951; led the trade union publishing house in Frankfurt am Main.

Content Correspondence both of Joseph Lang and Erna Lang primarily with Angelica Balabanoff 1948-1962 and n.d.; a book and some photographs with inscriptions of Balabanoff for J. and E. Lang 1960 and n.d.; a commemorative pamphlet concerning J. Lang 1973; clippings 1962, 1965; some correspondence by Balabanoff with Paul Frölich n.d., Ernst Tessloff 1950-1951 and others.
