CVS will be providing the flu shots October 18 - End of First Quarter for us and our wonderful nurses from our school October 25 - PTO Meeting @ 8:00 am community will be giving the vaccinations. EXTENDED CARE

We will have Extended Care on Teacher Thursday, September 19th 1:45pm - 6:00pm. Extended Care Parents Please encourage your children NOT to bring in toys or trading cards from home. For grades 3-8, the first 30 minutes of extended care is quiet homework time only. If a student does not have homework, he/she should have a book to read. We encourage the students to use this time to get homework done before going home or attending after-school activities. Parents please encourage your children to follow these guidelines and rules. Thank you!

VISITING AUTHOR

On Monday, September 23, St. Pius X Catholic School will be hosting author and illustrator, Matt Tavares, for the 2nd and 3rd grade students. He will be sharing a presentation about his experiences combining fiction and non-fiction information.

We are offering a number of his books for sale which can be purchased from the Media Center through your FACTS account. These books will be available for purchase through Thursday, September 26th. A list of the books and information about ordering can be found here.

Mr. Tavares will sign all book purchases on Monday, September 23 at the end of the session.

SPXTRAS SPXtras are classes offered by the PTO to enrich the development and learning experience of our students at St. Pius X. Please see the list here for the 2019 Fall SPXtras.

Overview: All SPXtras are for boys and girls. The classes will take place immediately after school unless noted. All instructors have completed and are up to date on their Safe and Sacred requirements. The cost per class, per student, will be deducted from your FACTS Account.

Sign up: Links will be sent out in P&G and posted on PIUW

Start time: 3:20-4:10.

Snack time: Several of the SPXtras offer a snack. If your child has any food allergies or special accommodations are needed, please indicate in the comments section or email Megan Martin. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle and/or snack if not provided per the class description.

Pick up: Please enter through the main doors. Sign your child out before taking them. Parents will be emailed a code to enter in through the main doors.

Beginning Piano/Keyboard Classes to be Offered At St. Pius X School

St. Pius X School and Keyboards Unlimited Piano Studio, a neighborhood piano studio currently serving many SPX students, have teamed up to provide a unique, innovative opportunity for your child. We want to make this opportunity convenient and available to your family, helping you manage your family's time. For approximately a half hour per week, during your child's recess period at St. Pius, s/he can learn to play the piano and enhance musical skills in a high-quality, high-integrity small group setting.

This fun and exciting class is available for 1st thru 5th grades and is an excellent opportunity to develop your child's musical talent, prepare a 4th or 5th grader for middle-school/high school music opportunities, or to just try something new. Did you know that recent studies suggest that playing music may improve learning, memory, logic and general creativity?

The class will be held on Mondays for 14 weeks, beginning October 21st. The total cost is $220, which includes music and supplies, and can be paid in monthly installments ($200 if paid in full). CYO PHYSICAL FORMS To participate in a CYO sport each participant must have an updated physical form on file each year before participating. Students will NOT be allowed to participate in practices or games until an updated form is on file. Forms are available on the CYO website at http://cyoarchindy.org/wp- content/uploads/2018/09/Website-Physical-2015.pdf and completed forms should be returned to the school office or emailed as a PDF to Katie Barbee at [email protected].

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

Breakfast With Santa is December 7th!

This is a call out to all you crafty people! Start making those crafts to sell or planning out your booth space! If you have any questions about renting a booth at this year's event, contact [email protected]

Santa Wants You! Katie Marsh and Sarah Mattingly have done a wonderful job coordinating the Holiday Boutique, but they are ready to fly south of the Pole! Santa needs two volunteers to take over the Boutique portion of this great event that benefits SPX Athletics. It is FUN and a great way to get involved! BOYS BASKETBALL REGISTRATION

Boys Basketball registration is open thru Monday, September 23. The registration fee is $115. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Ed Freije [email protected] (Boys Basketball Coordinator).

SPAGHETTI NIGHT

In celebration of your generosity to St. Pius X, please join the Stewardship Committee, the Parish staff, and the Pastoral Council for a Pasta Dinner at 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 21st. We would like to thank all parishioners and their families who give willingly of their time, talent, and treasure. This is at no charge to you. RSVP your name, number of adults attending, number of children ages 6-12 attending, and number of children under age 6 attending to the Parish office or email your RSVP to [email protected] no later than September 16th.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING

Fourth graders and above are invited to become Altar Servers. This is a great way to help out our St. Pius X parish, learn more about the Mass, and actively participate in the celebration of Mass. The next server training sessions for new servers as well as established servers who would like a refresher course will be offered on September 29, 2019 (Sunday) from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm.

ADULT EDUCATION

St. Pius X Parish Adult Education Team presents our Fall DVD Series:

Catholicism: The Pivotal Players - Bishop Barron continues the journey to unlock the truth behind some of the Catholic Church's most influential people. We learn about St. Augustine and St. Benedict, two incredible saints from the fourth and fifth centuries. Then we immerse ourselves in presentations on other scholars, who helped shape the life of the Church and culture today. This DVD series is 7 weeks. It will be offered twice weekly from September 22 - November 3 on Sunday mornings from 9:15 am - 10:45 am or from September 25 - November 6, Wednesday mornings from 9:15 am - 10:45 am. All sessions will be held in Matthew Mark conference rooms. There is no cost for attendance; however we do require that you register either online at www.orgsonline.com or through the Faith Formation office. An optional workbook is available for $20 and can be ordered through the Faith Formation office by September 6.

James: Pearls for Wise Living - The Letter of James offers wisdom for ordinary Christians in everyday life. It speaks to us who feel torn between the competing demands of our world today and our faith. For anyone who may find themselves struggling to live a truly Christian life, James: Pearls for Wise Living offers a wealth of practical solutions for dealing with and even sanctifying every day circumstances. This DVD series is 10 weeks. It will be offered twice weekly from September 23 - November 25 on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm or from September 26 - December 5, Thursday mornings from 9:00 am - 10:30 am. All sessions will be held in Matthew Mark conference rooms. There is no cost for attendance: however we do require that you register either online at www.orgsonline.com or through the Faith Formation office.
