Torrance’s doctrine of baptism has suffered from misunderstanding and has been widely neglected. This arises from Torrance introducing a new soteriological paradigm, that is claimed by Torrance, to be both new, and at the same time to be a recovery of the work of the early church fathers and Calvin.

Dear Monroe Township School Community, This Messenger issue reflects a time before my arrival but I can attest to the kindness, generosity of time, and willingness of the Monroe community to give of themselves to a better purpose. All this while proceeding through a pandemic. At MTPS it is important to recognize that each and every child brings value to our classroom, and that we bear great responsibility to ensure they feel safe and welcomed (by our staff and our students). We believe that modeling and teaching students how to be kind and respectful to others can make a positive impact in our school communities. We will continue to promote kindness, compassion and respect for others. In light of our current challenges, it is important that all of us remember to bring kindness, patience, and flexibility to our interactions. The challenges brought on by the pandemic and life in general are not easy, but we will support each other. I want to thank all of our staff, our students, and our parents/guardians for applying the virtues of kindness in conversations, communications, and interactions of all kinds.

PHYSICAL INVIOLABILITY AND THE DUEL pUNCH OR STAB: THE RUSSIAN DUELIST’S DILEMMA The Russian duel was a surprisingly and consistently violent affair. I do not imply that Russian duels were more deadly than those in the West (the fatality rate in Russia never approached that in France in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries or in Germany at the end of the nineteenth century).1 I mean rather that conflicts over honor were frequently resolved in unregu lated spontaneous physical confrontations rather than in formal en- counters . Furthermore, those confrontations differed from rencontres in that they involved direct physical contact—hand-to-hand fighting or the use of weapons unrecognized by the dueling ritual, such as walking sticks or whips. The use of standard dueling weapons— swords or pistols—appears to have been optional. In other words, from the introduction of the duel in Russia to its demise, a conflict over honor was as likely (and at times more likely) to result in an im mediate and violent hand-to-hand fight as in a formal duel of honor. This happened so frequently that physical force seems to have been an accepted alternative to the duel. In fact, it would be possible to write (—S A Brief History of Dueling in Russia 97 98 a variant history of dueling in Russia featuring fistfights, slaps in the Everyone present—nobles face, and battering with walking sticks. and commoners, officers and enlisted men, Historians of the Russian women too—had at each other. Eichmann is already under arrest in Israel and will shortly be placed on trial in Israel under the terms of the law for the trial of Nazis and their collaborators. Praise for ‘A great debut novel.’ The Sun ‘Hattie is joined on her terrifying adventures by some fantastic characters, you can’t help but want to be one of them by the end – or maybe you’re brave enough to want to be Hattie herself . .’ Chicklish ‘Hachi is strong, independent, clever and remarkable in every way . I can’t shout loud enough about Hattori Hachi.’ My Favourite Books ‘Jane Prowse has completely nailed this novel. I loved the descriptions, the action, the heart-stopping moments where deceit lurks just around the corner. The story is fabulous, while almost hidden profoundness is scattered in every chapter.’ Flamingnet reviewer, age 12 ‘Hattori Hachi is like the female Jackie Chan, she has all the ninjutsu skills and all the moves! The Revenge of Praying Mantis is one of my all time favourite books! I love the fact that both boys and girls can enjoy it.’ Jessica, age 12 ‘I couldn’t put this book down – it was absolutely brilliant!’ Hugo, age 9 ‘This delightful book is full of ninja action and packed with clever surprises that will hook anyone who reads it!’ Hollymay, age 15 ‘This was the best book I’ve ever read.
