Our 5th grade students have been working on locating points on a map using longitude and latitude. The students used sphereos to hit the ships by October 17 - Spiritwear Day programming them to move along the grid to a certain spot. October 18 - End of First Quarter (44 days) This unique project brought collaboration, teamwork, and October 18 - 20 - Dine and Donate @ Hot Box Pizza in communication to the Castleton classroom. Seeing this project in action was amazing. The October 24 - 1st Quarter Report Cards Issued students worked so well together. They communicated and worked on different October 24 - Parent Lighthouse Committee Meeting @ strategies as a whole group to 6:30 pm at Northside K of C try and sink all of the ships on the grid. Hearing their October 25 - PTO Meeting @ 8:00 am conversations and watching them work together was October 26 - Trunk or Treat @ 6:00 pm impressive. Thank you to Ms. Sitzman and Mr. Esposito for November 2 - First Reconciliation Day of Reflection @ bringing this hands on learning 10:00 am activity to the classroom. November 10 - 14 - Book Fair We would like to give a warm welcome to our new head of maintenance Mr. Chris Wagner. November 13 - Used Uniform Sale in Ross Hall 2:30 pm - He has begun alongside Brett 3:30 pm Fischer this week. FLU SHOT CLINIC

This year, CVS will be providing us with Flu Shots. Some of our fellow St. Pius X Parent nurses/doctors will help to administer these shots. Insurance will be accepted. You can find the insurance form here. Please complete the form and send it in with your child on the day of the clinic. his clinic will be on Tuesday, October 22nd starting at 8:00 AM through Noon. Parents do not have to be present. We cannot take walk-ins, so please use the Sign Up Genius link below. We encourage all students and staff to get vaccinated. We are looking for some friendly faces to help with recess. This is a great way to get to know your kids' friends and watch them interact with their classmates. VETERAN'S DAY MASS

St. Pius X would like to honor all our special veterans. All veterans and their families are invited to a special Veteran's Day Mass on Wednesday, November 6th at 8:15 a.m. There will be a small reception in Ross Hall following Mass. Please e-mail Jan Davis ([email protected]) with questions.

If you have a family member who is a veteran, please send in a picture of them in uniform, so we can honor them during Mass. The picture will be returned after a copy is made. Pictures need to be turned in to Mrs. Davis no later than Wednesday, October 23rd.

BOOK FAIR Attention Book Worms! The SPX Book Fair will be held Sunday-Thursday, November 10th - 14th ! With a host of great quality books and items from Kids' Ink Book Store, there is something for everyone! All proceeds benefit the SPX School library and classrooms. Please stop by the St. Pius Library and shop during "store" hours:

LEADER IN ME

Please join us on Thursday, October 24 for our first Parent Lighthouse Committee Meeting of the year. The Parent Lighthouse Team is for parents that want to learn more or "do a little more" with the Leader In Me process at SPX. We have leadership as well as worker bee opportunities available, so we invite all interested to join us for a drink and some information.

We will be meeting in the lounge (bar) at the Northside Knights of Columbus for a 6:30 PM social and the meeting will begin at 7 PM.

CYO PHYSICAL FORMS

To participate in a CYO sport each participant must have an updated physical form on file each year before participating. Students will NOT be allowed to participate in practices or games until an updated form is on file. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

SPX Athletics invites you to the 2019 Breakfast with Santa and Holiday Boutique on Saturday, December 7th, 8 am-noon. Save the Date may be on the brain, but Christmas will be here before we know it! Save the date for Breakfast with Santa to enjoy a yummy breakfast, visit with Santa, and shop the Holiday Boutique.

Holiday Boutique We are always looking for new vendors for the holiday boutique, so if you or a friend/family member have a craft or product to sell, please pass the event information along. This is also a great opportunity for students to showcase their talent and make some extra , so start building that inventory now! CHILDREN'S MUSEUM HAUNTED HOUSE

The 2nd Annual Sports Spooktacular event at the Children's Museum is October 19 from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm for kids ages 8-14. Sports Spooktacular is a VIP party for kids! The ticket price is $25 for non-members/$20 for members and chaperones tickets are $15. This event includes:

Team Indiana Volleyball club is offering free clinics on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7:30 through Oct. 16!
