Well summer is almost over, although we are still experiencing many hot and humid days. For me it is time for vacation and more enjoyable weather where I can get the car out for more pleasurable events. I hope you will enjoy the fall season with your cars as much as I will.

Thanks go out to Jack Wright and his crew for making the Ice Cream Social at last month’s meeting a big success. It always seems that this event brings out the greatest attendance for a General Membership Meeting. I am still looking for a Program Director and / or ideas for programs at future meetings.

Fun Day tickets are still available and Hopeann will be selling them at our September General Membership Meeting on September 25th. COVER CAR – 1950 FORD CONVERTIBLE

We have owned this Ford for over 15 years. We have enjoyed driving it to many shows and it is a major winner. After receiving its Jr. & Sr. Award with AACA, it won the AACA Senior Grand National Award, a top honor. We are also a member of the Early V-8 Club and traveled to Dearborn, Michigan and received the Dearborn Emeritus Award. Owners: Walt & Jeanette Kramer

ICE CREAM NIGHT – AUGUST MEETING

As always ice cream night a success. Thanks to Jack Wright for picking up the ice cream from Lapp’s in New Holland. This year we went back to the Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. I know some missed the Black Raspberry, but needed a change. Bob & Natalie brought the fixins and everyone enjoyed making their sundae. We missed Joyce as she is recovering from a fall the month before. Thanks to Judi for taking her place and helping with the serving. Thanks to the fellows that stepped up and took care of dipping the ice cream.

The August general meeting was held Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Thorndale Fire Hall in Thorndale, PA. President Russ Swallow called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Officers present were Russ Swallow Jeanie Cassidy, Jack Robinson, Bud Tarr. Secretary’s Report – None Treasurer’s Report – Jack Robinson reported expenses of $120.00, Income of $250.41, Balance-in checkbook - $12,768.66 CD $5,213.65. Activities: Bruce Swayze reported several upcoming shows which will be reported in newsletter. Programs – None News & Views – We still need stories. Ways & Means : Mark Cursey has a selection of clothing and other club related items for sale. Fun Day – Russ reported tickets will be on sale at the September meeting. Web Page – No report. Membership – Dave Summers reported no new members at this time. Refreshments –Everyone enjoyed ice cream night. Christmas Party – No report Sunshine – Joyce Wright and Mary Walker are still recuperating at Freedom Village from a fall. Sell & Swap: To be reported in newsletter. Photos: Hugh Purnell brought some photos of past club activities. Car Show –No report Old Business – None New Business. The club is looking for a volunteer to act as historian and a program director. At the September meeting Joe Toner will present the candidates for officers for 2019. Russ indicated that Anselma Mills, Chester Springs has offered the use of their facilities to the club. 50-50: $29 won by Ernie Jameson who graciously donated the money back to the club. CONSERVATOR DE ELEGANCE AWARD -MCA TOP AWARD

Back in 1973 Ford Motor Co. announced the end of producing the convertible and I knew I had to have one. Took delivery April 1974 and it spent two years in the garage under cover. 1976 I joined the Mustang Club of America and the closest local club, First Penna. located in Coopersburg, Pa. an hour ride every month to the meetings. Richard Matthews, (Matthews Ford, Paoli) owned a 1972 and he would also attend the meetings. 1981 he decided to go thru the process with MCA and Valley Forge Mustang Club becoming a Regional Club. Most of the National shows back then were held in the southern states and I attended as many as possible competing in the 71-73 Convertible class winning gold at most shows. After 10 years I was eligible for the unrestored class where I would bring home gold and later platinum was awarded. It took 20 points to receive my blue medallion. 2006 MCA introduced the Conservator Class and in 2010, I decided to switch to the Conservator class and earn my white medallion.

At the next 10 shows, I received a tag for my plaque and trophy reading conservator instead of gold. It took me 7 years attending 10 National shows, the final one in Dawsonville, Georgia, July 1917, however, you do not receive your award at that show. You must complete your paperwork and attend another National Show. September 1918, Labor Day Weekend, I traveled to the Granite State Mustang Grand National held at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Merrimack, N.H. It was one of the best Nationals I had attended. Location perfect, weather ideal, enjoyed a brewery tour and the Clydesdales. MCA and Granite State did an excellent job. Finally receiving my white grille medallion and my Conservator de Elegance cup made it worth the wait. If you are not a member of MCA, join today. Don’t be afraid to attend the National shows, judging is fair and they are there to help you. There are so many classes, so you are competing with others that may drive daily, drive occasionally, trailer driven, unrestored, modified, etc. The best part is meeting other Mustangers from all over the country and they become very good friends. You can attend and just display your car or just enjoy the area and activities.

I will continue to attend the Nationals when possible to see and enjoy all the friends I have met and to meet new ones. We are fortunate to have the 2019 Grand National close. The National Capital Region Mustang club will be hosting it at the Fredericksburg Expo Center, Fredericksburg, Md. Aug. 30 thru Set. 1st. Put it on your calendar and plan to attend. Natalie Gomez

10th Annual Jenner’s Pond Run We had 34 cars and 48 people on a beautiful day at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Village. This is a joint event of the Chester County Car Club and the Brandywine Region of AACA. The weather was perfect and there was plenty of pizza, hot dogs, drinks, snacks and cookies.
