Wave Gotik Treffen WGT planner This document was created based on the information available at the time of creation. The information primarily comes from both the WGT's organising team and public event notes. Therefore, no guarantee of completeness will be provided. This WGT planner is used for simple and clear planning of personal WGT visit. Due to the time arrangement, it is simply possible to detect overlaps or to look for alternatives. But it is also a helpful tool on the go, as it makes it completely independent of electricity and internet and can be planned at any time. With the help of the Excel table, you can also create your own individual plan. But this should wait until the final game plan version of the WGT has been released ... Changes are guaranteed until then and even the game plan version can still change-even until Friday. The plan is constantly updated up to the WGT-sometimes until hours before the official start! Under each band we tried to write the Genere for the band so that you can classify it quickly. These entries come from last.fm-No guarantee is given that they are correct:-D Even after the WGT, you will find a detailed review of the WGT at http://monkeypress.de! In this ground-breaking book, Derek B. Scott examines the cultural transfer of operetta from the German stage to Britain and the USA and offers a historical and critical survey of these operettas and their music. In the period 1900–1940, over sixty operettas were produced in the West End, and over seventy on Broadway. A study of these stage works is important for the light they shine on a variety of social topics of the period – from modernity and gender relations to new technology and new media – and these are investigated in the individual chapters. This book is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core at doi.org/10.1017/9781108614306. derek b. scott is Professor of Critical Musicology at the University of Leeds.

  • The Commodification of Whitby Goth Weekend and the Loss of a Subculture
View metadata, citation and similarbrought COREpapers to youat core.ac.ukby provided by Leeds Beckett Repository The Strange and Spooky Battle over Bats and Black Dresses: The Commodification of Whitby Goth Weekend and the Loss of a Subculture Professor Karl Spracklen (Leeds Metropolitan University, UK) and Beverley Spracklen (Independent Scholar) Lead Author Contact Details: Professor Karl Spracklen Carnegie Faculty Leeds Metropolitan University Cavendish Hall Headingley Campus Leeds LS6 3QU 44 (0)113 812 3608 [email protected] Abstract From counter culture to subculture to the ubiquity of every black-clad wannabe vampire hanging around the centre of Western cities, Goth has transcended a musical style to become a part of everyday leisure and popular culture. The music’s cultural terrain has been extensively mapped in the first decade of this century. In this paper we examine the phenomenon of the Whitby Goth Weekend, a modern Goth music festival, which has contributed to (and has been altered by) the heritage tourism marketing of Whitby as the holiday resort of Dracula (the place where Bram Stoker imagined the Vampire Count arriving one dark and stormy night). We examine marketing literature and websites that sell Whitby as a spooky town, and suggest that this strategy has driven the success of the Goth festival. We explore the development of the festival and the politics of its ownership, and its increasing visibility as a mainstream tourist destination for those who want to dress up for the weekend. By interviewing Goths from the north of England, we suggest that the mainstreaming of the festival has led to it becoming less attractive to those more established, older Goths who see the subculture’s authenticity as being rooted in the post-punk era, and who believe Goth subculture should be something one lives full-time.

Collin Chua was also very helpful during a period when Tony was on leave; thank you, Collin. Tony Mitchell and Kim Poole read the final draft of the thesis and provided some valuable and timely feedback. Cheers. Ian Collinson, Michelle Phillipov and Diana Springford each recommended readings; Zac Dadic sent some hard to find recordings to me from interstate; Andrew Khedoori offered me a show at 2SER-FM, where I learnt about some of the artists in this study, and where I had the good fortune to interview Dawn McCarthy; and Brendan Smyly and Diana Blom are valued colleagues of mine at University of Western Sydney who have consistently been up for robust discussions of research matters. Many thanks to you all. My friend Stephen Creswell’s amazing record collection has been readily available to me and has proved an invaluable resource. A hearty thanks! • Gothic Substance
Gothic Style(s), Gothic Substance Gothic Manchester Festival Conference Saturday 28th October 2017 No 70 Oxford Street Introduction After the great success of last year’s Gothic North conference, our attention turns this year to the topic of Gothic Style(s). At the start of the twenty first century, the Gothic is ubiquitous. Fiction and film, television and graphic novels have not only made the Gothic’s plots and protagonists their own, but have brought Gothic style(s) even more firmly into the mainstream. Victorian Gothic architecture looms large over modern cities such as Manchester, contemporary Goth fashion and music tirelessly reference the mode, and our streets and bars, clubs and homes have generated new Gothic styles of their own. But is there substance to the Gothic’s many styles? Does the Gothic continue to reveal the great unspoken truths of our world? Did it ever? Is the Gothic anything more than a commercial product that may be sold, as a recognisable style, to a new generation of consumers? Was it ever thus? What cultural functions do Gothic styles serve? And how have these evolved from the Enlightenment to the neoliberal present? This year’s conference will address such questions, offering a cornucopia of perspectives on the theme. We have papers that draw on political, theological and sociological theory, panels as diverse as Gothic Gaming and Gothic Subcultures and participants who range from undergraduate students to seasoned academics, writers and performers. So, welcome to Gothic Styles, the fifth annual conference of the Gothic Manchester Festival. Again, we think, a wonderfully Gothic time will be had by all.

  • Czas Na Ambient Festival!
W Gorlicach wystąpili między innymi: Manuel Goetsching, Harald Grosskopff, Hans Joachim Roedelius, Christian Fennesz, Geir Jensen /Biosphere/, Richard Pinhas, Robin Guthrie, Pieter Nooten, Kouhei Matsunaga, Andres Jankowski, Eivind Aarset, Tadeusz Sudnik, Józef Skrzek, Alex Paterson /The Orb/ oraz wielu innych muzyków z niemalże całej Europy. Przez wiele lat koncerty festiwalowe prowadził red. Jerzy Kordowicz. Dyrektorem artystycznym festiwalu jest Tadeusz Łuczejko, laureat konkursu na najlepsze nagranie muzyki elektronicznej, zorganizowanego właśnie przez J. Kordowicza na antenie „Trójki”. Tradycyjnie uruchomiona zostanie giełda płyt /CD i Vinyle/, pokaz audiofilskiego sprzętu grającego. Na tegorocznym festiwalu wystąpią: 12.07 (piątek) – START GODZ.
