Trade from Assyrian Aššur to Anatolian Kaneš in the 19Th Century B.C.E
Journal of Management and Marketing Research Trade from Assyrian Aššur to Anatolian Kaneš in the 19th Century B.C.E. M. Wayne Alexander Minnesota State University Moorhead William Violet Minnesota State University Moorhead ABSTRACT Evidence of trade in the Ancient Near East between Aššur in Assyria, now northern Iraq, and Kaneš in Anatolia, now central Turkey, comes from Cuneiform writing on over 23,000 clay tiles unearthed at Kaneš. The tiles tell of 19 th century B.C.E. Assyrian traders who established a trading colony at Kaneš. Merchants in Aššur imported tin and textiles from the east and south, packed them into bags, and loaded the bags on donkeys. Transporters led caravans of 10 to 50 donkeys some 1200 kilometers over rough, narrow roads to Kaneš. After the proper taxes were paid traders sold the tin, textiles, and donkeys in the market for silver which they sent back to Aššur to start the process anew. To facilitate buying and selling the merchants drew up contracts and wrote letters concerning purchases, sales, and market conditions. The trade proved quite profitable but ended with the violent destruction of Kaneš. Department of Biology, Suleyman ABSTRACT Demirel University, Isparta, The present study was carried out to detect the levels of heavy metals in water, sediment and Turkey tissues of tench (Tinca tinca) in Kovada Lake, Turkey. Water, sediment and fish samples were collected from September 2012 to February 2013 at different three sites. DORM 3, DOLT 4 and HISS 1 reference material showed good accuracy. The results of this survey were integrated into an updated and annotated list of oligochaetes and other aquatic annelids occurring in the country, summarized from historical and recent publications. Currently, the freshwater annelid fauna of Turkey includes 150 species of oligochaetes (1 Crassiclitellata, 21 Enchytraeidae, 1 Propappidae, 1 Haplotaxidae, 4 Lumbriculidae, 56 Naidinae, 64 Tubificinae, 2 Lumbricidae), 1 species of Branchiobdellida, and 6 species of Aphanoneura (1 Potamodrilidae and 5 Aeolosomatidae). Although studies focusing on the aquatic oligochaete fauna of Turkey have increased over the past 15–20 years, species diversity still remains unclear. VAN W. SCHEEPERS (UNISA) ABSTRACT The socio-political scene and economic structure of the Neo- Assyrian Empire influenced the Ancient Near East in many ways. An overview of the interpretation of Neo-Assyrian records 1 in the light of archaeological evidence, mainly from seventh century Ekron (Tell Miqne), may contribute to understand why this city seemed to flourish during the seventh century B.C.E.. The article is an attempt to demonstrate that archaeological data dating from the 7 th century B.C.E. in Israel/Palestine opens new perspectives when interpreted keeping the socio-political and economic structures of the Neo Assyrian Empire in mind. A INTRODUCTION Historians have been fascinated with material remains and written records from Mesopotamian civilizations since at least the middle nineteenth century. Systematic organized excavations from 1850 onwards at Khorsabad, Nineveh, Calah and Dur-Sharrukin, to name but a few, began to give brilliant results. 2 The early pioneers who excavated these cities couldn’t hide their conviction that the material remains they uncovered from these ruins were not only awe- inspiring but also crucial to understanding the past. 3 With the advances made in the decipherment of the Akkadian cuneiform script, documentary remains from royal libraries could be translated and understood. Suddenly a world previously only known through the Bible and classic sources was illuminated by texts, art and architecture. Turkey, which is found in the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, contains oro-forests and subalpine pasture areas. Taurus Mountains extending in the southern part of Mediterranean geographical region abruptly rise from the Mediterranean coast and climb up to 3500 m of elevation. Karstic topographic forms notably karstic depressions and plateau surfaces are common between the elevation of 1800 and 2200 m in Taurus Mountains. The south facing slopes of Taurus Mountains have been deeply dissected by the rivers flowing into Mediterranean Sea. Oro-mediterranean climate which is characterized with cool and seldom orographic rainfall summers and snowy and cold winters prevaisl. The southern high slopes of the Taurus Mountains get humid air mass coming from Mediterranean Sea leading fog and rainfall during summers and this situation creates humid conditions which is favourable for the growth of productive forest and herbaceous vegetation. Most of the Taurus Mountains are mainly composed of limestone belonging to Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Eocene periods. -

Türkiye içsularında yapılmış olan zooplankton araştırmaları bir araya getirilerek bir kontrol listesi hazırlanmıştır. 1940 yılında başlatılan ve günümüze kadar yapılan araştırmalar sonucunda rotiferlerden 229, kladoserlerden 92, kopepodlardan ise 106 olmak üzere toplam 427 takson listelenmiştir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Rotifera, Cladocera, Copepoda, Zooplankton, İçsular, Türkiye, Kontrol listesi Abstract: A checklist is presented, based on compilation of previous zooplankton studies carried out at Turkish inland waters. As a result of studies conducted since 1940 to date, 229 rotiferans, 92 cladocerans and 106 copepods totalling 427 taxa is listed.
