Paul L. Bowman, Jr., 54 Monday, January 3, 2005 Paul L. Bowman, Jr., 54, Peru, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne. He was born in Peru on May 31, 1950 to Paul L., Sr. and Grace L. (Sonafrank) Bowman. Bowman was a champion pool player, who won the Michigan State 9-Ball championship, as well as many others. He belonged to a team called the 'Brickyard 4,' and was featured on the cover of Michigan Pool magazine. Bowman had numerous articles written about him and was one of the big name players featured at several tournaments. He also was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He is survived by his parents; nieces and nephews, Devon Bowman, Linette Bowen Carver, Misty Bowen, Crystal Bowman Aikman, Holly Bowman Blair, Dustina Bowman Miller, Zachary Bowman; and step-niece Holly Carver; three brothers, Richard Carl Bowman and wife Kay, Peru, Thomas William Bowman, Kokomo, Curtis Dean Bowman and wife Kathy, Peru; and one sister, Julene Carol Bowman Bowen, Peru; and a cousin, Monty, who was as close as a brother. Funeral services will be at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marvin Swartz officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peru Church of the Brethren for the tsunami victims. Shirley M. Trent, 59 Monday, January 3, 2005 Shirley M. Trent, 59, Converse, passed away at 11:51 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born on May 18, 1945 in Seattle to Kenneth A. and Iva (Cross) James. Trent was a Peru High School graduate and married Rolla G. Trent in Peru on July 23, 1988. She worked as an assistant manager at Papa John's in Peru, as well as a motor route carrier for the Peru Tribune for many years. Trent attended the First Assembly of God, Peru and the Amboy Friends Church. She was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and collected dolls. Trent is survived by her husband; mother; one son, Bradley Fleming, Peru; four step-daughters, Janis Cornett and husband Kelvin, Julia Rogers and husband Scott, Emilie Trent, Lori Davis and husband Ryan, Amboy; one brother, Kenneth James and wife Arlene, Wenatchee, Wash.; one sister, Arlene Breeden and husband Mike, Monmouth, Ore.; three step-grandchildren, Bryan Zirkle, Robyn Cornett, and Victoria Davis. She was preceded in death by her father; and one sister, Alice Marie Rarick. Funeral services will be conducted at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Reverends John Thomas and Richard Martens officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Diane Stuber Smith Watson, 37 Monday, January 3, 2005 Diane Stuber Smith Watson, 37, Peru, passed away following an extended illness at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2004 at the Howard Regional Health facility, Kokomo. She was born in Portland on November 8, 1967 to Billy C. Stuber and Sue (Melling) Stuber Bennett. Stuber attended Maconaquah High School and was a homemaker. She is survived by her parents; step-father, Ron Bennett, Kewanna; two sons, Brandon Stuber, Muncie, and Gregory Smith, Peru; one daughter, Samantha Smith, Peru; two grandmothers, Lillian Melling Covert, Amboy, and Violet Stuber, Bunker Hill; four brothers, William Stuber and wife Amy, West Lafayette, Wesley Stuber, Allen Stuber and wife Kelly, and Todd Stuber and wife Angie, each of Peru; one sister, Victoria Smith and husband Mike, Muncie; one step-sister, Jennifer Davis and husband, Joe, Logansport. Funeral services will be conducted at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with Ray Maggard officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. Mary L. Sheets, 71 Monday, January 3, 2005 Mary L. Sheets, 71, Peru, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at 5 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at the Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Peru. She was born on March 27, 1933 in South Shore, Ky. to William and Mary (Blevins) Cooper. Sheets was a homemaker who married Clifford I. Sheets on September 17, 1949. She is survived by four daughters, Betty Williams and husband Daryl, Peru, Dianna Sheets, Peru, Mary Louise Woods and husband Melvin, Georgia, and Milissa Sheets, Ohio; five sons, Ralph Sheets, Danny Sheets, Rick Sheets and wife Lisa, Jeff Sheets and wife Debbie, and Clifford Sheets, Jr. and wife Jami, each of Peru; one brother, Fred Cooper and wife Evelyn, Anderson; one sister, Betty Napier, Waverly, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; 33 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Sheets was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son; and eight brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at Chapel of Praise Church, Peru, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. with Pastor David Ross officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. Arrangements are being handled by Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru. Shirley M. Funeral arrangements are pending at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Gary L. Howe, 66 Tuesday, January 4, 2005 Gary L. Howe, 66, Macy, passed away at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Peru. He was born on Feb. 5, 1938 in Red Bluff, Calif. to Harold L. and Lucille Foley Howe. Howe worked as an inspector for 30 years at LaSalle Steel, Hammond. He was also a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, the Moose in Rochester and the Literary Aid Society, Peru. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa L. Colgrove, Hot Springs, Ark.; a brother, Phillip Howe Duranham, Bofkona, Calif.; seven sisters, Carol Howe, Cecile Allen and husband Jim, and Cheryl Miller and husband Fred, all of Red Bluff, Calif., Donna Skinner and husband Walton, Roseville, Calif., Deanna Roberts, Boise, Iowa, Judy Howe, Modesto, Calif., and Wanda Stout and husband Perry, Corning, Calif.; one grandson, Jacob Smucz; a friend, Elizabeth Rohn, and her children, Robert Frye, Karen Winfrey and Kelli Smith; and her grandchildren, Tom Frye, Cressie and Chad Deskins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ron Howe; and two sisters, Audrey and Arlene Howe. The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, Peru, with the Rev. Francis I. Kilcline III officiating. Burial will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Peru. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru. A prayer service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Paul L.
