Altoetting, Einsiedeln and Mariazell Shrines of Europe 2020 Altoett ing, Einsiedeln and Mariazell ... the German-speaking „Shrines of Europe“ as well as Lourdes, Fátima, Czestochowa and Loreto 2 INTRODUCTION Shrines of Europe About Shrines of Europe The „Shrines of Europe“ working group was founded in 1996 to connect Europe‘s most important Marian places of pilgrimage: Altoetting, Czestochowa, Lourdes, Loreto, Fátima, Mariazell and Einsiedeln. The working group is funded by the respective city administrations, which maintain an intensive cooperation (www.shrines-of-europe.com). The latest European Popes, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, were very devoted to the Virgin Mary. By visiting all Shrines of Europe they emphasised their great importance. As a key partner of „Shrines of Europe“, the German group tour operator Bayerisches Pilgerbuero will take you to these places of grace. Therefore, we composed several itineraries for you which will allow a relaxed visit to the Marian shrines. Whether the German-speaking Marian pilgrimage places Altoetting, Einsiedeln or Mariazell or the foreign-language pilgrimage places: We offer you a completely organized trip from beginning to end. With us you have the unique opportunity to reach Lourdes directly and without changing flights with charter flights from Germany and Austria. We are pleased to bring these Marian shrines closer to you. Italy‘s greatest Marian shrine ... is the most important Marian shrine in Portugal and one of the most important in the world Lourdes ... the world-famous Marian pilgrimage site in France, situated at the foot of the Pyrenees 4 PILGRIMAGES Our proposed programme for Einsiedeln, Altoetting and Mariazell Switzerland, Germany, Austria / proposed programme, 6 days This itinerary connects Einsiedeln in the heart of Switzerland with the heart of Bavaria – the important Marian pilgrimage site of Altoetting – as well as Maria- zell in Austria with its magnificent basilica. What these places all have in com- mon is that they have been giving comfort and strength to people for centuries. Day 1: Arrival.     Brother Norbert Zwyssig October 2nd is the anniversary of the death of Brother Norbert Zwyssig. Joseph Zwyssig was born in Gersau, Canton Schwyz, Switzerland, on June 25, 1895. After two years of primary school under the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Joseph went to work at the age of 13 in a silk fac- tory in his home-town. A year later, the attraction of monastic life began to draw him. Too young to apply for admittance as a monk, he went to Einsiedeln abbey at age 14 to work until he should be old enough to enter. There, while working in the abbey kitchen, he became acquainted with Brother Meinrad Eugster, a diabetic monk who came regularly to receive his dietary meals in the kitchen. Brother Meinrad is now being proposed for canonization. Reaching his mid-teens, and impressed by the Bene- dictine life at Einsiedeln, Joseph Zwyssig asked to be admitted as a candidate. The superiors suggested that he consider joining the community at Subiaco. Three men from Gersau, Switzerland, had already come to Subiaco via Einsiedeln; namely: Brother Gabriel Riegert, Father John Nigg, and Brother Andrew Zwyssig, the uncle of Joseph Zwyssig. At the age of 16, Joseph decided to join them. He came to the United States, arriving at Subiaco on November 11, 1911, or "eleven-eleven-eleven" as he liked to say it. Still too young to take religious vows, Joseph spent three years as a candidate and one year as a novice. He was still underage for profession and it was necessary for him to obtain a dispensation in order to make his vows.

My analysis of regional inequality rests on a heuristic model featuring an initial growth impulse in one or several core regions and subsequent diffusion. As a consequence of the existence of multiple core regions Swiss regional inequality has been comparatively low at higher geographical levels. Spatial diffusion of economic growth has occurred across different parts of the country and within different labor market regions at the same time. This resulted in a bell- shape evolution of regional inequality at the micro regional level and convergence at higher geographical levels. In early and in late stages of the development process, productivity differentials were the main drivers of inequality, whereas economic structure was determinant between 1888 and 1941.
