PURINE RESTRICTED DIET (For Patients With )

1. Reduce intake of and . Limit to 4-6 oz. daily.

2. Avoid sardines, mackerel, anchovies, shrimp, , , brain, sweetbread (thymus gland), , broth, and dried .

3. Limit mushroom, , spinach, asparagus, , , and whole .

5. Avoid alcohol.

6. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of daily (2-3 qts) to promote excretion of .

7. Maintain ideal body weight. If overweight, a gradual weight reduction of 1-2 lbs a week is suggested. Limit high in fat and to aid in weight control .

Note: Too much purine can increase the uric acid level in the blood. Patients suffering from Gout should limit their intake of high purine foods.
