IYMAs OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

Irish Youth Music Awards NATIONAL DAY AVIVA STADIUM Sat April 16 2016 IYMAs National Day

Hello and welcome to the ninth Irish Youth Music Awards National Day. It’s been a brilliant year with lots of regional events throughout the coun- try and lots of new clubs and projects getting involved in the IYMAs programme. It’s been a pleasure to travel up and down the country and see the brilliant talent and communi- ties of young people working together to create their own music scenes within their youth clubs and projects.

Today is about them and showcasing what they do and most importantly for those involved to have fun meet new friends and create new connec- tions with other young people doing the same things in their communities. We see the IYMAs as a stepping stone for those involved to learn new skills and to further their journey into em- ployment and education opportunities within the creative and music industry that exists within and overseas. Thank you so much for coming and special thanks to all our sponsors, supporters, youth leaders, clubs, projects and most importantly all the young people involved, have a great day. Barry Lennon, Director Irish Youth Music Awards

Youth Work Ireland would like to welcome you all to ninth National Day for the IYMAs which marks the launch of Youth Work Ireland Week 2016. Our organisation’s theme for this year is Mental Well Being. As this is our flagship programme we want to explore supporting young people, look at employment opportunities within the creative industries while working together as a team. We are excited to have so many new clubs and projects involved this year and we would like to thank all the participating regions, sponsors and supporters who have helped nurture and grow the IYMAs programme throughout the year.

Our Venue today.... The Aviva Stadium is a world class sports stadium with a capacity for 51,700 spectators (all seated). It is built on the site of the former Lans- downe Road stadium, which was demolished in 2007, and replacing it as home to its chief tenants: the Irish Rugby Union Team and the football team. The stadium, located adjacent to Lansdowne Road railway station, was opened in May 2010. The stadium is Ireland's first, and only, UEFA Elite Stadium and in 2011, it hosted the Europa League Final. It also hosted the inaugu- ral Nations Cup, as well as the regular home fixtures of the national rugby team, national football team and some home fixtures for Leinster Rugby from August 2010 onwards.

3 IYMAs 2016... what a year!

This year marks the ninth year of the Irish Youth Music Awards and with our ten-year anniversary next year, we are very excited to welcome young people from over fifteen youth services across the island of Ireland. We have young people participating from Youth Work Ireland Member Youth Services, CDYSB (City of Youth Services Board, Crosscare and our strategic partners in Northern Ireland YANI (Youth Action Northern Ireland).

The IYMAs involves over 340 youth clubs and over 150 projects in communities all over Ireland. The local youth club, or service, is at the heart of the community where people come together to be part of something important in their community. To date over 85,000 young people have taken part in and benefited from the IYMAs and each year we hope to grow this number and support our future cultural entrepreneurs.

It’s been a very busy year since last year’s National Day with lots of news.... the two IYMAs performers Jake Mc Ardle (2015 IYMAs Recipient act for team Louth) and Laura Duff (2015 Song writing winner for team Limerick) – pictured above had the opportunity to perform for the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins sharing the bill with Dublin act Little Green Cars. This marked the launch of the IYMAs featuring team Louth and songwriter Laura Duff. This was released nationally through HMV Ireland and also received a worldwide digital release through I-Tunes, Spotify and several other digital providers.

The IYMAs is now officially a challenge partner of Gaisce which means young people participating in the IYMAs programme can use their involvement to count towards their Gaisce award.

We are excited to have Ireland’s leading contemporary music college, BIMM Dublin involved in the national event again as our educational partners. This year’s Educational Hub has increased to two rooms so check the schedule for times and don’t forget to sign up to the workshop you want to attend as places are limited. We will be providing workshops and a support panel to young people who are looking to further their careers in the creative and musical industries.

We would like to thank all our partners and supporters who have made this year very special. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs, Irish Youth Foundation, IMRO, Youth Action Northern Ireland, BIMM Dublin, Music Maker, Gaisce and all the young people, youth workers, clubs and projects across Ireland who participated this year. We can’t wait to work with you all again next year.

So go have fun and have a great day and remember to tweet, post, share and Facebook the events from today #iymas IYMAs Team
