BONO’SPAL CELEBRATES ACCOLADE , was in celebratory mood this week. The former singer (inset) was thrilled to be presented with an award from the IMRO alongside his musical partner Maurice Seezer. They received the accolade in recognition of the ongoing sue* cess of their film compositions in the US. The pair have written for acclaimed movies such as Romeo & Juliet and ’s biopic Get Rich or Die Trying. And they were clearly keen to mark the occasion after Sfefifc receiving the H award from IMRO head- f*“ quarters. \ The Diary can reveal how Gavin and Maurice booked out an entire section of Michelin-starred eatery L’Ecrivain on Monday night as they celebrated with pals. Among them was Oscar-winning director and wife Fran as well as American Paul Williams, who penned The Carpenter’s hit, We’ve Only Just Begun. Earlier in the day, they were all at a seminar exploring music in film and TV at IMRO’s offices on Pembroke Row, which was where Friday got his award. ENDA REILLY Amhrain Nua i nCaeilge New Songs in Irish EndaDeRoad Records EDRD 004, 14 Tracks, 41 Minutes www.endareilly.com When I opened Enda Reilly's new CD, for a moment or two I was magically transported back to my Pentangle days of the sixties (that's the nineteen sixties, by the way - just in case any of my friends cheekily check which century I mean, the dossers). It's and the and the instruments, you see. So, that Pentangle observation is by way of giving a compliment, because as the tracks kept coming up, I saw that here's a talent, no doubt about it. That it is also so evocative and reminiscent is for this listener a huge extra. Also, while I'm no luddite and shun face-booking, tweeting and blogging, I do appreciate the efforts performers make on-line to provide us with interesting information on who, what, were, etc., in their website presentations. Enda is quite avant-garde in all this, and in so far as that expression relates to being musically innovative and progressive, that, too, is our Enda. Very contemporary, very modern and very easy on the ear, musically, of course, but also in the moods and thoughts that come through in a dozen and more songs that appeal on many levels. Enda writes songs in Irish and English, and he and his co-writer, Christine Deady, were the winners of the IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition in 2012 with their song, Follow the Water. He's no stranger to TV and radio and plays with The Lazy Band and The Gospel Project and he's a member of the Urchin Collective. His website is a gem of high production values and worth viewing for that alone. It is so chock-full of inviting things to click on one is helplessly drawn to listen and to even see the songs being performed by Enda. Of course, because the songs on Amhrain Nua i nGaeilge - New Songs in Irish are as it says on the tin, in Irish, l wish I were writing this as Gaeilge, just to share my pleasure at the 's enjoyment in passing on creative thoughts and sounds in songs like Biodh Ailleacht Ann / Let there be Beauty, Mol an Aimsir (agus Tiocfaidh Si) / Praise the weather, and Ceol As An Dorchadas, where Enda uses Irish and English words about receiving music out of the darkness and imibnn stro is strus - stressand strain are gone! It's like that with this CD, too. Aidan O'Hara -7- Sunday Independent* Circulation: 229382 Sunday, 20 July 2014 Area of Clip: 13700mm² Page: 31 Page 1 of 1

Musicmaker Mark havingbusy summer WORKINGON‘PARANORMAL CITYALBUM MYLES BUCHANAN SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Roundwood musician Mark Ryan has composed, recorded, produced and arranged three EPs all by himself with just the aid of his trusty guitar and a laptop in his bedroom. The fourth year Avondale Community College student is now putting together the finishing touches to his debut album. Mark is very much a one-man show, as he also produces the art work for his singles and EP covers and shoots his own videos. He goes by the name of ‘Paranormal City’ inspired by someone telling him his music reminded them of ‘Owl City’, an American project created in 2007 Mark explained, ‘at the time of choosing a name, I was working on a Halloween project, so a paranormal theme inspired me. It’s also a twist on one of my favourite Guns n Roses song, ‘Paradise City’.’ He has a large following in social media as his fanbase continues to grow every day. He has gained over 34,000 YouTube views over the past six months. ‘I write all my own material and do covers acoustically as well. I plan to make physical copies of my CD to mass release soon but of course I also want them to be available on iTunes or Songiest. I’m joining IMRO very soon when I go into work on some tracks once I save up enough money from busking and work. Then I plan to get some professional studio time.’ So far Mark has released a Dance-Beat style EP called ‘One World Pioneers’ in September 2013 including the lead single ‘So Sweet.’ He followed that up with the Holiday EP featuring the carol Silent Night on ‘Flake by Flake.’ His last release was the acousticelectro pop EP ’Chasing Cars.’ He is also collaborating with other artists from all over the world, from Philadelphia to Florida. Only recently he collaborated Philadelphia DJ, Jasmine Woww, the Fleadh and finished in first with Wicklow singer-songwriter who makes horror/dance/film place.
